Weathertight Doors are primarily located above the waterline of the vessel. They are designed to prevent ingress of water from outside to inside. This generally includes a small head of water. Their main use is to prevent ingress of green seas into the space of the ship they are designed to protect.

Watertight doors are special types of doors found on the ships which prevent the ingress of water from one compartment to other during flooding or accidents and therefore act as a safety barrier. It limits the spread of water inside the vessel.

The waterline is the line where the hull of a ship meets the surface of the water. Specifically, it is also the name of a special marking, also known as an international load line, Plimsoll line and water line (positioned amidships), that indicates the draft of the ship and the legal limit to which a ship may be loaded for specific water types and temperatures in order to safely maintain buoyancy,[1] particularly with regard to the hazard of waves that may arise. Varying water temperatures will affect a ship's draft, because warm water is less dense than cold water, providing less buoyancy. In the same way, fresh water is less dense than salinated or seawater with the same lessening effect upon buoyancy.

LOADLINES also called plimsol line. It is a marking indicating the extent to which the weight of a load may safely submerge a ship.

A weathertight ship door or hatch is designed to withstand water pressure from one side (the outside). Typical locations where you will find weathertight closures are above the waterline, for example on the deck or in the wheelhouse of the ship. Weathertight doors or hatches are designed to withstand the weather conditions as found offshore. They can be submerged for a short period as would occur when hit by a standing wave. Classification is, in most cases, not required as weathertight closures are generally tested with a high-pressure hose, which is directed at the seal. This test is also performed before the sea trial.

Weathertight doors: These are doors which you can find above the ship water lines (poop decks, forecastle, etc. ). They are meant to seal the accommodation or compartment from ingress of water or flooding during bad weather.

Weathertight Doors are principally situated over the waterline of the ship. They are intended to keep entrance of water from outside to inside. This by and large incorporates a little head of water. Their primary use is to forestall entrance of green oceans into the space of the boat they are intended to ensure.

They are meant to seal the accommodation or compartment from ingress of water or flooding during bad weather. If you have been on-board ship during rough weather, you will understand that these doors are really doing a greater work of defending the wind force from flooding the accommodation. Than “pirate protector” as called by a crew. In resent age, the weather tight doors are designed in such a way it saver as a means of protecting the crew and ship from pirates hijackings. But the main purpose of the doors are because of the weather.

LOADLINES -ship’s waterline is the line where its hull meets the surface of the water. A load line, also called Plimsoll mark,1 is a marking indicating the extent to which the weight of a load may safely submerge a ship, by way of a waterline limit. It is positioned amidships on both sides of a vessel’s hull and indicates the draft of the ship and the legal limit to which a ship may be loaded for specific geographical areas and seasons of the year. The purpose of the load line is to ensure that a ship has sufficient freeboard (the height from the waterline to the main deck) and thus sufficient reserve buoyancy (volume of ship above the waterline). It should also ensure adequate stability and avoid excessive stress on the ship’s hull as a result of overloading. Ships intended for the carriage of timber deck cargo are assigned a smaller freeboard as the deck cargo provides protection against the impact of waves.

Damage Control Plan - a plan showing clearly for each deck and hold and boundaries of the watertight compartments, the openings therein with the means of closure and position of any control thereof, and the arrangements for the correction of any list due to flooding. The primary purpose of damage control central (DCC) is to collect and compare reports from various repair stations to determine the ship's condition and the corrective action to be taken. The damage control plan and booklet are intended to provide ship’s officers with clear information on the ship’s watertight subdivision and equipment related to maintaining the boundaries and effectiveness of the subdivision so that, in the event of damage to the ship causing flooding, proper precautions can be taken to prevent progressive flooding through openings therein and effective action can be taken quickly to mitigate and, where possible, recover the ship’s loss of stability.

It limits the spread of water inside the vessel. These doors are used onboard in many ships such as in the fore and aft passageways underdeck and in engine room bulkheads leading to shaft tunnels in container vessels, large passenger ships, offshore vessels, oil exploration vessels.

A weathertight doors is designed to be located on the deck of a ship/boat above the waterline, where they can be subject to the adverse weather conditions experi- enced offshore. Weathertight doors are also designed to withstand brief submersion experienced from green seas.
