The Swedish BT-42 is one of the goofiest rat tanks in War Thunder. It's just a BT-7 with a howitzer on it, but it's so much fun.

I love the fact that the Girls und Panzer community did a crowdfunding to pay for a roof to protect the last BT-42
Well they actually saved the tank and helped refurbish it to prevent it from being abandoned and rusting to death
Not just the BT-42 but all of the vehicles the museum had that was located outdoors

5:50 there’s an annoying feature that doesn’t seem to happen every time, but if you leave a game early if during that round you finish research on a modification any extra research that would normally be able to be put towards other modifications is instead lost to the cosmos
It happens if you leave eraly and go into another game, thats why I always wait for the game to end and play a different nation in the meantime or do other stuff
He probably had research helicopters using ground vehicles and it will only put the RP you gain into the current module and nothing else

Didn't the heat shell for this thing have a fuse that wasn't set correctly or something? If I recall correctly it was not effective against tanks at all
I don't know if that was the exact issue with the HEAT shell. But it is damn near useless it feels like. Mostly since Gajin nerfed most HEAT shells
Yes, IRL they tried to copy I think it was German HEAT. But because of the differences in launch velocity and spin they didn’t arm

Sweden's early tier HE is one od few HE shells that actually normally work most of the time for its tier.
Although with HE, Gajin has this wierd thing to makes front plates invunerable to it. Probably for that imaginary balance they claim is realism.
The bt-42's HE is especially good because it's a fucking ginormous cannon. It's HEAT is also surprisingly good at taking out vehicles it normally shouldn't be good against. I've gone into matches with exclusively HEAT and taken out SPAAs without a second thought.
As a Finnish mix I find this extremely entertaining thanks spookston hope you show more Finnish vehicles in the future 🎉
Sweden is one of my favorite tank lines, some absolutely MEME level tank design ( so of which is amazing ) and access to vehicles from major countries to make the grind a bit easier without it being a massive part of the countries roster.
the nice part of the swedish meme vehicles is that unlike italian or french meme vehicles, swedish meme vehicles can hold their own in fight at their own br pretty well
The BT-42 is the low tier equivalent to the FV4005. both having cobbled together turrets with oversized guns and a full sized backdoor. when one cannot spam enough HE
As a BT-42 enjoyer, bring majority HEAT shells. You still one shot most things, bring some HE for opentops.

I've also noticed something off with the match making. For me, it puts me on the same exact map, with the same capture point arrangement at least three times in a row. After the third game it finally switches to another map.
Huh. So its not only me going insane in the BVM getting penned in the lower glacis over and over and over again on the same map in 3 roes. It happens to other people too.
I'm not a huge ground battles fan but you're genuinely so funny and your videos are so entertaining it's tough not to watch your vids for hours

I've been playing this thing uptiered for like 4 days now and the best advice I can give for it: play it like you're in Girls Und Panzer. Never stop moving. Also don't use the HE.

Look 25,4 millimeters is exactly an inch. If the US used the metric system they surely would’ve gone for just 25 millimeters. I can’t believe that there’s anything positive about the imperial system but apparently it saves Stuarts from BT-42s

11:40 The turret is, because of the way gaijin modeled it, you got 3 armor plates. The mantlet, which has a same thickness plate under it, and then again behind the tunion following the general shape of the turret.

Stuart are weirdly survivable period. Except if I'm playing one, then a small rodent passing gas in my general direction 500m away will instantly kill me.
i think gaijin should model some variation in armour penetration for shells like +-10mm due to difference in how the powder burns, slight differences in the shell material for example microscopic voids or density difference and slight difference in velocity but knowing gaijin theyll probably mess that up

Hey Spooks, Great video, as always. Hopefully we could see you play the Ho-Ri prototype. It does kind of bully at 6.7 and can be surprisingly tanky for something that looks like an Amazon box.

fun fact: the BT 42's HEAT round can frontally penetrate a panther if you ricochet the shell off its barrel just right
I heard that one of these shot an enemy tank 18 times, and it did nothing

IRL it was terrible because it depended on imported german HE shells that never arrived (And what little they got was way off spec) but these days it's a fan favorite. Mostly due to a certain movie where tanks drift at high speeds while dueling at spitting distance from each other.
God I love this stupid fridge on tracks.
if i recall correctly, the fuse was the main problem. something about the rotation of the round affecting it negatively.
@@ravenouself4181the HE worked fine, the heat was copied from Germany and the speed and rotation didn’t make the fuses arm

Asking Spookston to take a look at the ARL-44, it's essentially an XTREME PANTHER.
All of Panthers strenghts magnified, and all of Panthers weaknesses magnified.

Which ARL-44 are we talking here. Because the 5.3 one doesn't take hit too well. The 3.7 one can take a beating as long as it isn't magically lol penned on the front by a pz4.

u could give the japan Ho-Ro a try, it has a giant mortar like howitzer so u can lob shells from cover. also sometimes kills things if the shell just lands near the enemy.
you should play the AMX-10P it gets a pretty nasty APDS belt

I remember playing this. It's not bad, but 25mm isn't really enough compared to the 15cm that this leads to.
Definitely a tank destroyer. And while HE does bring laughs, HEAT is more consistent.
You should do the AMX M4 next, its a nice tank
