    Underrated car. Still have our family -04 V40 2.0T since new and now with 420.000 km on factory engine and trans (clutch lasted (390000 km!) and it always starts, never been unreliable. Solid car that keeps up with or even beats modern cars. Mine is lightened by about 50 kg and with home built catback exhaust and it just flys past everyone at the red lights. A Tesla tried to check me yesterday and we were going side by side until we had to brake. Great first car and most haven’t been tuned or destroyed like bmws

    Heerlijke bak. Zelf 2 gehad in 't gezin.

    Absolute definition of a sleeper. Owned one of these for 4 years. Tweaked the boost but otherwise stock and it was unreal fast. Cant handle for shit but a bullet in a straight line. Very fond memories of hilarious stories beating loads of things it simply should not have. Pissed off alot of people getting beaten by a granny looking Volvo 😂

    Had a 1.8 2001 V40. Absolutely loved the car, super practical and super cheap to run. It is true that the steering wheel is totally disconnected from the road, dry, wet or snow, it all felt the same. Which is fine for this class of car. Safety wise - can attest from my roll over on the motorway at 60MPH. Walked out the car with just scratches and bruises.
    Now driving a 2005 XC70 - more premium on the interior and it feels it. Super solid engine at 350k kms, still producing around 200HP. But it still feels like a brick on the road, the steering is as numb as on the V40.

    simply cool, I drove a 1.8 16V Laguna (station) for more than 10 years. I remark: from day one I missed a 6-th gear. Took it to Winterhols last week and now after 10 years I thought: need something different. Its now a Skoda Octavia Combi RS with new pistons, cylinders, its completely new. New clutch and all chains, belts are replaced. Bought the car for €3.300,- (185.128km) and as a service thing and a best friend as a chief VAG company with own garage we decided to upgrade the car. Now driving it not faster then 4000RPM for 1000km's then it will get the Stage1 upgrade to 270bhp. This car and engine wants an upgrade and will be done by supreme tuning. I always loved the V40 and owned one it was silver like the RS is now. Unluckily someone crashed into it and it was a write off eversince. It was a GREAT car but not very spacious in the back. The wheels came in quite a lot. Nice review!

    You should try to swap the front suspension with an updated (phase II) car. Apparently they did a big improvement there. I commented before on this Volvo, I also had the same (but a 1.8) and front suspension was the worst ever. For the rest a nice comfortable car for long journeys abroad :)

    This inspired me to get one! Prices went up significantly, so last month I bought a non-running shitbox which had been parked in a field for 2 years. Still doesn't run today, but working on these old Volvos is a blast! Most parts are well thought out and easy to repair. The interior is 90% done (all black leather in suprisingly good condition) and most of the rust has been mended. Just needs a new headliner which i already have laying around, and the engine swapped.
    I'm going to be putting a ph2 head on a ph1 block to see how far we can push it. I have a 16T turbo laying around i want to bolt onto it. Should be good for about 300 hp.

    • @contemporarymonk
      @contemporarymonk 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The V40 chassis was designed completely in house by Volvo. They really thought out the mechanical parts well. It is super easy to work on, and parts aren't super expensive and until recently were plentiful. The V70 P2 chassis had some ford influence and you can tell. As some parts are so incredibly hard to replace, that they practically require disassembly of the whole car.

    • @Laylander
      @Laylander 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@contemporarymonk They still share most of their parts with the P2 platform though, I'm using forged conrods meant for a B5234T3 in my B4204T5. Also scrapped an P2 facelift oil pickup tube and pump, Ford Focus RS oil cooler and Focus RS M66 gearbox. Also grinded off the 5th cylinder of the exhaust manifold to fit a TD04HL turbine. Haven't had it on the rollers yet, but for about €500 worth of scrapped parts i went from 200hp to estimated 390-410 ish.
      The V40 also shares quite a few suspension parts with Mitshubishi, so I fitted 4pot brembos from an evo, and got some sweet fully adjustable coilovers.
