  • Michigan State reaches the Final 4 for the first time in the Tom Izzo era and its first since 1979, when Magic Johnson led the way. Morris Peterson finished the game with six straight free throws in the final minute to close out the game, and Michigan State beat defending national champion Kentucky, 73-66 in the Midwest Region final.
The Spartans fell behind early, 19-6, and dominated thereafter, having to hold off a furious late-game push by the Wildcats, who had won 2 of the previous 3 national championships.
Mateen Cleaves finished with 10 points, 11 assists and 4 rebounds.
AJ Granger finished with 14 points.
