Was legit thinking the same. Would raise my kid with the TKD fundamentals, then enhance his skills with the MT aggression later in life. (So maybe TKD age 7-13. And MT 14-19. Then sprinkle in some BJJ for a solid defense.)

As an amateur kick boxer and boxer, I've had so many taekwondo black belts come into the muay thai gym I train at for sparring, and they get absolutely wrecked by the entire gym. The lack of actual punching ability, the spinning kicks which are easy to dodge or catch, and the sheer fact that their stance allows their lead leg to get absolutely wrekt are all severe weak points which can be easily exploited by someone who has trained muay thai seriously for six months. If you're serious about fighting, go to a muay thai gym.

As someone who does Taekwondo and Muay Thai I confirm i know all the kicks of the world. Taekwondo is based on karate and it has many savate kicks also. I've done Taekwondo and i used my moves and the Muay Thais guys im sparring with were flabbergasted 😭. I removed the useless kicks and added muay thai for an special twist, I had an reach advantaged, this is proof that learning mixed martial arts is effective not only 1
I can't even explain how much I relate, I'm a second dan in Taekwondo and people always sleep on it until they have fought it, although Muy Thai definitely brought my fighting together, before I could combine the two I was pretty much useless

Muay Thai trainers and Taekwondo trainers both go through immense pain to be able to do what they do. Muay Thai trainers have to literally make their bones as hard as possible to max damage, usually by doing some form of "iron fist" training. Taekwondo trainers gotta go through immense amount of stretching and falling to be able to kick as high as possible. Both are excellent methods of fighting
I think the best thing we can do to compare tkd and muay thai is creating a full contact tkd or olympic style muay thai, I'm saying this bc most of the people always say tkd is bad based in olympic ruleset while muay thai is full contact fight, literally two different worlds. Maybe if full contact tkd existed we can compare better (i think closest thing to full contact tkd is Kyokushin, savate or sanda)

In ITF taekwondo its difficult to know whether ur opponent is skillfull as u or not but, in muay thai u can deal with any fighter in the art because of there is no incridable skills rather it focuses on the power. To conclude ITF= Skill+Power.
I’ve known both and if people needed to use taekwondo, it would be on the self-defense side. People need to use Muay Thai, it would be more to the “You Finna Die Baby” side.

I have trained muay thai for almost 4 months and i can say, its a super effective martial art, i have gotten pretty good too, i also practice boxing and kyokushin for over 4 years, i have also gotten pretty good, i will say muay thai is superior, taekwondo send you to the floor, muay thai sends you to the ER.

There's always a chance brother, get a boxing bag and start working on the basic fundamentals, gyms are expensive and a big commitment, and i would suggest starting with muay thai, im a little biased but i feel that would be the easiest to learn through video tutorial. Start your journey my friend you wont regret it.
The round kicks in teakwondo seems like you have more control over them vs Muay thai rounds hence when you shadow box with the round kick in Muay thai the complete turn around of the body during the round kick its a full committ move if you miss a huge opening insues. Both are poweful. The control in teakwondo favors my boxing sesibilitties especialy with the round kicks more control more opportunities for feints fakes etc just like i do with my hands with american boxing. I use both though just when i through a thai round kick i make sure its landing no time for turning around due to a wiff if im not sure if it will land im going teakondo round due to the fact its easier to cancel at any point leading up to the snap of the shin.
