    Hiya, pal!
    Absolutely GREAT tip!
    THANK YOU!
I think many old T430s were sold w/ the BIOS password left on the machine.
So those laptops could only be parted out, not used except parts.
This tip could save many of the old laptops.
With some upgrading some of these laptops are fine computers.
I don't have to carry mine around so the weight & size are not issues for me.
I would like to upgrade the CPU but its hard to figure out which quad-core to buy.
I guess I'll buy one that doesn't require upgrading the heatsink.
That would make a good video, don't you think?
    Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!

I will have to see and try a few cpu's which one would fit better, i like that idea....and yes, i actually didn't just get that laptop for the video...i use it daily and i really like it....16gb ram...512 gb SSD....the CPU would probably be next and maybe get one of them double batteries...i really like it..it's a shame a lot of them are thrown away or parted out just because they didn't bother to remove bios pwd, which after the hdd is removed, there's absolutely no security or privacy risk...i am glad i'm not alone with this kind of laptop, cheers partner.

My self esteem sank when I saw the bios admin password prompt. OH NO!!! I didn't want to rip the black sticker cover, so I very carefully cut (rather score) a channel (two parallel lines) in sticker with a sharp knife. Then lifted it slowly with gripping tweezers. I didn't have alcohol but I used a couple of orange peels! It worked! The tracks were way too small, so I used a pair of very sharp tipped tweezers, I sanded the tips so they're clean, nice and sharp. I shorted the tracks, then pressed the power button. It beeped a few times and nothing on the screen at all. I realised I didn't pressed the power button first. I shut it down by pressing the power button for a few seconds. I taped the tweezers so I didn't waste a second or two trying to squeeze it to get to the right size before shorting the tracks. I pressed the power button first followed by a short to the tracks for a second (just a firm light touch, no need to press too hard) and it went into the BIOS as explained in this excellent video. Shorting deleted the device UUID. Upon next boot, after the password reset, date and time fix etc., the UUID automatically reappeared. The rest is history. :) Note: if you still can't get into BIOS by pressing F1 (not because of the BIOS password but because of fast/safe boot feature of the OS?) then restart (not shutdown!!) the machine from the power menu, upon the next boot, press F1, you'll get into BIOS.

Or you can keep the Lenovo button pressed while pressing power, should automatically give the option for bios.

I paid $30 for mine after I saw it on fleabay same problem and i found your workaround so i bought it now i just have to get the tweezers. to do the job.
Then it's put in a new SSD drive cloned from my linux mint T410's
I don't like windows and have long since joined the. Linux mint force.
I have 8 T410's and thought i might as well try a T430 and see if it's any better.

You kind of skipped over the hard part where you short out the mobo and press F1 to get into the BIOS

    • @OMNITEK
      @OMNITEK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I didn't skip but the camera wasn't focusing good and i had to take a picture and put up so it would be a bit more clear...i know it doesn't look easy but hope soon i can upgrade cameras and make things better, thanks for noticing and letting me know, much appreciated.

I have this t430, it is a great laptop, but my only concern is its Pulse width modulation and it really aches my head thru my eyes. Any solution? Thanks

In my case i tried a few things and all i came to do it keep the "reading filter" on...but somehow on windows it doesnt seem great...but now i have Zorin OS which in my opinion brings this laptop on par with latest ones...and somehow feels easy on my eyes and the battery lasts way longer, but the downside is that its not windows...not really sure why it does that with windows only...at least mine.

@@mtscott44 so, the grayed out ones are some sort of "limited access" mode (i used to get into it but because i didnt enter a password), you probably timed it wrong, i was at it for quite a bit due to my shaky hands, but you just gotta hold em on the contacts at the moment the screen turns on, but before the thinkpad logo. The "holes" arent where you must put the contacts, there are 2 "shiny" bits on the same "line" (hopefully you understood what i said just now), put whatever youre shorting it with against one of the contacts before turning it on
