One thing which has really helped me is to have a fixed monthly budget and then divide that with 30 days and give myself a daily allowance. Agar allowance ke upar gaya to next din starve, neeche gaya to kabhi aage jaake reward yourself. It works wonders honestly! I started off by budgeting everything as Tanmay mentioned and in 2 years I was able to get better at allowing myself to spend, responsibly. Regardless, taking your budget one day at a time works wonders!

EMI trap is very real. For example you can hardly afford a 15k smartphone but end up buying a 70k phone going for no cost EMI offers. It took me 2 years to realise that I was spending 30-40% of my salary to pay EMIs. Then it took me 4 more years to get out of that trap completely.

You missed out on a few things on the budget which i've mostly considered :
-medical bills ( if a person is living in the city, they need medicines and at least quarterly medical checkups)
    - a lot of people go for therapy, so at least 2k a month goes behind therapy or spa or any sort of body and mind maintenance
    - public transport and uber combined minimum 5k a month, cz even if you have a car/bike, no one drives it while going for drinking
    - electric bill
-if somebody is living with their parents, at times they support their parents medical expenditures too.
    - if we really want to save money, the best practice is to create RD's. So that even if you're know you're not saving much at the back of your head, you know that there is a fixed amount of money that is getting saved in a piggy bank within your bank account, which you can access 6 months later. ( secret: this is how i afford my plane tickets to go back to my hometown)

      What's RD

    • @bubble_in_the_ink
      @bubble_in_the_ink 4 ปีที่แล้ว +37

@@k__ashu RD is Recurring Deposit. It's like a Fixed Deposit, but in a shorter period of time, you can access the money and not a very high amount is required to do RD's.
So, for example, you wanna put aside 2k per month for a period of 6months. The bank will keep deducting exactly 2k per month from your account for 6 months, and after the month, the whole money will be appended to your account (which is 12k at the end of 6 months), along with some small interest amount from the bank. This is mostly helpful if you have a big expenditure planned after certain period of time and you know that under general circumstances you aren't able to save much.

11:11 "Salary does not matter, what you save matters"
This makes a lot of difference, specially cause people think they earn too little to save or that the amounts they save are inconsequential.
Saving is a habit. When you get your appraisals and earn more, through the years, you will save more and more every year!

Looking forward to it! The guiding principle that my mom taught me as s child was - the easiest way to save is to get money deducted even before it hits your bank account. In other words, setting up auto payments to your savings’ accounts really helps cz then your brain works with the knowledge of ‘itna hi salary hai mera’ and you’re able to manage accordingly.

This isn't advisable by any financial planner.
When we have income less savings, we would do unnecessary expenses just because Bahut paisa hai.
Instead we should be calm and save all the money left. You might be talking about SIP but saving besides there is also must.

I think there is some problem with the tax deduction method you used there. If he gets ₹70K/Mo (After deductions like PF, EPF, etc.), it turns out to be ₹840K/Year of in hand salary. If he opts for the new Taxation scheme, that is,
    Upto ₹5 Lakh - NIL
    ₹ 5 Lakh - ₹ 7.5 Lakh - 10%
    ₹ 7.5 lakh - ₹ 10 Lakh - 15%
    For ₹ 8 Lakh 40 K,
    So the net income tax turns to be = NIL(5Lakh) + 10% (₹7.5L - ₹5L) + 15% (₹8.4L - ₹7.5L) = ₹ 38,500 per Annum
    After 4% Cess (Tax on Tax) = ₹38,500 + 4% (₹ 38,500) = ₹ 40,040 per Annum
    So the net Tax/Month = ₹40,040/ 12 = ₹3,336 = ₹ 3500 (Roughly)
    So, he is left with ₹70K - ₹3500 = ₹66500/Month (After Taxation)
    Post Deducting the Living Necessity = ₹ 66500 - 27000 = ₹ 39500
    Post deductions of Luxury wants = ₹ 39500 - 15000 = ₹ 24500
So basically he is left with ₹24500 as his savings.
Let me know if I’ve made any mistakes.

This is such a fun series. I'm hoping this leads into some interactive ways of what can be doing with savings - through trading and investments.
Few things i'd also bucket into budgeting expenses:
    - Holidays/traveling
    - Art/Passion related expense (Buying a camera, musical equipment)
    - Students with big loans (education or house loans and not just a bike/phone loans)
    - Also how this factors for young families (Someone who's 30-32 and married and is just about to have a kid)
And this might just be a future corporate plug (for a splitwise or similar companies) - but maintaining a budget regularly as opposed to doing it one at a time. How do you get better at this? How do we make this a habit?
Cheers and look forward to following this entire series!

The way to become rich is to do 4 things.
    1. Have multiple sources of income - Buy dividend paying stocks
    2. Own other people's debt and not be in debt yourself - Buy bonds (ie owning other's debt), pay your loans and credit cards bills in full
    3. Use the power of compounding interst - Invest in long term FDs which add the the interest payments back into the principal
    4. Pay less in taxes - Register a business in your name and buy yourself stuff showing it as business expense. Find yourself an honest CA and register an OPC in your name.
Everything else, like equity stocks, crypto, real estate, is more or less gambling.

Although Covd-19 has put a halt to this but our generation is obsessed with travelling and it's something that ideally needs to be budgeted for.
Besides I think if you are young/just starting out there is always some kind of education expenses either as repayment of loan or budgeting /spending for higher studies (MBA/CFA etc.) or certification courses just to improve professional skills.
When it comes to women they end up spending a lot on clothes (formal attire or party) an personal care/grooming stuff as living in the city does require to living up with the lifestyle.
Finally in my opinion those people who are in relationship or dating then toh bichare extra spending karte hai than singles 😂😅 and it's almost a crime to be in love relationships!

This shows how far away you're from the real world. Average monthly salary for an IT guy is 70k. This is too much even for a joke. And when he is already spending 250+300 monthly on his phone. What would he do with internet? Why do you forget that calls are free and whatever he is paying is for internet. And if you're just talking about budgeting here than I think if a person is earning 25k a month than He is just surviving. People are even working for 12k a month. They pay their rent and eat chole kulche near their office in the afternoon and for supper they just eat a thali somewhere or cook anything which can just fill them up.

  • @rg1283

One main issue we tend to overlook while making a monthly budget is factoring in large, once-a-year expenses. These include things like life and medical insurance payments, festivals, etc. It's something I have struggled with for a long time.
