I lost my first cat and was devastated. So I went to an animal rescue to find a "replacement". Well while in the cat pen 2 picked me. A calico leaped up and knocked my glasses off my face. Then a tiny grey cat approached me and wound around my legs. He was 8 weeks old and the calico was 6 years old. They acclimated well. But I noticed that he would suckle on her to the point of drawing blood. I suspected he was younger than what his id said At the same time I noticed his profuse whiskers were gone! I decided it was time to get him fixed. Brought him home from that and he was so groggy that he was falling over. The calico would nudge him repeatedly to wake him up. It took a while maybe a week or two to see whiskers reappear on his face, and they calmed down on their rough housing. They were inseparable. As a note when she died 10 years later I found her on the floor at the base of the bed. He was on top of the bed looking down howling in the most mournful way.

As someone who never had a pet growing up, and only became a cat owner as an adult, I did ask this question once. I looked at my cat, and his whiskers looked really long and messy, sticking out in every direction. I was wondering if this was something I should do as a part of his grooming, but luckily I asked and looked it up before doing something horribly wrong.

My baby's favorite place all her life was my bed, so I found many shed whiskers there over the years. They always fascinated me. Also, even though we did nail trims, she would chew her claws if she felt they were too long. I found a couple shed claws as well. I've never noticed another cat try to trim their own nails, but then she and I were in tune in a way I don't think I'll ever find again, so I may just not have caught anyone else doing it.

I have had 2 cats over 28 years and have always saved their fallen out whiskers when found around the house. I've found over 200 of them from my 20 year old cat and almost half that much with my 8 years old. I keep them in little bottles with their name marked on the bottle.

I would never ever cut my little Gizmo's whiskers. But some years ago I took in a stray tabby cat. He got too close to my fire pit when the coals were still hot and he singed his whiskers on one side. His name became whiskers after that. And yes, they did eventually grow back.

They say cats are 'mid sighted', but its still leaps beyond human eyesight, especially at night. They have a much higher concentration of rods than humans do, which gives them a wider visual field and far better nighttime vision than us. If you ever watched a cat stalking prey (even in daytime) but you couldn't see exactly what they were zoned in on, only to eventually see it after the prey jumps and runs for its life, you will know what I mean!

Since we have to trim our hair to keep it healthy, i thought my cat (which was a cat we scooped from the street) was in a dire need for a trim... although i didn't know any better the scolding my mom gave me after she found out what i did made me never forget! I have never cut kitty whiskers. I did have a kitty who crouched between my legs as I tried to light an old gas stove after preheating it. The result was an explosion. Kitty lost his whiskers and I had second degree burns on my right hand. We were lucky we did not get blown through the front door. kitty's.whiskers grew back just fine.😊

My younger brother cut his cats whiskers when he was three, he was learning to use safety scissors, and no one noticed right away, but the cat was trying to tell me something , he would meow and wiggle his nose…then I saw them, cut off! Poor kitty was so upset , so was my father, and my brother was punished after my dad told him all the things that could happen without whiskers and that he had harmed his cat, well, thank heavens he never did that again! When Dad asked why he did it, he said “they were too long” and started to cry.

We have three cats. A brother/sister pair 3.5 years old and a recent stray male (20 weeks) we've adopted. Since about 9 months old or so, the male has routinely chewed-off his sister's whiskers during mutual grooming. She doesn't seem to be bothered much by the situation. And now he does the same with the new arrival. Any thoughts on how to prevent this? Or just ignore it?
