Building a small Boeing 787 Dreamliner (Revell 1/144 kit)

  • Because this beautiful Boeing 787 Dreamliner was for a long time in my stash, I built it. I can't say that I'm a big fan of commercial airplanes, but this Revell Boeing 787 1/144 scale plastic model catches my eye with its iconic history and decals. It assembles the real Boeing 787 scale model at the Boeing Everett Factory near Seatle, USA. It was planned for his first flight in May 2008, but the project suffers major delays, and only after three years starts his flights in Nippon Airways.
    The build for this Dreamliner 1/144 plastic kit was like a project focus because I had started a new 1/24 car and the plane needs special care and attention. All these Revell 787 parts blend relatively well, with only minor adjustments on top of the fuselage with Tamiya putty white and a fine wet sanding sheet. For engine metal parts, I choose Alclad black gloss primer to get a stainless steel effect, and for the fuselage Mr hobby Cold White was a perfect choice. Overall, I can say that the Revell 04261 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner model kit is fun and easy to build, and you must include it in your future builds.

    Great build, you are good in the painting job!
    A question, what did you used to fill in the clear parts while painting, is it plastic silicone?

    • @SmallScaleFun

      Hello
      Thank you!
      I'm not so good at painting, the Alclad paints and Mr. Hobby paints are so "forgiving" paints :))
      To mask the clear parts I use textile glue, but I don't like it because it's drying quickly (1-2 minutes) and leave some type of markings on the primer.
      Now I'm using Liquid Mask from Mig, which is more liquid than textile glue, drying time is 20 minutes and you can clean it more easily from your brush.

      @@kotygoroschkostudios8326 you are right, you have to exercise each week to improve your skills and also paints are very important. I start with Tamiya acrylics paints and I was disappointed (they don't have good coverage, maybe I didn't thin them right I don't know) I change to lacquer paints and they are great. Now I'm working on a Castrol Toyota Supra but I have other commercial planes for my further projects so stay toon :))

      @@SmallScaleFunthink it's great!!! I ask you a couple of questions, why did you leave the "teeth" of the metallic colored motor? Also why did you paint the engines yellowish white? without a doubt, those little errors gave a great aesthetic improvement to the plane !!! What inspired you to do that?

    • @SmallScaleFun

      @@argmodel9660 The engine is painted in Cool White from Mr. Hobby (the cool white is accentuated by gray primer), maybe my desk light changes the color for more yellow when I was filming the build. And for the teeth, it was a personal preference :)

      I start primer and assemble the front and rear axle, I also have some PE parts for seat belts, hood pins and a lot of decals.
      After that I want to rebuild a Boeing 747 KLM or I have a Boeing 737 1/144 scale or I can build a Porsche 959 1/24 scale, or Nissan 370 z Fairlayd.

    Hello. What did you find was the most difficult part of the build?

    • @SmallScaleFun
      @SmallScaleFun  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey!
      For this kit, the hard part was masking windows after that, applying the blue stripe decals from the left and right fuselage sides. Also, I had an issue with the holding base in order to paint the fuselage (I drop the model on the floor).
      I have two 1/144 Boeing kits in my stash but I'm not planning to buy such big kits in near future :)))

      Hello!
      Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
      Yes, wash the plastic parts with soap and water or use a degreaser solution. After that, put all the parts in a bag or plastic box in order to avoid dust particles. When you are ready to apply the first layer of primer, take them out and spray with 1000 or 1200 grid primer. I use Mr. Hobby primer gray for Cool White.

    • @SmallScaleFun
      @SmallScaleFun  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was just looking now at the model and it looks like that because of the light.
      Is not enough light in the room and in some places the paint covers the windows and I wasn't able to remove it.
      Also, I think the gray primer from the interior accentuates this effect.
      Is not my best model ever made but I try to improve my skills with each model built. :)
