Even though the launch on Lightning Rod was ultimately a failure, I find it impressive that Dollywood managed to operate it successfully for as long as they did. Now, with the new high-speed chain lift, Lightning Rod should be more reliable than ever. While I’ll miss the unique launch, I respect Dollywood and RMC for trying such an innovative concept. It was truly one of a kind.
I just really hope that they go the Ring Racer route, which would be that it closes down shortly after it's grand opening and then goes sbno forever, instead of the "Maintaining this thing turns out to be one big pain in the ass so we just don't until someone dies" route, which we have already seen on some way smaller rides than this.... But there is probably nothing to worry about since for this to happen, the ride would have to open to the public in the first place

From a design and engineering perspective, I find this project genuinely fascinating. While I don’t condone the actions of the entities funding it (their human rights record is extremely alarming), I also recognize its significance for future innovation. Saudi Arabia, with its vast financial resources and minimal environmental or building regulations, has become a playground for the world’s most ambitious projects-sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. For example, projects like The Line have been significantly scaled down. Similarly, while the roller coaster has been constructed, it hasn’t yet operated, and other aspects of the Qiddiya project, such as the racecourse, are experiencing delays. The major issue with these Saudi initiatives is that they often overpromise and underdeliver.
@@ThemeParkCrazy Considering your thoughts on the project, I have a feeling that Falcon’s Flight and Six Flags Qiddiya won’t be as impressive as the marketing shows it to be.

They will get it up and running properly. The question is, when? Nothing like this has ever been built by anyone. This is a whole new prototype with newly designed trains. Funny you mentioned Kuwait because when I was little there, I was in a car in a highway and on the left side of the car I saw what appears to be an Ultra Twister model on the edge of the highway. I didn’t know what or how it got there but this was the first and only time I saw one of these models in real life as a toddler. Love your vids Christian!
You never stop teaching about new coasters! I mean just when I thought I heard it all I learn they tried to make a coaster with part of the track missing!
One of my ideas was to make a coaster based on the movie Speed. "It's not finished" as you barrel towards the track with a 50 foot gap in it. Of course that isn't the real track. The real track has a sudden airtime point where the "gap" starts and a hard landing where it ends. Of course that would still be a pain in the ass maintenance wise, so it will never happen.
Not a fan of gray outs on coasters either, which is one reason that I do not like I305. I would definitely have hated the original version if it made you black out. I'm also not a Maverick fan. I know a lot of people like these two coasters, but they're just not my favorites. Give me Fury 325 and Cooperhead Strike over them any day! 😄
We can at least excuse the Flip-Flap Railway, Cannon, and the Crystal Beach Cyclone because they were built in the early days of roller coasters, and designers were still figuring things out. At least Cannon didn't keep the gap...
That Cannon coaster was certainly ambitious. And now, the Donkey Kong coaster at universal will appear to “jump” the track too, through the actual rails on the side holding the cars and a false regular track on the bottom.
Of course cannon coaster would be at number 1, who thought it would be a good idea to make car fly out of the track! Thank god this isn't the kind of coasters we have
Griffon at Bursh Gardens Williamsburg and SheiKra at Bursh Gardens Tampa are sometimes ones where that happens to me too. But I haven’t been to Kings Dominion since they had Volcano the Blast Coaster and Hypersonic. I loved Volcano, but Hypersonic, along with Looping Star in Ocean City, MD, are my top two worst favorites. Besides the launch (which I loved) Hypersonic gave me a headache all three times I ever went on it. As for Looping Star, the only time I’ve ever been on it as an adult, it gave me a minor neck injury that wouldn’t resolve until the next day. Intimidator is definitely on my roller coaster bucket list though.
One ride, i think, is absolutely too far, is switchback stunt coaster at cedar point. That fire and that initial launch nearly made me black out and i hit my head hard

1st-Great job and a big shapo for your very interesting videos. Now, I have some questions about this one: 1.About the Top thrill dragster (2 and 1)- didn't understand what were the problems with both. Was there a tragic accident which brought Cedar Point to decision of closing them? 2. About the Screaming Squerrel (the one with the upside-downs at #8)- you talked about its bizzarness, that it was "too bizzare", but what do you mean by saying it? Which excperiences have riders had in that coaster, who made it been closed? Accidents? Panic attacks? Since I guess it's not cause of the bizzarness/bizzarity😮 3.About the Maveric of the Cedar point-also, didn't understand exactlly what went wrong with it? And how often it went wrong? Since, as the TTD 1- it was run for a long time (at least 10 years, if I'm correct), so what was the accident which crossed the red line and brought it to close? 4. About the last one you showed here (in # 1)- I didn't understand how they kept such a coaster, which the trucks fly/jump up in the air, for so long till they finally came to the conclution to close it? Haven't it caused death tragics throwout the years? How have the riders survived that fu**ing dander😮? 5. About the Du-ponda (or another name of this Fuji-Q coaster at Japan)- If I understood correctly, it was closed cause of bringing some riders all over the years to lose concensnece, yeah? Now, they have made a big change there which turn it to a new version and it still founded to be unsafety, so it was closed as the 1st one? Thanks
I’m honestly so glad I rode the Sequoia Adventure Squirrel coaster in Italy back in my travels. I thought it was clever and unique! The thrill of going over the edge and flipping so far over was wild, mainly in anticipation. I recall it was quite clunky, and each flip upside down we all exclaimed how weird it was just with our kids and thuds. The poor guys behind us haha. The pressure on the top of the shoulders was really the uncomfortable part, which I could see someone passing out if it hit the wrong nerve. Not a lot of wiggle room in the shoulder braces. The theming was silly but fun, I remember a giant spinning saw at the bottom of the run. Good memories on that one ride!
I have to wonder if they could've salvaged the launch on Lightning Rod by swapping the supports on the lift for steel. I still love the irony of the Crystal Beach Cyclone being called a *Safety* Coaster
The Cannon Coaster sounds like a really early version of what the soon-to-be Mine Madness coaster at Donkey Kong Land at Epic Universe is gonna be. Sure you're not actually jumping the tracks but the illusion is there.
I don't understand why people criticize companies for partnering with other companies that havent done something as big as whatever, but have done it at a smaller level. How are companies supposed to get better at something if they never try? If you know how to draw a square, how are you going to figure out how to draw a cube if you never try? I think pushing limits can be a good thing. But i know nothing about rollercoasters so my opinion doesn't matter.

I wouldn’t say too crazy but shockwave (used to be a standup coaster) was the first standup to have a zero-g roll. I’ve been on it sitting down and I can’t imagine how it would be standing up cuz that roll was forcefully as hell!
Sky Plaza Comet did operate until 2005 at Kuwait and stood SBNO even after a 2015 repaint, and imagine CGI reviving Flip Flap Railway and Crystal Beach Cyclone but more safer
And had Lightning Rod been built with a cable lift hill, this would've been the 2nd wooden coaster to have such after El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure
I remember hearing somewhere that some people who rode the Flip Flap Railway actually expressed hope that their necks would break on the loop. It was either in history class, or during a documentary on the building of Disney Land (or just Walt Disney in general).
5:38 I am thankful that I was able to ride the coaster in 2022 on November 6 before my birthday, I will remember fondly of it.. but will see how it rides if I ever come back there
I just happened to get to ride Top Thrill 2 during its brief opening and really hope it reopens smoothly. I think it makes sense for them to take their time given the incident that closed the original down. They also might feel like the opening hype was ruined by the extended closure so they want to just start fresh with a new season (they tend to open rides at the start of the year save a few exceptions). Anyway it felt like a really cool update to the ride. Now tell them to put the roll back on Maverick and maybe CP and Intamin can kiss and make up again.
I guess I have a different idea of what “intense” means. I don’t want to hurt my back or almost black out on a ride. Intense to me means a ride like El Toro; which feels like it is trying its best to hurl you out of your seat while not making you feel like you just visited the chiropractor.
I have a theory that had Top Thrill 2 didn't have problems, Kingda Ka at Great Adventure would have never closed. But it did happen, and it may be the worst and dumbest decision to come out of the Six Flags/ Cedar Fair merger and it will probably come back to haunt them.
Honestly, I never understood why they couldn’t have just switched the wooden structure out for steel on the lift tail of lightning rod since steel doesn’t flex as much
Sky Plaza Comet operated according to RCDB. It also operated at the park is was relocated to. Don't know why Theme Park Crazy said it didn't operate at those both parks even though they did according to RCDB.

Wow never heard about that Korean pipeline coaster. Wasn't the pipeline originally invented and a prototype built by Arrow back in the day? I remember it being talked about in an old roller coaster documentary

The Canon Coaster strikes me as a good idea if you can figure out how to fake it. (IE, there really is a track but the riders can't see it so it *feels* like you're suddenly flying between two track segments.)

I have a theory that had Top Thrill 2 didn't have problems, Kingda Ka at Great Adventure would have never closed. But it did happen, and it may be the worst and dumbest decision to come out of the Six Flags/ Cedar Fair merger and it will probably come back to haunt them.
Went to Dollywood for a week this year and lighting rod was down the entire week. So much for improved reliability
Funny how most of them are launch coasters
I love watching your videos it really brings light to my day
Glad I could make your day better! ✌
2:44 I’ve made this element in RCT more times than I’d like to admit
I rode the original Intimidator. It was a thing of beauty.
14:45 that thing was ahead of its time i like to see that rebuilt now
What’s all that mist at the bottom of the LR launch for?
Do-Dodonpa actually lasted longer than Moonsault Scramble at the same park
Honestly, I never understood why they couldn’t have just switched the wooden structure out for steel on the lift tail of lightning rod since steel doesn’t flex as much
Sky Plaza Comet operated according to RCDB. It also operated at the park is was relocated to. Don't know why Theme Park Crazy said it didn't operate at those both parks even though they did according to RCDB.
I still do not understand what the intamin pipeline coaster offered that a traditional steel coaster didnt.. less space?.. better elements?...looking cool?. i dunno.
I really love these videos because it tells me a lot about roller coasters and why I like them and it inspires me so thank you a lot have a wonderful day
I'm so glad they inspire you! Have a great day!
I'm one of the proud owners of one of the first 100 pieces of the Maverick heartine roll with both signatures.
Nothing could possibly go wrong with that idea. 😮💨
I was in fuji-q highland last week and saw only a single track from do-dodonpa was left
Wow never heard about that Korean pipeline coaster. Wasn't the pipeline originally invented and a prototype built by Arrow back in the day? I remember it being talked about in an old roller coaster documentary
It makes me wonder why Fuji Q Highlands didn’t do a send off pun… like do-dodonpa is do-do-done-with.
i came very close to blacking out on Intimidator 305 and havn't been on since. It's pretty much the only coaster i skip on after that experience. My son rides it and last season and the season before it was pretty much a walk on ride.
I bet Top Thrill 2 is the reason Kingda Ka is now permanently closed
I'm surprised Son of Beast isn't on this list!
such a great video man! here from 🇪🇸
I dont get why they didn't use a tire launch on lightning rod. Cover the launch to stop the tires from getting wet. It would have worked far better.
Ur one of my fav ytberz!⭐️
I love these videos and hope you do well in the future and are the reason I am so brave on roller coasters and why I like them thank you and have a wonderful day
They’re are a few coasters I’m surprised didn’t make the list. Son of Beast, Drachenfyre, and X.
7:40 - Lol I'm building a heavy metal theme park in Planet Coaster, and I based my Pantera coaster on I-305... Oh how the turntables.
Soon as I saw the thumbnail .... I thought Kingda Ka and Top Thrill Dragster.
The Cyclone = Safety Coaster.
Physics said otherwise
The Canon Coaster strikes me as a good idea if you can figure out how to fake it. (IE, there really is a track but the riders can't see it so it *feels* like you're suddenly flying between two track segments.)
