    That 129 in c7 was key for me also. I'll say that watching some of these videos and applying techniques for hidden triples and such - I went from not doing the NYT hard at all to 15-20 minutes consistently. Thanks, Rangsk!

    Good one! Started out looking easy. Then it got a bit tricky. I was lucky I saw the 356 in box 9 as I remembered about that from some of your other videos. Thanks!

    Oh my. I found the 1,2,9 triple in c7, but I sadly entered 5,9 in r1c7. I stared at this puzzle for an hour before coming here. I did a virtual faceplant when I saw the 5 go into r1c7 at 14:07 in your solve. Like yours, mine immediately collapsed after I fixed that error.
    I did see and mark an NYT Trick in r4, based on the givens in Box 5. That immediately yield the 2 at r4c1 and the 9 at r2c9 as well the as 3,4,6 triple in Box5 that immediately yielded the 4 and the 3,6 pair on r4,. Similarly, the 5,7 pair in Box 5 immediately collapsed. I was going great guns until my error with the centermarks of r1c7 (I found the 1,2,9 triple and used that to find the 3,5,6 that I then borked).
    This was a fun solve even though I messed it up. I'm really glad your solution revealed my error.

    I love that trick with the unmarked squares in block 7. Bingo, -- a naked 8. I'll try and remember that. :)

    Got stuck where you did, found the 129 same way you did. Kinda tricky today.

    It took me an embarrassingly long time to spot that c7 triple but still an 8:47 finish for me today

    Finally spotted the 129 in column 7..... but it took me WAY longer than Mr Rangsk to find it!

    Similarly spotted the 129 triple way into the solve but at least I got there in 21:13

    Hello, I’m very much a beginner and I stumbled across your video when I got stuck on this puzzle. I’m wondering if anyone could explain why r7c1c5 is considered a pair if it looks like 1 is also a candidate in r7c3c7c9? I’m sorry if this is obvious, I’m trying to learn, and plan on checking out your other videos. Thanks for making them!

      In this case 1 and 3 are the only two possible numbers that can go into r7c1c5 (i.e a pair). That is, there are exactly two candidates in exactly two cells in the row, which means you can eliminate 1 and 3 as candidates from all other cells in the row. If you want to prove it yourself, just try marking a 1 or 3 in any of r7c3c7c9 and you'll break the puzzle.

    I've been trying to find a way to use the Phistomefel Ring in the endgame. So far it has proven fruitless. Do you think NYT would ever use that?

    • @Rangsk
      @Rangsk  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not intentionally, no. Using SET in the wild is very hit-or-miss (mostly miss).

    • @SqueakSqueakleton
      @SqueakSqueakleton 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Rangsk I have realized the misses. I did successfully use it on a puzzle in the CtC book vol 2 that was supposed to use x wings (which I didn't know)

    • @Rangsk
      @Rangsk  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SqueakSqueakleton Fish can always been seen using SET and is sometimes easier to see that way, especially if the puzzle has a lot of fish in it, so that makes sense.
