Great interview. A lot of my left leaning Deadhead friend’s heads would explode listening to this, but it’s true, Tucker is a Renaissance Man in a lot ways.
Tucker mentioned the Dead’s studio albums…I beg to differ on his opinion, as a few of those albums are great. Working Man’s Dead and Aoxomoxoa are a couple of my favorites.
I agree with you. Actually, I really like all the studio stuff. But Tucker's right when he says that the studio material is "weird and doesn't really sound like the Dead". I know what he means. The Dead would lay down the general movement of a song in studio, but it would develop a life of it's own through live performance. The Other One and China Cat are great examples of how different and how much better the songs became after some stage-time.
@svictor7573 Some people love Tucker for his views, some hate him. Division Tucker has sowed. The rise of popularity of these opiniated journalism has caused much division and intolerance in America. Music is something EVERYONE can relate to, love. Here I am a hardcore Chicago Teamster and this guy is my complete opposite. How cool it would be if we never discussed politics, political parties and only focused on the fact that. .without the bass guitar it's elevator music ?
While I agree that any good band should have a bassist, I've got an 8 string Ibanez tuned to drop G with a Whammy octave pedal (after the noise gate/distortion sandwich) that dives it another 2 octaves lower. That said, I could, with my current amp stack, blow the windows and eardrums of anyone driving within three blocks of my house. So even though more than 90% of bass guitars are playing 4 octaves above me, a bassist is super important, otherwise you lose the melody of the song.

A great example of what Tucker is speaking of can be seen on several youtube channels where young, hip-hop and pop music enthusiasts listen and react (for the first time) to recording artists such as Led Zeppelin, Rush, Pink Floyd, Elton John (and virtually most music from the 20th century) and then comment on their experience. Most CANNOT BELIEVE what they just heard. The skill and passion from these musicians and songwriters are just too much for them. The emotions they evoke in these kids will bring tears to your eyes, (it did to theirs) especially if you grew up during the 1970's and 80's (as I did) and ESPECIALLY if you're a musician--as I am. They are dumbfounded as to why they’ve never been exposed to this kind of music. It's not all their fault. Music and songwriting programs are all but lost within today's public school systems, leaving youngsters to their own digital devices, learning a craft that truly takes a lifetime of persistence and practice to master its artistry. These "old-school" offerings were created by REAL MUSICIANS playing REAL INSTRUMENTS by ACTUAL HUMAN BEINGS. I know, it's quite a shock. As a drummer, I'm particularly amused when one of these participants hears John Bonham's thundering two-bar drum intro into Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" and stops the song in utter confusion on how that "hip-hop beat is on a track supposedly recorded 50 years ago". Nope--it's just the most sampled drum track of all time, recorded and engineered by the late/great Andy Johns, and played by master drummer, the late John Bonham. Guess what, kids? Both were actual human beings who took the time needed to master they're artistry and craft. They PAID THEIR DUES--something foreign and basically unheard of with today's younger generation. I've always said sports are for those who can’t play drums and Garageband are for those who CAN’T PLAY.

lol, he's not a moron bud
@@lasagna3106 Who said he was a moron? Just morally bankrupt.
@@lasagna3106 Also, if you support Trump, you support the insurrection which is Anti-democratic and anti-American.
More like Brain Dead Head. His entire career is the antithesis of the message the Grateful Dead spread to the world. No matter what clothes he wears, concert's, he just doesn't get it. Happy he enjoys the music, it's his freedom to do that, but he doesn't understand what it is. It's about love, not propaganda and fear mongering, turning people against their neighbors and filling them with a sense of idealogical superiority.
lmao what is the message of the Dead? if you knew ANYTHING about Jerry you'd know he never wanted anything ideological attached to the band. imagine thinking you can control who can and can't be a deadhead. absolute midwit.
Sorry buddy but Tucker is crushing the mainstream media big-tech funded propaganda put on by our federal government
Oh the irony of this comment.
Less racist then expected.
That is because he is not racist. Don't be chump and think for yourself.
Well its than but I wouldn't except you to know the difference
@@AGoat1971 Some people are just so indoctrinated by what MSM has spoon fed them for years. Me, I do my own research and never take anything at face value. Which is why I like metal, it's mostly not sugar coated, straight up truth. 🤘
Tucker, with your bow tie, you were never cool. You are a “Never Has Been - Never Will Be”. Face it dude 😂
Let me guess: SJW.
I'm sure with his 15 mill a year salary, successful career, loving family he really cares what you think
Top rated show for years. So how you doing
Bring back the bow tie! 😍

He’ll need those $$$ after FOX goes under & he goes into hiding to avoid being sued like the rest of them 😉
If you play it backwards, it's subliminal messages! Just kidding, he just says it straight out to your face and your sad asses eat it right up. 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
Interesting that he thinks movies tell you how to feel but music does not?
Donna ruined the Grateful Dead. Awful singer.
