The GAU-8 is an seven barrel Gatling gun in 30 mm caliber.
The Centurion C-RAM/Phalanx CIWS (Counter-Rocket Artillery Mortar) system and CIWS (Close In Weapon System) use a 20mm gatling gun/cannon to destroy incoming targets.
If the C RAM is firing at night there are amazing red tracers.

They are great to intercept missiles. Fighter jets not so much since they can be evaded. But they still force it to evade so at least smth

It’s not designed to shoot down aircraft. It’s designed to shoot down incoming projectiles. They are primarily a naval defense system, but were also deployed to bases in Afghanistan where it is said they successfully and consistently shot incoming mortar rounds out of the sky. Missile systems are used for shooting down manned aircraft.

But the pilots are all dumb. Did you see that high-negative-G-pushover? Absurd. The pilots in these vids often fire from low angles which is just a waste of the altitude advantage, and should be using missiles.

I was thinking the same thing. Fighters are fast but not nearly as fast as the rockets and mortars these things take out on a regular basis.

Yes the firing machine used to sence the heat of the aircraft and then fire the bullets. Hence the flames distracts the bullets 👍🏼
The CIWS Use heat-seeking system so the flares can jammed it

The chaft and Fair deployment interfere the CIWS radar made it s accuracy dropped, then the pilot changes flight path, the CIWS reacquire target again the jet s radar warning redeploy the chaft and Fair again then the loop restart aging and again until the jet s chaft run out, the CIWS hit rate will increase.

As Demonstrated, CWIZ is not terribly effective even against SLOW Targets. Imagine a Supersonic, or Hypersonic inbound. You see 1970's Technology totally out classed !

C-RAMS are incredibly inefficient. With better tuning to precision and quicker reaction, it can expend less ammon. But it's decent for now

Tracer rounds and large caliber shells. It moves pretty fast since it could hit the jet thats several thousand feet away.

For those who wonder why the plane does not just kill it with missiles, the c-ram is an automated anti-missile system, so it would be a waste of time to shoot it since the missiles would be easily intercepted
apparently the only thing wasted here is cram bullets.

@@danidiamond the C-ram is predicting the next move the jet would make and isnt 100% predictions, also the jet is equipped with flares that throws off the C-rams, targeting system and would have a higher chance to track the flare

CIWS and C RAM fire where the jet is predicted to go based on calculations derived from radar readings to determine the speed and position of the aircraft. This reading is quite accurate against flying objects that are not manually guided. Once a bullet has been fired from the CWIS/C RAM a pilot or controller has a brief window of time to change their path so that they don't go where the computer predicted them to be. The evasion isn't as easy as it looks from the ground either.
