Great Expectations, one of Charles Dickens' finest works was first published as a weekly serial in Dickens' literary journal All the Year Round, from 1860 until 1861.
A young orphan Pip dreams of one day becoming a gentleman and winning the heart of the beautiful but superior, Estella.
When he inherits money from a mysterious source Pip takes his chance and moves to London, leaving his old friends and values behind.
But the high life brings out the worst in Pip. And only after many trials and dangers does he re-discover his real friends, and his true self.

What Dicken's wrote about 'tickler' early on in the book was when I first really felt like I was reading the words of a genius author. The part I found most funny was his description of Wemmick's face; utterly brutal, yet gloriously hilarious!

I'm listening to an excellent audio book of this great novel and passers-by think I'm weird because I suddenly laugh, apparently at nothing, as I walk along.
