    Nice video! Interesting to see how a 35 year old extinguisher from Amerex outperformed a brand new extinguisher from Kidde. Keep up the good work.

      That’s because Amerex hasn’t changed the design of their parts and they supply parts in bulk to companies.

    In all fairness, you switched to a Flared nozzle amerex. You should have kept with the 3A nozzle on the amerex. Just my thoughts and awesome videos man.

    I trust amerex exclusively for my house. I have 8 chrome 5lb abc extinguishers in the living quarters, 2 amerex water extinguishers in the garage and chemistry lab, 2 amerex co2 extinguishers for the garage and boiler room, a 20lb amerex abc for the garage and another 5 and 10lb abc for the garage, this plus 4 halotron 2.5lb units for two cars and 4 3lb halon extinguishers as extras. I’m always impressed with their quality. I’ve collected multiple kidde extinguishers that have failed and agree with your conclusion about the buckeye.

    I’ve used Amerex FX from the early seventies through brand new and you always know what you’ll get- reliable firefighting. The old Ansuls with the thick steel handles were also top-notch and last forever.

    • @FireAlarmDude5967
      @FireAlarmDude5967  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ansul is a very decent brand for cartridge operated. The stored pressure models today are not bad at all but I certainly prefer amerex

    We had a first alert 2.5 pound extinguisher and it was alright in quality and thankfully it worked when we had a large grease fire in our grill. The handle was a little lose but it was metal and it worked pretty well for the size of the fire.

    The problem with kidde is the lack of parts they supply to companies who service extinguishers, and their funky L shaped o’ring.

  • @ClassicalRips

    I have a very bad problem with Ansul Sentry extinguishers with paint and rust issues for units that are stored outdoors. It always starts on the top/neck of the extinguisher, and the paint chips off in large chunks, allowing the body to rust. Amerex chrome-body extinguishers have proven to be the best for outdoor use, and Amerex offers chrome cylinders as an factory option on almost all of their extinguishers other than Co2.

    • @FireAlarmDude5967
      @FireAlarmDude5967  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ansuls have declined in quality recently, the rust is a problem. Amerex brass valve units are the best in my opinion, however no extinguisher should be installed uncovered outside.

    I service extinguishers. ABC mostly. My faves to service are sentry, buckeye, sentry and amerex. Don’t really care for the kidde, first alert and strike first. Strike first sometimes doesn’t hold its charge after serving. Kidde made a huge mistake by making plastic handle units. Their is probably still hundreds of thousands of recalled ones out their. Hopefully this infor was something interesting for u to read. If u have any other questions about fire extinguisher servicing plz let me know

    I have a first alert abc extinguisher. It is the one painted white, single use, has the tester pop up pin on the top and has a built in simple plastic trigger as opposed to a squeeze handle. Are first alert extinguishers any good? I also have a kidde abc but unfortunately, I think it might be the recalled one.

    • @FireAlarmDude5967

    The Kidde is basically a "home owner" model. The UL rating may be on the order of 2A;20BC. On the Amerex, a commercial grade, a UL rating of 3A:40BC might be carried. There in lays the BIG difference. Point being, not ALL extinguishers of the same capacity are equal. That doesn't make one "better" than another but you might not be apples to apples on this. Also, some Kiddes are NOT a 5 lb. capacity. Look on the recharge instructions some are only a 4 lb. capacity. Some Kiddes are operated at 195 PSI pressure while others are at 100 PSI. Amerex is always 5 lb. capacity and 195 PSI. Kidde seems to be all over the map on capacities and pressures. Some are made in the USA, others China. I've had some of the Chinese units brought into our shop and we cant recharge them. I've seen gauges put in upside down on the Chinese units.

    • @FireAlarmDude5967
      @FireAlarmDude5967  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of those factors are the same. The Kidde has a 3A40BC rating and it’s a commercial rechargeable unit. The Amerex is the same, but in fact it’s only 2A10BC rated as it’s a much older model. The Kidde is actually a 5.5 pound extinguisher and charged to 195 PSI.
