    A beautiful tune, Brecker/Manieri version is one of my top faves.

    Great video Lesson, but I don't know why would you call that scale mixolidyan b9 b13, instead of the phrygian dominant or phrygian mayor, is the first time that I hear it

      Glad you enjoyed it - actually I've never heard the term "Phrygian Dominant" before, but I understand what it means. Mix b9b13 is what I learned in college, but honestly it doesn't really matter, so long as we understand where the scale is derived from, and how it's used.

    Nice playing. The sheet music on the screen doesn't give a time signature, although it sounds like it's 3/4 or 6/8. What time signature would you say this is? Thanks.

      It’s 3/4.

      @@Primary-Technologies I think of the E dim scale in this song like its an A7b9b13 - so it's the D harmonic minor starting on E. But you could throw the Eb in there for fun if you wanted.

    Hi Tim, a question, why do you use the natural fifth in the altered dominants ?

    • @TimCollinsVibes
      @TimCollinsVibes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The short answer is that I wasn't using altered dominant - instead on the Dom7b9b13 chords I used the 5th mode of the harmonic minor, which has both the natural 5th and the flat 6th. You could use altered dominant scale in those places if you want to though.
