This song is about fearmongers, who try to spread words of fear among people, message is not to let fear get to you, and live your life with some beauty instead, Floor said this was one of the hardest songs to learn on album, as you easy can stumble on the words. i listened to the whole album several times, in start i thought it was great, now i think its a masterpiece!! it just keeps getting better each listen.
Thanks for sharing your insightful reaction to a song that gets better & better with each listen, which is something that defines greatness in songwriting. The composer, Tuomas Holopainen, has said that this song is his take against all the fear mongering that plaugues main stream media these days. For me it's a form of mind control to keep the masses of ordinary people in line with official narratives of the ruling class.
Tuomas, with the eyedrops, almost like a clockwork automaton. A long list of MSM fears. Floor loves a challenge. "In this grave new world of '84" [Aldous Huxley, George Orwell] Liked the reference to London: "Horse waste covering London Martians among us, Y2K ["They Live!"] Hoard, all aboard, the end is near!" [Preppers] The childrens choir of hope. Emppu looks the most scared! More déjà vu moments. "Sandman" [Metallica concert, that Tuomas went to as an exchange student, TGSOE] "So many times passed the due date" [Mayan calendar, 2012? Or food, with the "sell by" date?]
Last single from Yesterwynde is so good: Lanternlight.
Gotta listen asap!
