I'm one of those novices and I really enjoy hearing everybody's advice on how to grow these orchids and what I do is just take a little bit from everybody and make it work in my growing environment - thanks a lot for your advice Brittany
Your dendrobium is so BIG!! I have a dendrobium nobile orchid that is so confused; just like your catasetum! I purchased it 2 years ago with buds, and the buds failed unfortunately; being new to orchids, I cared for it the best I could, but the poor thing insists on growing like a weed now while everyone else is showing off their blooms! Last season I tried to trick it back onto the right season "schedule" but it's not having it; maybe I'll be fortunate enough that I can find a way to give it a cool down this spring instead of the fall, and perhaps get those blooms I've been waiting so patiently for. Thanks for the video! You are so right in saying every situation is unique and a lot of time, it comes down to trial and error, and a bit of luck!
I find we each must learn how to take care of our beloved orchids in our vicinity my orchids and I learn each other, I water daily and I’m in Southwest Louisiana. It’s so hot sometimes twice in hot summers like today 115 degrees. Thanks about the Catasetums I’m fixing to order some love your video!Keep it up like them.
Excellent. Simply excellent. You are really wanting your viewers to understand the reasons for your decisions to handle the different genera the way you do so that we will really learn from your experience. Thank you.
You are so right , every grower do things differently and if one of them helps out a novice grower then kudos!! Great video sweety , very informative !! p.s. you are definitely doing some thing right :)
I just brought my nobile up from the basement where its been in the fifty degree temps for the last few months. It didnt form any buds on any of the older canes, but it does have 3 kei keis growing at the base. Not sure what I should do going forward since spring is starting come around up here in Boston MA.
I watered every once in a while when noticed the canes getting shriveled up. The little keikeis are at the base of the mother canes. They were already growing when I bought the plant in the fall. I dont think it was over watering because I kept this orchid on the dryer side if anything and I had it under a grow light to supplement the lack of sunlight during the winter.
Jorge Solano If they were already growing when you bought the plant then you were doing everything right culture wise. Follow normal nobile culture this year, and you should have blooms.
Your dens are so tall and straight up compared to mine which seem to like to produce horizontal shoots in addition to vertical. Am I doing something to cause that. Do you remove the horizontal side shoots?
very cool video what is the plant in the background called? also i want say that dendrobium nobile can used for relaxation if you smoke it or will wake you up if you eat it ;)
This one is in coco coir nuggets. I also have another in medium fir bark chips . They are very snug in their pots as you can see, so they absorb that water the same day, and are ready for another drenching by the next day. Always go by the medium to tell you when to water though. I grow outdoors in the warm months. So that water is absorbed/evaporated throughout the day. By the next day the plant is ready for another drenching.
I live in Brazil, and my dendrobium here don't stop the new shoots, even in the winter. I have been trying the winter rest, but there is no buds forming, but my relative that gave me the dendrobium water hers almost every day and it has buds, what am I supposed to do?

Jorge Solano Were you watering at all during the cooler temps?
