I clicked so fast and gobbled all of this goodness in one go! What a nice adventure! How good to relive our afternoon together. More of all of it please: pansies, curvies, plein air, crinkly page asmr, bleed-throughs, spontaneity 💖
P.S. Stelly wants everyone to know she’s available for pawtagraphs now that she’s internet famous, however she will only accept pizza crusts as payment.

This video truly came through like a ray of sunshine in my life! Thank you so much Sophie, you always seem so positive and inspired and it really motivates me! All you said about phone addiction is SO true, I will sit there and think “what could I draw” and then end up scrolling my phone for 3 hours instead - to then be disappointed with myself and scrolling more, as a distraction. So good to hear that other artists are experiencing similar things and you seem to definitely have found a way to deal with it - I’ll try and follow in your footsteps! 🤗💐

Life has been busy lately - between travelling, work, moving in and out there was never enough time to be creative. At some point I simply stopped. Sold most of my supplies. Turned my attention to other things. I'm realising now that I haven't painted, nor even doodled, in a year or maybe longer.
I have watched your video and you have no idea how inspired I feel now - to go back to myself, to start creating again, just for the sake of doing it. Thank you, Sophie 💖

Watching your videos has been so inspirational as I'm kind of one of those perfectionist types that has trouble being loose and free. This has been quite a curse as it takes so long im really not very productive at all, and sometimes even the fear of not being exact prevents me from starting projects I've wanted to do. Your videos have helped so much in opening up to the idea of just scribbling or just trying things even if it's not perfect. Your productivity is amazing and i can now see how much this idea of perfect has been stifling my expressions. Thank you these videos have been very cathartic and helpful. Keep up the great work ❤.

Awww thanks!! I have realised that it takes a lot of practice to get into that mindset. Creeping back to making ‘finished art’ still happens sometimes. And that’s okay! (Depending on how people like to use their sketchbooks) we gotta have a bit of a wiggle and loosen up again from time to time

My favourite souvenier by now is a sketchbook, where ever I go I look forward to get a sketchbook or a nice notebook to sketch in. 2018 I was abroad in south korea and traveld alot around south east asia... i came back home with 12 Kg of sketchbooks... in al sizes and colors, formats and papers. And I love them! I just try to adjust my colors to the papers so they don't tear apart if the medium is too wet. At home i rather go for thick paper because I sometimes go wild on watery mediums and I don't realy like it when the paper just breaks apart or desintegrates xD
Loved this vid, love all your vids so far ! so much joy and inspiration

I’ve been jumping around between 3 sketchbooks. My favorite is the stillman and burn beta series. I am using it to play with paint and textures. Sometimes I do finished work in it. I’ve also been using the gamma series of the same brand. That’s my play and practice one for mostly dry media. Observational drawings and mark making experiments, studies, etc. then I have the Pantone note book and it has colored pages it. I’m using that exclusively for collage spreads.

I’m not phone addicted. Few people even have my number. I have apps and even some games but I don’t use them every day and I spend a short time on them when I do use them. I kinda find them, phones that is, a bit annoying and intrusive which is why I have almost all notifications off. I also kinda hate social media so I only have Instagram, Pinterest and TH-cam. The first two to follow artists I like and for pics and TH-cam for art and Street racing videos.

I love your work, but i'm scare about this idea that we have to fill a sketchbook in a short time. It give a false idea about what's art truly is.I see on the suggestion of youtube, another artist that finished his sketchbook in one day, and the other time, it was in 20 min...Does artists went crazy about the time? Does art is about being fast those days? It's really out of my mind. It's like to be fast count much more than the artistic process itself. Honestly it's a superficial detail. I don't think art is about being fast, but being full-of-soul, even if you take time for it. I learned that i often needed a pause, to recharge my inspiration on spiritual/soul lever, and to come back to art better after. I remember that artists from others era could take years to achieve a single painting. I don't understand. Art is exactly the thing that ask for time, and that is exactly a way to enjoy the smooth rythm of life. We are too much corrupted by this modern society, even in artistic community, that promotes fake idea on their own followers.
So that would learn people to be fast, instead to adjust to their own rythm. We don't learn people to listen to their inner voice anymore, while it should be the principal parameter in art. It would make those who are slower culpabilize about their own process. In fact, it's like that being on youtube influence, corrupt and transform our relation to art and what we really are.
Because in order to please to our followers we try to make fast and sensationnal videos, instead to stick to our true voice.
It's not against you personally, because i truly love your art. But we should pay attention to not give to others the wrong message. NO Art SHOULDN'T BE FAST, but should be made according to the rythm of each people. So it would be great if youtubers would stop to promote fake idea like that.
It would change nothing if you fill your sketchbook in 2 months, if the drawings you make in it make you feel great.
Today, it's like artists don't promote well-being anymore, but just to be quick and to obey to superficials matters promoted by this artistic community (i don't wish anymore to belong to it, when i see the rules imposed by this community. I prefer to be by myself and to make exactly how if feel°).
Art is not a rush. Art is a spiritual process, about learning to listen to your inner voice, instead to listen to the masses and what others expect from you. Art is about TAKING TIME to assimilate the process, mentally, intuitively, and materially and to respect the notion of time. But saddly i don't recognize myself in actual artists, it's like to take our time became a taboo and a bad thing, and that we want to be glorified for being fast. While it's superficial. The best things come from the slow movement of life.
We, as artist, have the chance to be able to listen our inner voice, much more than others people, but we don't respect that anymore, we submit ourself to the weight of society and the rules of youtube, that ask of being fast and making a lot of content, to be "competitive", but art, it's not about competion or rush. But being connected to our soul and to not corrupt our art in the name of a busy society (or just to content our followers, that need their 5 min of fun, just to fill their own time)

    • @SophieMcPike
      @SophieMcPike  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hello!! Yes! I absolutely agree about each individual being able to make work at the pace that suits them best :) go slow, go fast, it’s totally up to them!!
This sketchbook took me about 6months to get through. To some this may seem slow, some might think it’s really fast!
This is just me and my way 🧡🧡🧡 I feel like I absolutely promote well-being when it comes to an art practice. I endorse scribbling and playing and trying new things and never being afraid to mess up and make mistakes, bad art days happen, euphoric art days happen! It’s all a big beautiful mess with no boundaries and no right or wrong way to do things!
I appreciate your comment. It reminds us to take a step back from comparing ourselves artists and other makers on the internet and remember to do whatever you like to do in your own way. Being authentic to the way you work is important. We are not all the same.
      Thanks!!!
