I get stuck in a rut on the sofa, and can't get motivated to do even the things I enjoy, things I should do, things I absolutely need to do, things that should have been done yesterday, last week, ... and sew on! 😹 Thanks for the much needed kick in the rut.
sweetie! SAME THING HAPPENED WITH ME! I FEEL YA! i lost my job during the pandemic too. tried to find a full time job but it was not happening. so when i turned 63, i filled for early retirement last year. i started a business but i am still seeking part time employment. but i took up sewing and i tell you, it has helped me mentally. it keeps me creatively motivated and happy. i love to create things and make beautiful things. so i am hanging in there with the sewing. so i feel ya sweetie! keep on doing what you love in sewing!! it's a beautiful thing i was an Office Services Coordinator for a real estate firm here in Atlanta. Would i go back to it? NO!! LOL!!
I was in shock and depressed for a couple of days and then I decided I had plenty of time to sew! I’m back working for the same law firm, but on my terms so I still have time to make sewing videos!
So glad I found you. I'm 72, retired, gained weight....ie dumpy figure.....in the 40 years I didn't sew. Trying to figure out fitting the casual things I want to wear.....love style Arc. Cannot wait to tune in to the bag make.❤
well, i am a retired 63 year old single woman with no kids and i took up sewing back in january (i haven't sewed since high school and it is the one main thing i wanted to get back into) my boyfriend brought me a Singer Sewing machine for Christmas and i FREAKIN LOVE IT!! i Design and Create canvas tote bags and make up pouches (i have several videos here on youtube) and i wanted to incorporate sewing into my creative process and it's the most wonderful thing i ever done. now i look at lots of fabric videos and i am having the time of my life!
and i have come to the conclusion that this is a journey. i just learned how to make an infinity scarf, i made some dresses (using shirred fabric thanks TH-cam) but the journey is fun and don't be afraid to make mistakes! it's part of the learning process.
Nice. I'm a retired lawyer and, ironically, I sewed more when I was practicing law and a single mom than I do now that I'm retired and the kids are grown - I think b/c I was motivated to sew Halloween costumes, etc., for them. Hoping to get into it again - now that my (26 yr. old) daughter is showing an interest. I gave her an old machine and we made pillow shams together this past weekend. She's into cosplay and has a Simplicity pattern chosen that she wants to make... so we'll see! I really appreciate your channel - including the discussion of your errors which makes me feel not so alone. ;)
When I went to law school I packed up all of my sewing things. That almost broke my heart. Thankfully I’m back at it regularly. That’s the benefit of having a sewing channel on TH-cam-I HAVE to sew to make videos 🤣. You will get the hang of it again. I have a bunch of cosplay patterns. I love making costumes but I don’t have a reason to wear them as much as regular clothes.
Just what I needed! My last project was a semi fail and since then I have not been able to sit down and actually sew again. My problem is fitting, gained weight and nothing seems to fit. I decided not to sew anything until losing weight, but it is taking ages..:: Semi retired lawyer here too!
Sewing is much better than lawyering 😉 you can get the hang of it! When I’m working on losing weight I choose a boxy style that will still be cute when the weight comes off.
Thank you for your video. I started my sewing journey as self-care and an outlet. I’m a psychotherapist and sometimes with all of the things I hear on a daily basis and have to keep confidential, I had to find a healthy outlet. Sewing is soothing for me. I enjoy your videos.
Hey, Toni - you mentioned pants and crotch curves being so difficult. Have you tried the Top Down Center Out method of pants fitting? Omg, it was a game changer for me. I finally managed to make a pair of pants that didn’t look like an ugly sack. The Crooked Hem has the best tutorial series I’ve found, and it’s also in the summer edition of Threads magazine (I think that was the issue) that the system creator wrote. That might be a good series.
I have never heard of that method! I will have to check it out. Thanks for the tip. The only pants I’ve made since college were too big for me but fit my sister perfectly. I’m working up my nerve to try pants this year 😂
This is great timing. I have analysis paralysis and just need to start. And, give myself permission to be imperfect 😊I’m signed up and looking forward to next Saturday!
I dont know where you have been, only found you this morning! You are truly awesome. So helpful and practical. Easily relatable. Watching your great videos now, catching up, thank you for clear instruction and common sense approach.
thanks you. I worked really hard on a top putting in french seams. I put it on and it looked terrible on me. To alter it would take too much work so I am going to hem it and donate it. I will get rid of that pattern too. Facing reality. this happens to all of us.
I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles. I've only put French seams in a pillow case. I can't imagine going through that process and not having it fit. Sending you a big hug ❤
Thank you. Question about the pattern/dimensions. Is the seam allowance in addition to the dimensions on the pattern or is the seam allowance included? Thanks!
Marilyn, check your device settings. You may need to adjust the audio and toggle on mono, so the sounds plays in both ears. I'm not sure why my editing software uploaded my stereo files in mono. My apologies for the inconvenience.
Hi. Just want to mention that somethings wrong with your video. I do watch videos mostly with headphones. And mostly with just one ear to have another ear listening to my newborn. So I couldn’t hear anything. On the right side. I wondered and tested the left ear headphone and sound is correct. Means the sound is in mono, not in stereo. Otherwise…. Great video 🎉
Thanks for letting me know Jana. I have no idea how the sound is in mono. I’ll have to look into that. For a temporary fix, you can go into the audio setting of your device and turn on mono audio so the same thing plays in both ears.

Sometimes I get in that rut too. This video is the same pep talk I give myself 🤣 glad that it could help you.

Hi, I've been a member of Overeaters Anonymous for 49 yrs, its a wonderfully supportive program that may be of help.
It's okay to gain weight ❤ just take care of your body
"Skirts are always the answer." I love it :)
I’m glad to know you share my philosophy 😉

Sewing has made a huge difference in my life too! Glad to hear that you are getting back into it and having such a good time ☺️

This was a wonderful pep talk. I’ve sewed off and on but I really want to work on making garments that fit me comfortably.
Aww thank you for watching. Glad that you enjoyed it. I watch it myself when I need a pep talk 😉

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. Whenever I'm feeling stressed out I find that sewing always makes me feel better. ❤

I’m so glad my pep talked helped you! Glad that you will be at the sew along ❤️
Thank you for all this great advice. I love the ‘15 min’ blocks. Sometimes I bite off more than I can chew, then I end up with a mess
You’re welcome. I'm so grateful you're here! And I do the same thing 🤣
Lovely inspiring chat....thank you! I needed that!
You are so welcome! Glad the it helped you ❤️

I’m so glad that you found me! Thank you for your comment-it totally made my day ❤️
Hey I made a patch bag, actually 4 of them, with 2 inch patches because I have so many scraps. Will watch your tutorial too. they make great gifts.
That's awesome. The sewing along was just inspired by the patchwork bag, but I'm just going to be using a solid piece of fabric.
Great pep talk! Thanks for your honesty. Love and enjoy your Chanel.
Awww, thank you. I just wanted to let everyone know that self-doubt and lack of motivation happens to me too. Thanks so much for your comment ❤
Thank you for the pep talk, really needed it.
You are welcome ❤️
Great video! Sometimes we can be so hard on ourselves. I'm registered for the sew-along--is it going to be at 3pm Houston time? I'm excited!
It's 2pm Houston time. I just sent out the welcome email with all of the details. If you need any more info, please let me know 😊
Thanks for Sharing ❤
You’re welcome! ☺️

I signed up for the sew along. Will you send us a list of supplies we need?
Yes! I’m getting it together and I’ll send it out tomorrow along with a welcome email. I need to measure the fabric for the project.
Suzanne, I just sent the welcome email; please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you. Question about the pattern/dimensions. Is the seam allowance in addition to the dimensions on the pattern or is the seam allowance included? Thanks!
@@Suzeequ a 1/2” seam allowance is included in the pattern. I need to add an instruction page with that additional info!
❤
Thanks Monica ❤️
Appreciate you! I have a question about the stretch ruler with % displayed.Where did you purchase this?
shopstitchbuzz.etsy.com/?coupon=SEWSEWLOUNGE25
I got it from Stitch Buzz. Here is the link with a discount code!
Oh no your video was silent and I so needed to get that pep talk
Marilyn, check your device settings. You may need to adjust the audio and toggle on mono, so the sounds plays in both ears. I'm not sure why my editing software uploaded my stereo files in mono. My apologies for the inconvenience.

Thanks Karrie ☺️
