Wow! I would do anything to have just two of those motors. They are so damn expensive and shipping them to Kenya would mean further costs not to forget the taxes. With that much motors you can literally do anything you like. Great video.

What sort of SEARCH terms did Garcia use to find these motors, they look like 3-phase industrial/process models
The transaxle has another reduction stage before the wheels, so while the transmissions 4th gear may be 1:1 the differential/final drive is likely 3~4:1

Wish I still had my '64 transporter and my '67 crew cab. I sold them in the late 80' because I was too tall; I'm shorter than that now. They took me up and down the west faithfully. 1500cc single ports. Thanks for sharing
I owned a 63 beetle and a 63 Karmann Ghia. I wish I still had them. I remember once my dog got sick in the Ghia. You can’t get puke outta that carpet! My dream car is an electric beetle. I have a modern car now, a Prius, and if I ever blow the engine, I wanna make it an EV!

i have a 2006 dodge Dakota with a blown up 4.7l v8 and a factory 6 speed manual ive gone back and fourth about what to do with it and i think an electric swap would be bad ass little truck like that with 4x4 and electric would be awesome
I love this bus. It’s actually originally named a station wagon by Volkswagen. The fact that it’s an EV is awesome. If I ever blow the engine in my Prius, I want to make it an EV, too.

I have a 1955 dodge Sierra station wagon. Would this be a good candidate to convert to electric? It doesn’t have an engine or transmission.
Around 4 minuit mark. Both mounting options would work, if you DO go 1 per wheel, don't forget a U joint at the motor side as well. It would let the swing arms bounce more as well as allow side by side mounting of the motors.

Are IPM SynRM motors commercially available? In absence of such a component, would there be a way to transfer between motors optimized for low and high speed?

Direct drive, one motor per wheel. Less to break, and one wheel slipping isn't a problem.
The only concern is what the controllers need to do during cornering.
One motor per wheel would be great to see

Are you going to be in NYC next weekend 10/23 & 10/24/21? I'd love to chat about my Ghia project and whether you think it would be wise to go with hub motors in order to have 4 WD as the Aptera does. My thought is that it might leave more space in the car. Also, can I DIY a battery pack from recycled batteries from your channel? I'd like to see that if it is possible. Maybe I'll catch you on another Friday night live stream.

The motor per wheel direct drive will not work, the 4th gear thing, you forgot about the ring gear, it is just a guess around 4:1-4.56:1
If you have the tq, I'd put something like a Subaru diff/rear axel, connect the motors to it, but I'd use the front trans axel, so you still have gears, there isn't that much loss, and possibly a 6 speed trans, allows for low rpm top speed, higher top speed, and low gear for steep hills. Or maybe a Nissan leaf gear box?

Jehu, you have the phone/camera between your mouth and the gentleman that is hearing impaired. If you move the camera down slightly he can tell what you are saying and won't need as much assistance from an interpreter, just a thought for next time.

Wow, I’m wishing these kits were more affordable years ago. As I had to give up my beetles in ‘19, due to pulmonary health reasons. Maybe as you build out these kits, I can make plans to acquire another beetle with the intent of making it electric. I can’t even remember how long I’ve been following your journey. I have a house boat. It’s a 40 ft river queen. Has two slant 6 engines in it. 225 cu. it’s heavy boat but I feel these engines only use small amount of hp to move boat. Like 1000 rpm maybe 1500. But sucks fuel like crazy. I would love your input. Or even the design to remove inboard engines and install electric.
have you considered a laudry maching drive motor? the torq is OTW. and it sips electricity just a thought.

It's a neat idea but I believe those AC-35s won't put out the right RPMs for direct driving the wheels. He'd need some kind of gearing there, and then he'd need one for each wheel...

Jehu the calculations for an electric AC motor HP is 745.7 watts per horse power.
So if your motor is designed at 180 kw maximum you are talking about 241.39 HP motor if you input all that energy in to it.
