Being authentic in inauthentic spaces can really have you thinking you are crazy but eventually understanding that will liberate you in ways you never imagined.

That’s the thing… when you understand you in that inauthentic space you just have to go ahead and live in the world but not of it because it’s pointless. Nothing is ever really going to change in the macro world. You can only change your small part of the world.

Kids being taught to not speak up against adults is the main reason so many kids were molested and continued to be due to the fear of being molded to not speak up for themselves. I teach my daughter that you have the right to speak up for yourself as long as it’s done respectfully, even if it’s against me.

In the first 5 minutes of the conversation I knew Shannon was gonna have to come outta the shallow end and join her in the deep. She holds conversations on multiple levels, understanding her experience in the context of structurial, cultural, and individual. Initially he didn't realize it was gonna be at that altitude. But he stepped up. He got there. She has a stellar mind and that intimidates a whole lot of folks, especially white folk.

I had friends of all colours and ethnicities and only understood is all to be different not “different” I do believe Children brought up in racist environment don’t understand the effect or impact of their behaviour being racist because it’s simply what they’re brought up with no less excusable but up to an age ( because if your not being educated at home it your being taught at school ) it’s about the fact that your hurting someone period regardless of context and correcting that behaviour immediately. You blame the upbringing not necessarily the product. Unfortunately it’s all learned behaviour … children are not born thinking their differences can be perceived as negative be it race lifestyle gender sexuality religion….. they are taught to be cogniscent of these perceptions based on things passed on . The hard part on both sides is just letting go. On one side it’s realizing your ancestors passed issues have nothing to to do with your current existence understand we are just people and differences are surface level in every way . On the receiving side it’s hard to let go of all the of the atrocities youre ancestors experienced as the hands of people with these issues , because while you’re world is different they went through it get you here and letting go may feel like you’d be denying their struggle so you end up carrying it forward in a way as well .

I feel like she recognizes when people are stupid and she chooses to not get stuck there. She navigated multiple triggers with grace...because there were several times within the first 20 minutes where she could've (and should've) eaten him alive....not because she wanted to...but he was saying some really dumb things that were obvious and needed to be corrected. But I think she is starting to become exhausted with having to navigate other peoples improper thinking. Shes starting to choose her battles...almost seems like she is protecting her peace.

In my opinion, Amanda is so self-aware and direct and a segment of the people who strongly don't like her or find her annoying are arguably uncomfortable because they don't have or have not personally reached her level of awareness, confidence, & unapologetic resolve to fight injustice. The mindset is "I can't silence my voice and saying the hard truths because of anyone else's discomfort" and I 100% understand it & support it. I am also appreciate Amanda's candidness and the visibility/representation of someone living on the spectrum.

In a way that people could easily dismiss her and make the claim that they don't "like" her, I also feel as though she needed to feel this way to become this self aware in a good way.

@rla8713 Many people with autism have this experience where they are bullied, exploited, and ostracized! Even if people didn't like her, why are they comfortable at openly humiliating her, saying cruel things to and about her! That type of behavior is inappropriate regardless if they like a person or not! Even if I don't particularly care for someone, I don't need to gossip, slander, judge, or humiliate another human being because that isn't a reflection of that person, it's a reflection of me. Now, if someone does something to you, then you directly go to that person and address it. My heart goes out to autistic individuals because they aren't harming anyone. They just operate, process, and show up differently than mainstream society! But they deserve to be seen, heard, and respected as well!

There’s enough racism out there not to attribute it to places where that isn’t the main cause.

Amanda showed great mastery in that interview. At the start, as her experience and her perceptions were in my opinion minimized, she patiently stood in her power and authority and scholarship. She also did not engage in an ego battle but continued through connection never wavering from her point of view.

Been watching this channel for a minute, but today i actually subscribe, and for the first time, also posting a comment! Only because of this interview! I can definitely see where she’s coming from! I’ve work retail and I’m always so happy and positive, and for whatever reason, that’s gotten me in trouble, not only there but any place I’ve worked. Regardless her stories where great, hate she’s been through all that but it only makes her a better person, also shows you people’s true colors and how unhappy successful people are all over. There’s issues you can’t escape no matter which level of live you’re living

Only 30 minutes in and I’m already sooo exhausted for Amanda. So glad she is not letting him go unchecked. She states her boundaries and instead of really listening he’s thinking of how to defend his own beliefs. When you’re so adamant about being RIGHT, you’re completely missing the opportunity to really hear someone and what a shame because you will never grow as a person if you aren’t willing to learn from other people.

Unc i said this earlier and I’ll say it again, this platform of a conversation and not an interview has opened my eyes in ways I never knew. I was one of the many who couldn’t stand this woman but today I listened. I listened even when I was getting irritated and then I saw her. I literally saw the human…the spirit. I’ve literally turned my entire view of her around and respect her. Dare I say I find her endearing. Thank you Amanda for being authentic.

At the hour and 23 minute mark, when Amanda says "So you finally understand me, it took me a minute but we are here." I felt that. This entire TIME, two different individuals are trying to find a mutual understanding of each other and respect each other's differences. You can't TRULY know anyone until you understand what are the experiences that shape them.

Regarding the kids using racist language part. It's intent vs impact. It doesn't matter if the kids "were just repeating what their parents said." What matters is the IMPACT of their words on Amanda. That's what we need to focus on, not making excuses for them. Calling her the n-word and minimizing her talent was racist. Period.
