The knowledge a child has of being so incredibly successful at such a young age clearly results in a self-confidence that's unequaled in most endeavors by people of any age group. If only children all over the world could get this kind of personal and moral guidance and training, the world would be so different. I watch them (and King's Choir and several others) in disbelief of what a young mind can achieve.
I had the pleasure of singing services at St.Pauls Cathedral as a countertenor from the US. I have such respect for these boys, and some envy. It is a difficult building to sing well in, so much reverberation, it takes some getting used to. But, what a place. Our boys in Grand Rapids have been fortunate to replicate this experience somewhat. Of course it is volunteer, no permanent Cathedral, etc. But, with unbelievable fortune to have Dr. Martin Neary(Westminster Abbey) Andrew Nethsingha(St. John's College, Cambridge) and most recently Matthew Owens (Wells Cathedral) to come to the US and help us with this most honorable tradition. It has been the joy of my life to perform this music, in this manner. What a National treasure the UK has in it's several fine Choirs. Hopefully, it will be cherished always.
I'm sorry that your choir has gone down to be a volunteer choir without a permanent home. Indianapolis had funding but I heard that our tradition was destroyed a year or two ago by radical leftists. We went on tour a few years back and yes, Saint Paul's was pretty terrible for acoustics. The mothership in Canterbury was nice to sing in and one of our men was hired there and sang for a few years himself. Our time in residence at York Minster and Winchester was nice too. Most all of them were nice to us. I hope you can keep our tradition alive.
Such eloquence. Such nearly adult personalities (the teachers are probably saying "OH if you only knew!"). Yet you English are so self-critical about everything. These children are superb speakers, and light years ahead of our public (state in UK terms) schools in the U.S. (with a few exceptions, very few).
These children do not represent the average UK child. This is a selective Prep school for musically gifted children. Most of these boys come from the professional middle classes who value education highly. There is nothing wrong with that of course, however, some would say this is a school for the elite.
Some of our American cathedrals had men and boys choirs, although not all had choir schools. National Cathedral did, but Indianapolis did not. Radicals destroyed the Indianapolis program because it had an endowment so I understand they are gone now. Yes, American Cathedral choirs had bright children and yes, they were held to very high standards just as English boys were. SJWs have been seeking the destruction of traditional organizations for several years now and the outlook is not good for their survival.
It is great, no one in the Men and Boys Choirs is trying to deny this experience. It might help to understand the extremely long tradition of these Choirs, and the fact the composers have written specifically for these voices. Unless you are a male, who has experienced this tradition, it might be difficult to understand what it does for the boys in their lives. I'm glad girls have the chance to sing the music as well, but the male only choir must continue to thrive.
Remember that the same people who endeavoured to burn down cathedrals in France, also attack choral traditions like these choirs. These groups need your support in order to survive the attacks on their existence.
There appears to be an international aspect to the activities of the Choristers: at 0:29 the chap is holding a baseball. And it's not a softball; it's a hardball!

Amazing! These young students are better spoken and seem more responsible than many adults I've met.

Are there cathedral choir schools where girls can learn to raise their voices to praise God?
Great, but would be more meaningful if you had mentioned God, no matter how tangentially (since choristers presumably serve God).
Very true
