Brian, don't you think that Filipinos in the province have a different mindset from city Filipinos or most westerners. We spend most of our money to pay for food, and the expenses of shelter. Just imagine how cheap living in Philly would be if you didn't pay rent or mortgage, you had no utilities, most of your food was free and you didn't need heating or a/c. Why would you work a 40hr a week job when you could work a few hours to buy your other needs? We are trapped because we think we must have all the luxuries of life to live and the province people are more free in some ways than we are. Most of us would not be happy if we lived the lifestyle of a province Filipino because we are spoiled. lol I understand why people who are impoverished by western standards can be so happy. They don't have the worry of paying the debt of luxury living. Enjoyed the video! Phil
Brian: Twinkles is the ultimate mascot at the Philly 215 Homestead. Your holding him so comfortably as you do makes one helluva great colorful screenshot of you two! Thank you for sharing your province lifestyle and adventures with Lot and your lovely extended family.
One thing about the Philippines is that there is no urgency . No one is ever going to freeze to death no one is going to starve in the province when everybody has chickens. throw out a few seeds and you have a year round garden. walk around and find some coca-nuts or bananas or go to the ocean cast a net and you have fish. The province is a homesteaders dream.
In my 3 years of living in Cebu province . I see so many young men and women just chillin i ask them if there any work they say yes ! But they want better pay to work. They say everything is on contracts 6 months or less. Like this video the content is great. We’ll be back in Cebu in march
Or ulam. Was in my Filipina’s remote home barangay in Southern Leyte. Walking along the main road one day, a chicken ran out onto the road and got cleaned up by a truck. A local villager dashed out onto the road, picked up the flattened chicken and off he went home. I politely (and naively) asked my Filipina if the man was the chicken’s owner. She said no, he just got his family some ulam for dinner!
At one point I was a fishing boat captain and my best time was when I was a Free Lance Captain made great money and had total freedom to work for who and when were I wanted to work. I was fishing running a boat on my terms and when I wanted to work. We need to put the world famous Twinkles on the back of a paso coin. 😊
It is a way of life all over the world. Even in the USA there are people who hustle and work all the overtime they can get. And some who are watching the clock waiting for Friday to come so they can drink and party. Then when they are 60 they wonder why they don't have anything. Just like you left Angeles city to move there it was a choice, but you seem happy.
I grew up poor in a very upper middleclass area of Western PA . Food was often an issue. Sometimes we would find a fruit tree in an old farm. We would bring home as much as we could carry. I learned how to be thankful as a young boy.
A good video I enjoyed it my friend happy to see everyone is happy too bad he can't get disability in the Philippines maybe someday keep on having fun and be self everyone all my best Ramon 😊
Those roosters need Philadelphia Mobster names: Skinny Joe Merlino, Angelo Bruno, Chicken Man Testa, which is quite appropriate, Harry the Hunchback Riccobene, who had an interesting story. Someone had put a hit on him and he was shot multiple times, he decided to drive himself to Pennsylvania Hospital. We had a few people in my neighborhood growing up like that. I remember one guy who survived by asking people for empty bottles, which he collected 2 cents each deposit at the corner stores, the Philly style Sari-Sari. Seems like they were always run by retired Philly cops 😂!
being a person who grew up extra poor in a city and then much later in life working at a homeless shelter I'd say that some people choose that while others wish for more but are contented with what they got.... still others have even less because of addictions or mental illness
I live with no pets but with Team Bachoy, they are great. And I did panick with this as I thought young Oliver was wandering off as he is still too little. R.I.P. Big Al. But good to see Twinkles developing and yeah, he needs a serious name when he becomes Number #1. I think poverty can be a lifestyle choice for some. Maybe his (the carpenter uncle) thoughts may change as he gets older and life gets tougher and he needs to secure his retirement
Had the same thought as Don B, Twinkles is the 215 Mascot, and should never fight. He should keep his name too, maybe just add to it: Twinkles "the boss" Morgado Twinkles Three Toes Twinkles Carbone Tony Twinkles, etc. 😉👌 Also, when he was talking he was trying to tell you his favorite films are 'Lord of the Wings' and some 'chick flicks', and his favorite composer is 'Bach! Bach! Bach!' 🐓🙉🤫😹
Obviously I haven’t had a good 365* look at your property, but I’d be concerned about flooding at the base of a hill. One good typhoon and millions of gallons could quickly be upon you. Other than that, thanks for the continued updates and entertaining videos. I watch both you and Lot’s channels as often as possible. Which unfortunately is 2 days each week, my off days.
Hey Brian, Who wacked Al. Which chicken is missing two talons, that's the guilty party. Hahahaha. With what you were talking about how Filipinos work for themselves. Everytime I'm in the Philippines to visit my wife and family I'm always impressed at how people seem truly content most of the time, even if they are having a rough time they still genuinely smile, their eyes smile, and the eyes are the windows to a persons soul. Everytime I'm there, it blows my mind how even the people that are living on the streets and have very little as personal possessions always have a smile to give. And I think I might have figured it out. It's because Filipinos know what it's like to not have anything and find contentment with that. They aren't so much about the rat race that we in North America strive to be a part of. For Filipinos it seems that as long as they have their families around them, food to eat, even small amounts of food, they have total appreciation for it and know how it can be worse, but are grateful it's not. My wife is originally from Bicol, but they moved to Mandaluyong when she was 9 because Dad worked in Mandaluyong and would come home each weekend to see his family and bring the money he earned home for his family. His jobs in Mandaluyong then provided a bed, food, and washroom that was shared with fellow workers, but he was happy because he was doing what he could do to take care of his family. Mom worked to, in fact she still works at 72, because she enjoys her job as a self made Real Estate sales person, she started doing that about 10 years after they moved from Bicol. When I go to the Philippines and see my married family, they are always grateful, appreciative, and loving each other, even when they argue. From what I can see about Philippine Culture, Filipinos are generally happy people no matter what is happening. And it seems as though that happiness is because of being much more content than North Americans who have more and are never satisfied with what they have, whereas Filipinos, are satisfied as long as they have rice, some meat or fish, and water, sometimes veggies or fruit but most importantly, they have community no matter how big or small where they live is. Thanks for a great video about culture in the Philippines. Many foreigners don't get the life there unless they are immersed in it through marriage or extended vacations there and truly experiencing the culture. Cheers, see ya next video Matt - Toronto, Canada
Matt, you are so right! Filipinos have a different approach to life. I’m happy I get to share some of that perspective with you. Thanks for the great comment. 👍
@@PhillyinthePhilippines Hey Brian, Your channel helps to keep me in touch with a country I absolutely love and people that I adore just because. I know you get that. Sounds like my woman's dad. Always doing something for self-employment that provides nothing more than survival income. Why? I try to think the best. No way! Lot is an animal loving fanatic (that's a good thing).
I got a suggestion for the mature name for Twinkles. Since he soon will be Godfather how bout Big Paul in honor of Paul Cassetll
My internet in CDO cut out just as I suggested Big Paul Castellano who was wacked by John Gotti in '85 in front of a steak house.
So when you going to name one Sammy the Bull ?
Saving that name for when a chicken rats out the other chickens!
