The fact that you are aware of Starmania is impressive. Dimash's approach is also impressive! This was the first performance of the first night of the Chinese competition show - The Singer - in 2017. Generally only accomplished Chinese singers could participate. But Dimash had won several contests in Kazakhstan, and was invited to compete as a wild card. No one had any idea who he was, and as it was his first performance, the audience was advised in advance by the producers to applaud and give him a warm welcome to the stage. By the end of the song, they were applauding and cheering for real. He took first place for that night's competition. For those who love Dimash, another must see singer is Zhao Shen from China. Because of his small stature, feminine disposition and voice, he was often bullied in school. Never thinking that he had what it takes to be a singer, he went tot he Ukraine to become a dentist. While there, he was convinced that he did have a great singing ability, thus transferred his major to music. Thank goodness he did. As an introduction into Zhao "Charlie" Shen, begin with his premiere performance on the Voice of China singing HuanYan. Originally it was sung by Daniel Balavoine who had a sudden death in a helicopter accident in 1986, who is known of his beautiful voice. Later, it was covered by Gregory Lemarchal, a young French singer who inspired Dimash to sing “SOS d'un terrien en detresse” who at all odds won the 4th series Reality TV Program Star Academy, despite his failing health and became an overnight success in France but had a shorter career, for he died young with his unusual illness of Cystic Fibrosis in 2007 at the age of 23. Recently it was unbelievably covered by Dimash and from time to time Dimash sung it in memory of his great friend Denis Ten an Olympic figure skater from Kazakhstan who was stabbed after a dispute with people who allegedly tried to steal a mirror from his car in his home city of Almaty. He died of massive blood loss from multiple wounds at the age of 25 in 2018. MY THOUGHTS AND OPINION OF THIS SONG (REF CCC): Suffering and death is one of the realities of human life. It is important that we should know the basic truth about it, so that it will not cause us fear and distress in our human life’s , but rather to remind us all of our ultimate destiny as people of faith. For me, there are 3 kinds of suffering we experienced in life: 1st suffering that God allows, 2nd suffering which is the results of our own choices and decisions and 3rd is the suffering which is cause by other people to us. In whatever forms of suffering we are experiencing, know that, if it is discerned well it will gain us eternal merit. Note that, it is not important how much and how long we suffer, or who cause us to suffer, but how is our attitude towards it when it comes into our life…? Yes he was not very well versed on English at this time, but since he has studied to perfect English and mandarin to add to his native tongue khazak and Russian. He has sung in 12 languages but he does not know them all...yet. I can say his English right now is pretty darn good.

I can't begin to guess how many times I've watched this performance in the last three years .... absolutely for sure a minimum of 150 times. And my favorite times watching it are for new reactors. You had a little hint of what Dimash can do, so it wasn't quite as surprising to you as it is to someone who has NEVER heard him before. Can you even imagine? As far as other performances ..... there are just so many! But two at the top that I know you'll enjoy are Olimpico, Arnau concert in Nur-Sultan, and Sinful Passion. (The one titled "New Sinful Passion" is my favorite and was during his own concert and not the one in Sochi where he was a guest singer.)

I first heard SOS from Starmania about 30 years ago, and I think I have heard about every performance of this song, but about 4 years ago I heard DIMASH do SOS, the same version you just listened to and he captured me totally and has not released me yet, I can and do listen to him daily. I have heard many performers in my lifetime, all the great ones; but no one has possessed me the way DIMASH has. Right now I have a problem with his song "WAR and Peace" I can not get the song , the lyrics or his voice singing the song out of my head, I wake up at night and have to listen to him perform this song. DIMASH please have some mercy on me. 4 years is a long time. (edited) I found a version of War and Peace from his Arnau concert in Kiev(11 mar, 2020) with English lyrics and I think it had enhanced audio it sounded EPIC( and I have heard this song many times before) but this performance has me listening over and over.
there is an audio only studio version of that song where he is wearing a sweater on the cover. listen to it with head phone on. not to mention his vocal, the arrangement of the instruments is astoundingly intricate.

I love youre reactions! This was the first time he was on stage in that competion and first song of the evenong! He was a bit nerves becous no one new him then. The outher contest hadent heard him before this not even on rehersals. He dosent even give 100 % on reharsels so not even the musicens knew how he sounds like live!! hihi A side not...the jacket he wears here he sold at auction for charrity if I remember correct. Dears correct me if I'm wrong please!!! I loved his hole contest and still watching it. It has english subs on them if you look for them. Then you even knows what happens just before and after he starts singing. That can be some fun things some times. On Opera 2 his dad hade come and hadent told him. So he hide during Dimash singing and Dimash just see him when he stats the thanks after he had sung. When they came out from the room Dimash asked his father Kanat if he hade sing good!!! He also told him he whanted to go home becouse he missed them al and his dad said that they supported him. He also asked again if he done good when he was going in to the outhers. Great reaction, i watched Starmania version in past, probably in 2017 after watched Dimash, and i loovee, the guy can sing amazingly, and extremelly emotional, Dimash is out of this world with his range, but i prefer starmania version with the beautifull french and the emotional feeling! If u want to check the bigger competitor against Dimash on this show, try 'Tan Jing', she left the show, but she was above Sandy Lam, i recomend her performance on 2th or 3th episode when she took second and first place! This show had a lot of crazy competitors, like Hua Chenyu in Singer2018, Kz Tandingan, Polina Gagarina in 2019... but for sure Dimash and Hua Chenyu were the biggest surprises of all the Competitions!

Wow, I think you're the only reactor I've seen who actually knows what Starmania is! I'm a big fan of the rock opera and that's how I found Dimash originally. I like to see how the songs evolve over time. Dimash's diction in French is... uneven. He can and has done better than in this version. But he does get the main sounds and certainly knocked the notes out of the park. He's in a league of his own singing this song. It's not a fair comparison with other singers because he adds an operatic register that "regular" singers simply don't have. I do like very much what he did with the song. He certainly gets the tragedy of the song, though it always feels "self-contained" to me in his version, as opposed to other versions (like the original by Daniel Balavoine) where the song has a dimension connected to the story in Starmania. Dimash did something different, beautiful, that honors the song on its own. A fantastic performance that showcases his amazing range and emotional connection.
Yeah well if you are Canadian and in to music, and are forced to listen to Francophone Music in class, chances are you are going to hear some Starmania, I think. Or maybe I just had the right teacher. But regardless, this was a great performance :)

The fact that you are aware of Starmania is impressive. Dimash's approach is also impressive! This was the first performance of the first night of the Chinese competition show - The Singer - in 2017. Generally only accomplished Chinese singers could participate. But Dimash had won several contests in Kazakhstan, and was invited to compete as a wild card. No one had any idea who he was, and as it was his first performance, the audience was advised in advance by the producers to applaud and give him a warm welcome to the stage. By the end of the song, they were applauding and cheering for real. He took first place for that night's competition. For those who love Dimash, another must see singer is Zhao Shen from China. Because of his small stature, feminine disposition and voice, he was often bullied in school. Never thinking that he had what it takes to be a singer, he went tot he Ukraine to become a dentist. While there, he was convinced that he did have a great singing ability, thus transferred his major to music. Thank goodness he did.
As an introduction into Zhao "Charlie" Shen, begin with his premiere performance on the Voice of China singing HuanYan. After this first video, move on to his versions of "Memory", and "Time to Say Goodbye".

He has performed songs in 12 languages, Kazakh, Russian, English, Mandarin Chinese, Italian, French, Spanish, German, Serbian, Turkish, Ukrainian and Kyrgyz. At the age of five, Kudaibergen began to take piano and vocal lessons at the children's studio of Aktobe's Akhmet Zhubanov Music College. He later attended Gymnasium No. 32 in Aktobe. Kudaibergen completed a Broadway Musical master class in 2009. In 2014, he graduated in Classical Music with Major in Vocal (Bel Canto) from the music institute of K. Zhubanov University in Aktobe. He began his studies in Contemporary Music (Jazz, Pop) at Kazakh National University of Arts in Astana, where he graduated with Major in Vocal on 27 June 2018. I still browse the music videos of Dimash from time to time to see what still store in there. I’m just wondering how much effort and strength Dimash had invested into it, to reach such a powerful voice and the many other talents that he had. Indeed it is really a great work. How he was able to develop such a heights of his talents is really admirable and worth learning and imitating. And it is much more beautiful because he sang it by heart, naturally and at his heart’s content with joyful disposition.
The discipline, dedication and high ideals in pursuing his career the best he can is worth imitating not only in our individual professional fields but also in living out our day to day life. His hard work for years is indeed bearing good fruits in abundance. And so my heartfelt congratulations to Dimash and his family and all others who supported him all the way through as a musician. For me as a public listener it counts a lot the personal disposition of the artist and the good content and message of its music.
The fact that, he is able to sing his music at maximum or more than 6 octaves with ease and comfort in different languages and in various voices is really amazing. But some others also cannot handle and cannot even believe the power, the strength and the heights of his voice…and they said Ooh… is Dimash human..? Alien..? Etc, I think It’s just a natural reaction that people wonder and be surprise by it or cannot even believed it at all, it’s because it is beyond human expectation.
I believed that Dimash 21 year’s cultivation of his voice and talents is no tricks and no magic at all; though he is gifted by God with grace for music but his years of hard work of practice and experiences proved it to us and to the world … that indeed it is possible. My other concern whenever I listen to music is that, I usually ask: WHAT MESSAGE THIS MUSIC BRINGS ..? TO THE WORLD..? TO PEOPLE..?
Although Dimash music are very good, full of content and meaning but I like most this music, because for me it speaks a message of truth, values and realities of human life. I feel that, it is not just enough to give my thumbs up to like this music, but I’m deeply moved to share something more about the richness and deeper meaning of it.
With due respect to the composers, writers and singers of these music for whatever their purpose and intention would be, will always take precedence. The thoughts that I will be sharing below is only the fruits of my personal reflections based on the things that I highly valued and on how I perceived it myself and the message of this song that reaches out to me. I like this music because it reminds me the Truth, Realities and Precariousness of Human Life particularly Suffering and Death)
SONG FACTS: The song is from French Rock Opera called Starmania. Originally it was sung by Daniel Balavoine who had a sudden death in a helicopter accident in 1986, who is known of his beautiful voice. Later, it was covered by Gregory Lemarchal, a young French singer who inspired Dimash to sing “SOS d'un terrien en detresse” who at all odds won the 4th series Reality TV Program Star Academy, despite his failing health and became an overnight success in France but had a shorter career, for he died young with his unusual illness of Cystic Fibrosis in 2007 at the age of 23.
Recently it was unbelievably covered by Dimash and from time to time Dimash sung it in memory of his great friend Denis Ten an Olympic figure skater from Kazakhstan who was stabbed after a dispute with people who allegedly tried to steal a mirror from his car in his home city of Almaty. He died of massive blood loss from multiple wounds at the age of 25 in 2018. The song has sad lyrics: “a soul’s plea for help or an earthly being in distress” because it is a human being who is in anguish searching for the absolute.
MY THOUGHTS AND OPINION OF THIS SONG (REF CCC): Suffering and death is one of the realities of human life. It is important that we should know the basic truth about it, so that it will not cause us fear and distress in our human life’s , but rather to remind us all of our ultimate destiny as people of faith. For me, there are 3 kinds of suffering we experienced in life:
1st suffering that God allows, 2nd suffering which is the results of our own choices and decisions and 3rd is the suffering which is cause by other people to us. In whatever forms of suffering we are experiencing, know that, if it is discerned well it will gain us eternal merit. Note that, it is not important how much and how long we suffer, or who cause us to suffer, but how is our attitude towards it when it comes into our life…? All of these three can be an opportunity of grace that we will grow in virtue, when we accept it with humility, discernment and faith in God.
Our usual human tendency is, if we can, we try to avoid any kind of pain and suffering in our life. However we can’t deny also that life is mixed up of many learning experiences both in joys and in difficulties and I supposed we need it both, because it contributes and helps us mature and grow over time in many aspects of life. Suffering and death may seem contrary to our own human thinking or world’s way of thinking but in it, there’s a certain wisdom which is richer and deeper that no one can fully understand.
Suffering reminds us the real fact that we are all fragile human beings; that we are limited and we are not God. Sufferings are human reality and consequences of sin that affects us all. It helps us see the real worth and value of things and meaning in life. It sharpens our awareness that this earth is not our permanent and true home. We should remember that we are only strangers and pilgrims on this earth”.
Suffering purifies and refines us of any life’s superficiality into an authentic one. Though no one really is actively searching for suffering in his / her life, but honestly truth compels us to admit that sufferings do have a great value in our life and by experiencing it personally in reality, you will never be the same person. But through the original sin that enters human lives, our nature has been wounded, and is now subject to suffering and death.
Death for us is a frightening mystery because we are being stripped off of all our attachments to this world; our body lies corrupt; our immortal soul goes to meet the Lord. We will see the whole truth of our lives. Death creates in us a feelings of fear, separation, sadness and pain.
Many times we evade this reality and we try to question and even argue with God why…? But all our efforts failed because whether we like it or not at the end, we all die. Death comes in our life anytime anywhere. No material things, good health, young age can guarantee of its extension. The truth is… in front of death we are all poor and powerless.
If this life were the only one we had, death would definitely be the great tragedy. Death is such a peaceful, joyful event in our life, if we die reconciled with God and at peace with others as well. Death is unknown to all of us, therefore, it is best that we should prepare at all times.

Dimash sang in 7 languages on the show, but had only 1 week to learn each one. His English has improved greatly since 2017. He sings in 12 languages, and plays 7 instruments. He has a 6+ octave range, C1 to D8 (sustained), He is classically trained, of course, but performs many different genres.

This song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' 1978, well known in French-speaking countries) and is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight.
In 2017 Dimash received a wild-card for the competition “The Singer” in China. He was the youngest participant of all time (22 years) and the first non-Chinese. If you love the song and dimash's performance, you may enjoy some of his other renditions of the song. These are my favorite: Slavic Bazaar (a singing contest in Belarus, Dimash was a guest performer, 2018), Arnau Kinetic Voice concert (Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, 2019), and the renditions with a more rock-sounding arrangements - Arnau Envoy concert in NY, 2019, and Arnau Kiev concert in 2020. "Arnau" means "dedication" and it's the name of his tour with solo concerts in 2019-2020. All these performances and concerts are on his channel.

You should watch "sinful passion", "love of tired swans", "mademoiselle hyde", "know" and "unforgettable day" 👌
I can't begin to guess how many times I've watched this performance in the last three years .... absolutely for sure a minimum of 150 times. And my favorite times watching it are for new reactors. You had a little hint of what Dimash can do, so it wasn't quite as surprising to you as it is to someone who has NEVER heard him before. Can you even imagine? As far as other performances ..... there are just so many! But two at the top that I know you'll enjoy are Olimpico, Arnau concert in Nur-Sultan, and Sinful Passion. (The one titled "New Sinful Passion" is my favorite and was during his own concert and not the one in Sochi where he was a guest singer.)
If you do olimpico (ogni pietra) do NOT do the face cam version some fools recommend- it has dreadful audio! The best version has DQ logo in top right- forget what concert etc.

I first heard SOS from Starmania about 30 years ago, and I think I have heard about every performance of this song, but about 4 years ago I heard DIMASH do SOS, the same version you just listened to and he captured me totally and has not released me yet, I can and do listen to him daily. I have heard many performers in my lifetime, all the great ones; but no one has possessed me the way DIMASH has. Right now I have a problem with his song "WAR and Peace" I can not get the song , the lyrics or his voice singing the song out of my head, I wake up at night and have to listen to him perform this song. DIMASH please have some mercy on me. 4 years is a long time. (edited) I found a version of War and Peace from his Arnau concert in Kiev(11 mar, 2020) with English lyrics and I think it had enhanced audio it sounded EPIC( and I have heard this song many times before) but this performance has me listening over and over.
there is an audio only studio version of that song where he is wearing a sweater on the cover. listen to it with head phone on. not to mention his vocal, the arrangement of the instruments is astoundingly intricate.

This was the first time he was on stage in that competion and first song of the evenong! He was a bit nerves becous no one new him then. The outher contest hadent heard him before this not even on rehersals. He dosent even give 100 % on reharsels so not even the musicens knew how he sounds like live!! hihi

I loved his hole contest and still watching it. It has english subs on them if you look for them. Then you even knows what happens just before and after he starts singing. That can be some fun things some times.
On Opera 2 his dad hade come and hadent told him. So he hide during Dimash singing and Dimash just see him when he stats the thanks after he had sung. When they came out from the room Dimash asked his father Kanat if he hade sing good!!! He also told him he whanted to go home becouse he missed them al and his dad said that they supported him. He also asked again if he done good when he was going in to the outhers.

Great reaction, i watched Starmania version in past, probably in 2017 after watched Dimash, and i loovee, the guy can sing amazingly, and extremelly emotional, Dimash is out of this world with his range, but i prefer starmania version with the beautifull french and the emotional feeling!
If u want to check the bigger competitor against Dimash on this show, try 'Tan Jing', she left the show, but she was above Sandy Lam, i recomend her performance on 2th or 3th episode when she took second and first place!
This show had a lot of crazy competitors, like Hua Chenyu in Singer2018, Kz Tandingan, Polina Gagarina in 2019... but for sure Dimash and Hua Chenyu were the biggest surprises of all the Competitions!

Of course this is 4 years old, but the quality of this show is amazing and it's fun to see the development after that - Dimash is growing better and better and keeps surprising us - so amazing! Wow, I think you're the only reactor I've seen who actually knows what Starmania is! I'm a big fan of the rock opera and that's how I found Dimash originally. I like to see how the songs evolve over time. Dimash's diction in French is... uneven. He can and has done better than in this version. But he does get the main sounds and certainly knocked the notes out of the park. He's in a league of his own singing this song. It's not a fair comparison with other singers because he adds an operatic register that "regular" singers simply don't have. I do like very much what he did with the song. He certainly gets the tragedy of the song, though it always feels "self-contained" to me in his version, as opposed to other versions (like the original by Daniel Balavoine) where the song has a dimension connected to the story in Starmania. Dimash did something different, beautiful, that honors the song on its own. A fantastic performance that showcases his amazing range and emotional connection.
Yeah well if you are Canadian and in to music, and are forced to listen to Francophone Music in class, chances are you are going to hear some Starmania, I think. Or maybe I just had the right teacher. But regardless, this was a great performance :)
