I have so much respect for Shannon. She refused to pose nude in cycle 1 and she stuck by her morals and convictions here. They said she's confused - no, she knows exactly who she is and what she believes. They are confused, since they don't understand the difference between underwear and swimwear.
They think it's about coverage; it isn't. It's about the clothes' purpose. It's crystal clear to all of us...
@@Joee003 I get what you're saying, I think to Shannon it's more than just about coverage, it's the significance/meaning behind the garments. I personally am not a conservative person, and wouldn't find an issue with wearing the lace shorts, but I will always advocate for respecting peoples boundaries and letting people wear what they feel comfortable in. It's all about the consent.

Most people would be more uncomfortable being seen in their underwear than a bathing suit. It comes down to consent. Typically people in bathing suits are consenting to people seeing their bathing suit. Underwear is typically not seen. It’s worn underneath our clothes so we don’t typically consent for people to see that item. It’s not that complicated ANTM 🤦🏼♀️
exactly! and even if someone's personal boundaries make no sense to you, it doesn't give you the right to violate those boundaries. You must respect peoples personal boundaries regardless of whether you agree. It's that simple. Just respect people.
I literally had this fight with a coworker. I told him that if he catches someone changing, that is NOT the time to stay there arguing "you wear less for the beach, blah blah blah!!!" in his mind everybody wears a thong or a string bikini, so what's the big deal???
I told him that the big deal is that bathing suits aren't usually see-thru.

AAAAAAAAAgh!!! As a former professional model it drives me bonkers when people don't understand where Shannon is coming from. It's not the level of nudity she's uncomfy with- it's the context! Bathing suits are made to be seen in public, while lingerie is not. Therefore, the only person who would usually see her in lingerie would be her husband.
I refused to pose topless because I hated the 'lads mag' style of modelling, but posed fully nude in the classical painting style. Most people understood the difference. Some photographers simply refused to, and got pretty nasty about it.

But I’ve seen swimwear cover less than underwear? Like I don’t mean to be mean or rude but I don’t understand, maybe because I’m not married but I have been with my bf for over a year and I would rather keep a certain percentage of my body covered regardless of context because seeing/knowing what my body looks like belongs only to my boyfriend and me. Like I would never wear just shorts and a sports bra to the gym, and I wouldn’t wear a bikini to the pool/beach.
@@Emo_SquirtleI understand why you'd be confused but I understand somewhat why the comfort level would be different. I feel like swimwear is often (but not always. Looking at you Kylie swim) double lined, not sheer, it stays in place well of it fits. Lingerie is just less *sturdy* it feels like less is covered even if the same amount of skin is showing. Posing in undies feels more vulnerable to me.

The outfit was chosen to get that response, and Jay either didn't know what she was wearing and was tipped off on how to confront her OR he was aware of her outfit specifically because it was planted to cause drama. If he had been asked about the top/pants/dress/accessory/etc of ANY of the other models prior to them walking out, I don't believe he would have known. But SOMEHOW, he was keenly aware of those lace bottoms.
Shannon’s boundary makes perfect sense, it’s so good she was mature enough not to be gaslit into believing she was being unreasonable. You wear a swimsuit to the beach, they’re made to be seen. You wear underwear in private, it’s made for you and your partner. Someone you’d be okay seeing at the beach walking in on you in your underwear would naturally still make you uncomfortable. There’s only a “double standard” when you wrongfully believe it’s about skin showing.
Exactly, I think Jay made the assumption it was about skin showing and being covered up but it was more an intimacy issue. Regardless if Jay 'understands' or not the show runners should have respected her wish.
if someone was in the office or an airplane or any other setting in a bikini, I would be equally uncomfortable as if in underwear because they are the same damn thing.
All Stars was more like a Black Mirror episode than a modelling show. It was just Tyra narrowing each girl down to one personality trait, then judging them based on how well they lived up to that label
It would be much better if the girls chose the concept based on what they want to show from their personalities
Also, if you look at the ratings, ever since All Star Cycle, the ratings are going down. Then, Tyra double down by giving social media score and also putting male models.
Putting social media score to modelling is just stupid because Tyra let the people who knows nothing about modelling to give vote! Those people only vote because they feel the picture is good or not in their eyes.And the worst part is, it all happened before the show even premiered so the models who has higher score on social media score always come out for having ugly personality on the show later. It's like looking at the menu on the restaurant and you see the picture of the menu looks good but when you taste the food, it's below your expectations.
And putting male models is just copying Big Brother or The Bachelor/ Bachelorete and those male models are mostly simping to female models and the show becomes "Who's sleeping with who?"
Cycle 16 is the peak of ANTM.
It’s just crazy how the judges would on one hand say “we’re teaching how to become models in the REAL world” but then also act like the predators in the real world trying to persuade models to wear under or shoot nude when they aren’t comfortable… so messed up

this def doesn't justify their actions but the actual modeling industry can be extremely predatory as well
it's very obvious the more morals and boundaries you have on ANTM, the more they're going to try and break you. Almost nobody was styled in underwear/bikinis, but Shannon is the one they knew would have a problem with that, so they constantly feel the need to call her bluff and she proves time and again she will not be moved.
Right? The other models get dresses, pants, gowns, skirts, shorts, etc. but with Shannon they're like "All we have is lingerie. Or what if you model nude, breasts to breeze?"
I would love to see a contest for Americas Next Best Photographer where multiple photographers shoot the same professional model to see who comes out with the best photograph. They have to work the stylist, set design, retouches, and give the model directions to see who best captures what the client wants.
Knowing reality TV though, they'd deliberately choose the worst pictures for some to make them look bad before eliminating them.
P.s. Sorry, this show has made me jaded.
She used to have a series where multiple photographers shot one model, obviously not a whole tv show but it was interesting to see

ANTM did personality and psychological evaluations to pick the best people to cause drama. And when there weren't any they cut the scenes to make it that way.
Antm really pushed the narrative that if you want to be a model you have to give up any boundaries or hang ups you may have and just be an avatar for the industry
While some of us can say “oh they knew what they were signing up for”, Lisa has been on podcasts and interviews where she said a lot of the girls were still working gigs and saw this as a good opportunity to get paid. When you live paycheck to paycheck, it’s hard to look at opportunities and be stingy. Plus, I’m sure they felt like since they’d been on and experienced it firsthand it might be easier, but no… production will always find a way to terrorize the girls.

The outfits the girls were wearing on live was MUCH MORE beautiful than the ones they were using in the actual photoshoot! It's insane that they themselves could style their outfits better than the people that are PAID to do that!
Concerning the booing that Alexandria got, I think it was real, and this is why. Her season had just happened (she was in season 16, and All-Stars was 17) and she got a REALLY bad edit. I watched all of the Oliver Twixt interviews with other girls from her cycle. All the girls said though she was a bit extra and annoying at times. but despite that they all liked her. They said that she was actually nice most of the time though, and their words were edited to make it looked like they all hated her. They would say things like "Alexandria is such a drama queen- but I love her." But the show cut out the "but I love her" part. If you remember how shocked Alexandria was when Brittani Kline went off on her, it was because she was shocked- the girls were friends. All the girls who were interviewed pretty much agreed that Alexandria got a terrible edit. With that being said, because she got the villian arc, I think a lot of people (myself included) did not like her at the time. And like I said, her season had JUST happened, so it was fresh in everyone's mind.

They did so many girls dirty--from how they cut the footage to the unrealistic challenges with which they presented them. I'm really happy for the ones who gamed the system and used the show for exposure and are now doing very well with their careers. They may not be "household names" like Naomi, Twiggy, Grace, Tyra, etc., but they are doing well.

Mr. Jay saying Shannon is “A little confused” in just such a patronizing way made me want to punch him. She articulated herself very clearly that it wasn’t about what was or wasn’t covered but that underwear/nudity is reserved for her husband. I don't understand why they are hell bent on making Shannon wear underwear. Also, love Shannon saying "my agency respects what I will and won't do." The returnees bring a level of meta awareness that what happens on the show doesn't reflect professional modeling.
That last part- I think about all the time with this show. That this statement should turn off anybody with some modeling experience, that this ain’t SOP in the actual industry.
Baby, Shannon talked with Adrienne about this one time actually! That they called her about All Stars and that it was going to be broader than just modeling & she was wanting to get into hosting on television. So she thought this would be a good opportunity to get into that line of work. They were fine with her not shooting in underwear and she told them that from the first call. If they had said that wouldn’t work for them, she would have backed out and there would have been no problem. The problem is she was brought there under false pretenses.
They really expect us to believe that they don't understand that she doesn't want to pose in underwear but does want a bathing suit 'cause the former is meant for UNDER YOUR CLOTHES AND THAT SHE WANTS TO KEEP IT PRIVATE?
Yeah I don’t think it’s about skin showing for her but they didn’t get that. Shannon sees the lacy panties as something intimate. It is a pretty well known thing that lingerie is meant for private time with a partner. Bathing suit bottoms are for the beach. That’s the difference.
She shouldn’t have to spell it out that you were swimwear out, you wear lingerie to bed. It’s not about how much it’s covering. She doesn’t want to put the “bedroom image” out there. For her, that’s the boundary. It’s simple.
Plus they "styled" her a in way she was never comfortable to begin with and leverage that bikini choice on her. They deliberately put her in that situation and then gaslighted her!!! And bringing that topic to live audience while everyone listens made me uncomfortable, it's not your business to question her boundaries. This show is on another level.

There’s a lot of money that you can make shooting lingerie so the fact her agencies still wanted her despite fewer options of what they’d send her to… means they had faith in her that she could still book.
Some of these women have a brand of how their known in the show. Shannon has a brand in the larger sense where she doesn’t pose nude. Kind of like Coco Rocha. If Coca Rocha posed naked I would be like “what happened?!” Tbh

Cycle 17 aired in 2011 and cycle 9 (which Bianca was on) aired in 2007. So only about 4 or 5 years but it probably feels like 10 years. They went through cycles so quickly.
I think they did two a year normally. I think survivor did the same but I'm not a survivor watcher
I remember watching this as it aired and being SO disappointed and underwhelmed by the shoots and low budget vibes, especially because this cycle was directly after the high fashion cycles

The Alexandra hate wasn’t planted, she was coming off the most insane season where they turned Alexandra’s every breath into an angry sigh… she would have been out there only a few weeks after the finale aired and people HATED her.
I think it's so interesting that Shannon was supposed to portray an innocent and "angelic" persona yet they wanted her to wear skimpy clothing and no pants: whether it was underwear or swimwear it wouldn't have made sense for the shoot in my opinion. Seems like they just wanted a dramatic moment where she refused to wear underwear so they could yell at her for it. And sure I agree that not wanting to wear underwear but being fine with a smaller swimsuit is pretty hypocritical, but the thing about boundaries is that they don't always make sense: you can't always explain why you're not comfortable with something, and you shouldn't have to! The models' boundaries should be respected even if they're contradictory because making your models feel safe and comfortable is more important than winning a stupid little debate about lace underwear.
I feel like it's not even hypocritical tbh. Like I wouldn't wear a dominatrix suit to my office even though it covers everything, you know?

No, shes right. A bathing suit and underwear are completely different. Some male swimming trunks are smaller than boxers, but tou dont wear boxers in public.

I had to pause at the Shannon part to say this. "You don't have to understand or even agree with my reasons for a boundary, you just have to respect them."
The reason the background is the same is that it was actually composed into a group shoot for the promotional images for the show- and yes, real fans of the show probably did yell at Alexandria because she was not received well by fans during her season because she was given the villain edit (but a very unlikeable one)
I haven't seen this show in a decade so I'm not sure what's changed. But it's so nice to see these accomplished, confident women who know their ability and worth. They no longer cower to the ridiculous, half-baked critique

They could have gone to walmart and find way way better clothes than they did for this photoshoot.

This season was the biggest letdown and disappointment in ANTM entire history and franchise. It was SO overly gimmicky, NONE of the challenges made any sense, the photoshoots weren’t elevated. It’s like you know Tyra was setting these girls up not to surpass her. The sad part is Bianca and Kayla were the ones that really got how the show wasn’t elevating them and they got booted instead of listened to. This could have been HIGH fashion, the girls had the talent and personalities, but instead it was a mess, including the finale and crowned finalist.
I've been waiting on you to review this one for sooo long because of the abuse Alexandria received. I may not remember everything from the show, but I do remember feeling terrible for Alexandria being bullied for just existing. They tried to make her seem like a bad person, and unlikable, but she never behaved in a way that warranted it. She deserved so much better. It reminds me of the even more HORRENDOUS transphobic abuse Isis experienced from the other contestants during a photoshoot. It sickened me. And Tyra just had to bring up her gender and body again in front of a huge crowd of strangers. Isis handled it like a rockstar, but she shouldn't have to. She seemed uncomfortable. Just treat her like the woman she is.
Well technically, Isis is still a man but is suffering from Gender Dysphoria and presents herself as a woman and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as she’s not a narcissistic SJW using the oppressed marginalized victim card to get away with anything. If anything, she was graceful

Molly was original suppose to do all stars but they said it would give away that she lost because this started filming a couple weeks before cycle 16 finale aired. According to interview Molly gave.

The underwear vs. bikini thing is about consent and the intention of the garment. Underwear is meant to be a private piece of clothing that most people have the reasonable expectation that it will not be seen in public except by accident or violation. Bikinis are something you put on with the intent to go to a public place in. This model has made a personal decision that she does not want to be an underwear model, for her own personal discomfort with herself in intimate attire being viewed by the public. Good for her for standing her ground and holding firm on her boundaries about her bodily autonomy and consent. It doesn’t matter if it shows less, it’s about the context of the garment, and the associated consent for public viewing of the garment on her body.
I had no problem posing nude for art classes. However, I would NEVER wear underwear out in public. I'm not an exhibitionist, fer fook's sake. Their reasoning is beyond bizarre. I admired Shannon's stance.😎
The location was the major problem for me, not the styling. I can’t imagine any photos would look great in such a bad location. They obviously had no money this season if they’re doing it in the back garden.
I’m sure there was somewhere in the garden that had a better background than that mess. In the water, or at nighttime, lit with harsh lights to give contrast or using different colour lights… anything more artistic or creative than this. These photos could have been taken by their friend by the pool. Not sophisticated or fashionable at all.
When I saw the first photo shoot then Brittany being the 1st eliminated for crap reasons I knew this cycle was going to be a mess 😂

There was cute tutu skirt on the rack that would have looked great instead of the lace panties but they just wanted drama. I bet they put down on their forms what they were not willing to do and they tried to choose things that would try to push those boundaries. The difference with this season and others is these girls are actually working in the industry now so they have nothing to loose.
I mean, my question is if the photo shoot was supposed to be representing the models style/career/persona, why would they even try to get her into something that she had clearly expressed makes her uncomfortable. Their idea failed & their stylist failed, it’s quite simple.

Even if Mr Jay thinks it's trivial it's important to Shannon, she is communicating to Mr Jay that she does not want to be in underwear and the show runners need to respect that.

Swimsuit and underwear have completely different energies behind them. I'd be fine in a swimsuit around people outside of my husband. Underwear? Not at all.
I feel bad for Bianca because this cycle was a mockery cycle. Bianca was working hard on her modeling career after her initial cycle (even Tyra acknowledged that) and she hoped the show would help increase her portfolio and get her foot into the fashion industry a lost faster and all it did was turn her into a bad reality tv star.
For return they get paid, at least much better than their original seasons. I don't think it is a lot, the information is hard to get because they get NDA of ten years in their contract. Anyone just getting by, not making big model money, and their age, if antm only paid them 500 a week, it's a nice pay out at the end.

I’m still mind blown why it’s such a big deal if she doesn’t want to wear underwear for photos. I personally wouldn’t want to wear underwear or panties for photos either let alone for other people to see.
Hell more power for the models that do wear those and lingerie for photos because I wouldn’t be comfortable myself, but at the same time they deserve respect if they don’t want to wear it either. 😵💫
I remember when the show first came out and as a young model myself at the time I was so excited about it. I then watched it and was so disappointed that they belittled the girls.
I was hoping it would be inspiring.
With Shannon it’s context and verbiage because as soon as the stylist said “panties” she changed her mind but she’s wearing the lace top. If they would’ve called it lounge wear or pajamas it could’ve been a different outcome. I don’t fault Shannon for her standing I just think this situation came down to semantics.
All of these women should be proud of who they are, and remember the brighter you shine. The more people will try to bring your shine down. By doing immature things by yelling names at you, etc. shine bright like a diamond all y'all.💫💞
They literally had so many options and many other models were wearing more clothes (short but not mini dresses, shirt and pants, things like that) and yet for "angelic" they went with a lingerie set? Ok. Try telling me it's not about pushing her boundaries and trying to cause drama
3:50 Jessica, with Bianca on her original season, she originally had Black and Red hair. However, the judges hated it and wanted to give her blond, but they ended shaving her head. But exactly, why are we going back to the past? Especially if they didn’t like it back then. And now as an adult, Bianca doesn’t like it. I think she was 18 her original season but yeah the judges were getting a reaction from these girls. It’s similar to Shannon and the underwear

There was a model in "Germany's Next TopModel" who quit the show and her mananger said to her after looking into her portfolio from the show, that all those photos are junk and she should throw them away. So yeah
the crowd booing and people swearing was definitely staged it is way too convenient that supposedly none of the judges heard it, but the microphones picked it up perfectly fine enough for the audience watching to hear it loud and clear.
The way jay said “I can do a bikini all the way now” felt really off to me.
Brittany wasn't going to make the content that Alexandria would so of course they got rid of her. And you nailed it on the head with the consent issue for Shannon. I know the ANTM people think they own these girls and their bodies but that is not the case, even when you're signed onto reality TV hell.
I feel like the only photo they could put in their portfolio from this season was the Express campaign photoshoot. It's the most commercial, I suppose. All the other photoshoots were gimmicks or used for "branding" purposes. Everything seemed so cringe-worthy, like production was really hamming it up for TV versus actually wanting to help the models with their careers. I still can't get over the music video episode. You honestly need to react to it. It feels like a fever dream. Tyra was soooooooo messy, I swear.
And they would not get the best photo or group of photos they'd be getting the one they use in the show. And you know they select for drama not necessarily the best one
Whether the person heckling was planted or not it’s still on the production for not finding and kicking out that person immediately and for painting Alexandria out to be a villain in both seasons.
Lisa being Lisa is always the best part of these episodes. Especially in the All-Star season after she already has a career and can afford to have zero f's to give.

You should watch season 22 episode 13 when they had Nyle who is deaf do a photo shoot in complete darkness and then gave him crap when his photo wasn’t up to there standards for him.
I saw that episode and I thought that was so awful and mean spirited. I felt so bad for him, it was totally unfair.

The way Shannon was staring at Jay when he was trying to pressure her to wear the underwear lol. She saw right through him and wasn't having it, and he was being so manipulative about this. His smile at the end too says he knows what just happened. She's so self-possessed in that scene. I think her experience modeling must also help her be this confident--she's not as vulnerable as someone new to the industry who can be tricked into thinking like this is the norm, you must adapt to it.

For me personally and in my culture, underwear bottoms that cover more or are a fabric that doesn't show skin would be considered the same as a bikini bottom that shows the same amount of skin. But then again that's a thing here and for me personally. Even if you don't understand people's personal boundaries, you should still respect them just the same. Not everyone is brought up with the same values, either in their family life or culturally. And that's a beautiful thing as well, when people can think differently and have conviction in that despite what someone else thinks. I have friends from all over the world that absolutely view my cultural upbringing as very liberal and they have very different ways of seeing what is and isn't acceptable for them, but we can still respect each other. I think in a professional environment that sentiment should be even stronger. Good for Shannon for not taking that bs and what a shame that it got her upset and disappointed in the experience. Frustrating to watch someone being pushed that way, even when they absolutely already knew what her boundaries were.
The Shannon thing pissed me off, it’s her principle and boundary, RESPECT it and stop pushing her!! It makes perfect sense but even if it didn’t, it’s HER BODY. Even if it was some goofy sht like I only pose in underwear if it’s green on a Tuesday upside down, that’s her prerogative.
