- This is a side-by-side comparison of the Duluth trading Company Louie and Karl Lunchbox. I posted this because there isn't any real reviews on these coolers and also to give everyone a heads up on the $7.99 refund they charge you for returning items. I had to order both to see which one I like the best. So here is the review.
I own both lunchboxes, the louie I love but is kind of small, just got the Karl yesterday and is huge, can't wait to use it

UPDATE: As of Aug 1 2017 this bag is still just as strong as when I got this new, I get compliments from Co workers saying they like the "toolbox "look. Afternoon months of stuffing this bag with lots of food n drinks . I am happy with this .The insulation does keep food and drinks cold or hot all day. It is tough ,good matieral,stitching and zippers are all excellent quality . This is my REAL REVIEW!
I think I've decided on the karl for my husband. He's a truck driver so I need to pack a lot! Thanks!
The 7.99 is for a smart label. So you have a choice of paying 7.99 for the return label or pay for your own return shipping.
Hi thanks for the review! I've been wondering about their lunch boxes! Actually though I've returned stuff a bunch for different reasons (stuff I was trying out), and there's no year time limit, and the $7.99 is only if you use their return "smart" label, which covers the shipping.

You've got the $7.99 confused. The Duluth paperwork clearly states if you use the Smart Label. It's the cost of return shipping. It's also not 1 year, it is for the life of the item, AFIAK. I just sent a 3 year old item back and they sent me a brand new one...

I have a Karl, but need a new one now. After 3 years the main zipper(s) has failed.
Well now, I don’t use this as an every day lunch bag. I use it for weekend trips with the family. The zipper is tough though. For being three years old, it’s a wide zipper so it’s pretty durable

I just saw that online / that thing is a beast !! It's like a big insulated "Man"bag. Get one and do a review on it ! It's priced at 99 bucks. But geez mine is manageable that thing (food lunch truck)would be perfect for a whole day at the lake or mountain.
The $7.99 was to use the conveinance label to ship back I believe. That should include shipping with using their label, no?

Do you find the top part collapsing down to the bottom half of the bag? Some are experiencing difficulty with opening and closing the zippers, both top and bottom, but mainly the bottom part because of weight from the top compartment weighing down on itself.
The zippers are great, the top doesn’t collapse much, but if you pack this thing it ain’t gonna sag. It’s durable for sure.
I bought the louie for my fiancee, I thought about getting the karl but our workplace has a limit on the size bag you can bring in. I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind taking the time to answer them for me.
Does the louie have the same amount of pockets as the karl?
You didn't open the louie to show how many things you could fit inside of it, is it approximately the same size as an average lunch box?

Wylie Mayer - Sounds like you work in a jail or something LOL. But joking aside , it is the size of an average lunch box. It has he same exact pockets. The Louie is iterally is the Jr size to the Karl. I do enjoy it , I have been been enjoying it for about 1 week now. The shoulder strap is strong and it's anchor points have a durable hold on the bag. Any other questions feel free to ask.

I just got the Louie Lunch Box, it looked bigger in the Duluth video. I'm selling it to a co-worker, because it's just too small and I'm ordering the Karl tonight. I don't like it, because it's just a tad too small. My 1.5 liter Dasani water bottle almost takes up the entire bottom compartment.
Yeah it’s tiny , maybe for a peanut butter sandwich and a juice box .. I still use the karl EVERYDAY and the zippers are still strong and the shoulder strap and threading is still strong .. good to hear you are ordering the Karl .. Post a comment to get your opinion on it 👍
I got this bag two years ago and I was pretty happy until last week. The zipper broke on the top part of the bag. For what I paid for you would think that they would last a little longer and it was not used every day. I am pretty disappointed, a lot of the reviews have stated that the zippers always break. I didn’t listen to the reviews of other consumers and took a chance. Now here I am warning everyone that if you buy this lunch bag you will end up buying another in two years or less.

Daniel Mc - yeah so I have to apologize . I'm new at posting and I felt I had to do a "Rookie Review" since the circumstances of the bags not being available online other than direct from the DLT.. I hope someone can get one and do a measurement review of it.. I turned mine back and haven't received my credit yet.. it's been 2 weeks. Lolll.. so I have to apologize. But over all the LOUIE a small bag..
You were better off keeping the product. I LOVE my Louie lunchbox. You should've given it to your kid instead. It really is a great product. But the Karl... dang. You are serious about your meals.
I had the Louie lunchbox for 8 years and it still looked like new. I made the mistake of giving it away. I am now re-buying it at a higher price. This bag is built for a lifetime. I've also seen the Karl up close. I'd say the Louie is good for those who work 8-10 hour shifts and the Karl is good for those who often work 12-16 hour shifts. You can pack a LOT in each of them.
Yeah as of now it’s in the closet. I thought about giving it away but I’m gonna bring it out when we need it. Long trips on the road, beach etc.... So it’s a champ alright. People have complained here about the zippers but they’re made tough and this one is still going strong

I have the karl. Ripped inside. I emailed about a replacement. They gave a bunch of Bull because I have a different bank account now. Way over priced..... Done with Duluth.
