They heard me singing and they told me to stop Quit these pretentious things and just punch the clock These days my life, I feel it has no purpose But late at night the feelings swim to the surface 'Cause on the surface the city lights shine They're calling at me, come and find your kind Sometimes I wonder if the world's so small That we can never get away from the sprawl Living in the sprawl Dead shopping malls rise like mountains beyond mountains And there's no end in sight I need the darkness, someone please cut the lights We rode our bikes to the nearest park Sat under the swings and kissed in the dark We shield our eyes from the police lights We run away, but we don't know why And like a mirror, the city lights shine They're screaming at us, "we don't need your kind" Sometimes I wonder if the world's so small That we can never get away from the sprawl Living in the sprawl Dead shopping malls rise like mountains beyond mountains And there's no end in sight I need the darkness, someone please cut the lights They heard me singing and they told me to stop Quit these pretentious things and just punch the clock Sometimes I wonder if the world's so small Can we ever get away from the sprawl? Living in the sprawl Dead shopping malls rise like mountains beyond mountains And there's no end in sight I need the darkness, someone please cut the lights I need the darkness, someone please cut the lights
I played this song when I first visited Australia in 2020, and my brother let me choose what song to play as he was showing me around the suburbs. Little did I know I'd end up stuck there in Perth, in the middle of nowhere, for the next 6 months. The most memorable song I heard there was City With No Children, but genuinely felt the loneliest person there. It was as if I've fast-forwarded 10 years in time, and all my friends/relatives gone. I still describe life there as if being in witness protection, and it's funny because everyone in my third-world country says they can't wait to leave and never come back, so I never thought it would feel like this. I am so glad I was able to come back and socialize with all my friends and go back to uni to attend classes and meet new people. That's my story with this song lol bye
I felt the same way when I went backpacking in Australia in 2010 and heard this song in a club in Sydney King's Cross called: World Bar and it was like a bolt of electricity to my brain and man it was awesome! Bought the Suburbs that week and never looked back. Peace ✌
Very few things come close to the emotion of this song for me. I try not to listen to it too much as I never want to feel like I’ve heard it before. ❤️
I saw them for the 3rd time in concert of November 27, 2022, in Edmonton. Win Butler came down from the stage for the Suburbs and was about 2 feet away from me. Amazing, and worth every penny.
This is a song that lays out the palette of emotion and dancing vibe all at the same time. Makes me want to dance and cry!!
Moi aussi 🕺💃🎹🎛🎸🎤🎵🎶🎵🎶
I couldn't have said this better. ❤️
In deed it is... So is "Afterlife".
Infinite love to Régine
They heard me singing and they told me to stop
Quit these pretentious things and just punch the clock
These days my life, I feel it has no purpose
But late at night the feelings swim to the surface
'Cause on the surface the city lights shine
They're calling at me, come and find your kind
Sometimes I wonder if the world's so small
That we can never get away from the sprawl
Living in the sprawl
Dead shopping malls rise like mountains beyond mountains
And there's no end in sight
I need the darkness, someone please cut the lights
We rode our bikes to the nearest park
Sat under the swings and kissed in the dark
We shield our eyes from the police lights
We run away, but we don't know why
And like a mirror, the city lights shine
They're screaming at us, "we don't need your kind"
Sometimes I wonder if the world's so small
That we can never get away from the sprawl
Living in the sprawl
Dead shopping malls rise like mountains beyond mountains
And there's no end in sight
I need the darkness, someone please cut the lights
They heard me singing and they told me to stop
Quit these pretentious things and just punch the clock
Sometimes I wonder if the world's so small
Can we ever get away from the sprawl?
Living in the sprawl
Dead shopping malls rise like mountains beyond mountains
And there's no end in sight
I need the darkness, someone please cut the lights
I need the darkness, someone please cut the lights
❤ thanks 🔆🎶

@@callumcc8897 Great story, mate! Nostalgia can be bittersweet :)
I feel like Win should've really explored the space with that Cowbell.

Amo essa música. Amo essa banda 😍 🇧🇷
Régine is Arcade Fire.
such a great performance by Régine
Her voice sounds so good in this.! Sometimes when Sprawl II is live her voice gets lost but this has the perfect balance!
Lollapalooza 2017 is probably my fave but yeah I think the vocal in this is better.
I was there at this very concert. One of the best festival performances I’ve ever seen.. unforgettable!
Mi favorita 😍

Friend of mine told me it’s their best song but idk about that
It’s a highlight and a strong end to The Suburbs album
👏🙂💛🖤🎤💛🖤🙂👏
Why are her vocals barely audible? Poor mixing.
regine, you are so cute
wow that's some terrible recording
Renee sounding a little pitchy, dog. I'm out.
