A final goodbye to Nantes

Bell & I lived in Nantes, arriving separately in September & then December respectively. By our departure on the last day of January, we had made Nantes into a home. Growing pains, grumblings about the ever constant gloomy overcast, finding long-term housing, stained Bell’s first month. By the time I stepped off the train a couple months later, Bell had familiarized the city. Thanks to her, I quickly became accustomed to Nantes, our new home.
Nantes works. Nantes is not the city for the tourist, nor should it be. Nantes is solely constructed for its residents, as it should be. A timely affordable public transportation network, a functioning airport with affordable flights to most major cities, a bountiful restaurant scene offering street meats for Charles to more refined diner locations for dates, numerous grocery stores, a small web of museums perfect for entertaining visiting relatives on the weekends.
Use the trams, abuse them. Park yourself in the parcs, waste away within them. Lose your way in Centre-ville’s labyrinth. Run, race the buses across the bridges over La Loire. Nap under the sky of the planetarium. Reflect whispering in a cimetière. Do not go to Nantes unless you’re willing to allow boredom to amuse you. Be polite & patient to her. I loved Nantes.
I want to emphasize we were still tourists on the day we left. We are not experts in Nantes history nor culture. Our video should only serve as a starting point, a kickstarter, and no more. Visit the tourism office for more in-depth information when you visit.
