Everybody here, this is (not) an Evangelion "Come Sweet Death" video.
Listening to this put thoughts in my head that must have been in Bach's head as he sat down and played it. I wonder what it would sound like if sung by a male voice choir. Pretty neat, I guess. Bach had a good life, lots of kids and he composed hours and hours of music. He was good and ready to meet his maker when his time came. I hope I am that lucky when my time comes. I love this music; over ten minutes of glorious sound.

I've played this song twice now, once for Kentucky All-State (it was great!). Apparently this song was for the Lutheran church, where "Come Sweet Death" is not morbid, but is actually a great thing.

This quote, out of context, may stand for “modernistic garbage” or, maybe, point to ideas such as the “felix culpa”.
And I feel like the latter is more accurate: every character is shown with his flaws, as a fallen human being, but despite all of that a “voice of sheer silence” still gently touches every ear.
That show literally are the confessions of a confused conscience… What’s better for a Christian than that, one might say!
The message of Evangelion is paradoxically pretty Christian for a japanese show.

This is baroque music, it's supposed to have rhythm, even if slow. It's too slow for that here.
This piece isn't "everything is horrible and miserable and nothing is okay." Why isn't it that? Because the piece talks about how when you're gone you're going to be in heaven. It's both supposed to be sad and comforting that when you die, it's not all over.
I mean, I don't believe that personally, but I can feel it from the piece. That's why it's not all minor, and that's also what keeps it interesting. He goes between the pain of life and the lack of pain in heaven. It's in the lyrics. Yes, this is a vocal piece.

well he *did* say it was an homage to Virgil Fox, who was kinda the exact opposite of a period performance guy. His versions of baroque music - or any music he played - involved finding the biggest, loudest, most 'symphonic' pipe organs around, wringing every bit of emotion he possibly could outta the material, marketed to audiences who were probably waiting patiently for heavy metal to eventually be invented, all while wearing capes that would have made Liberace scold him for being *too* flamboyant.
Interesting guy, Fox was.

I got my AS results back today, and unfortunately, I wound up as 8th alternate for violins, which makes no sense... even our bass, who was a finalist in a NATIONAL competition as a FRESHMAN just got into Commonwealth this year.

This is too slow, that it totally ruins the rhythm of this wonderful piece! It should be played slow, but it has not only beautiful harmony and this is too slow and also out of tempo. Virgil Fox had not bad ideas, but he made it out of bound of mind. Also the Tutti-version is after a while too aggressive and disturbing, that I cant concentrate on the music.
Come on Virgil this music actually has phrases - this is far too static a tempo for the song to possess a sense of physical movement and thus we lack an entire musical dimension.

Hooking a Cavaille-Coll (sampled) to a Leslie is just plain weird and weird sounding- and FAKE. But this is a magnificent work and the organist has the rightful prerogative to paly it any way he or she wants. I appreciate the performance, but don't especially like it.
