    Before mod (stock) 1:52. 7:54
    After the Mod 6:20. 7:28. 8:10
    With the modification the amplifier got a sweeter tone, softer, more camping and definitely more harmonics appeared that make it sound nicer, more musical and much more valvular.
    It also sounds more like a tweed Princeton but on esteroids, with more mediums characteristic means of a tweed amplifier and the slightly more crystalline treble and bass sounds tighter.
    I definitely liked the modification very much.
    I'd be terrific with a speaker upgrade like
    una Jensen p12q alnico 40 watts o una p12n alnico 50 watts
    Sorry for my english, thank You for the excelent Review

    I live here in Seattle and I'm good friends with John frommel. He modified my Blues Junior 3 with his complete kit and he also worked on the tone stack and the gain structure as well as the reverb.
    Also for free he installed a tube driven tremolo circuit! I put a 12-in speaker out of a tone king imperial in the app and this thing just destroys Deluxe reverbs and any of the hot rod series fenders.
    I would highly recommend any of Frommel's mods for any fender amplifiers. He also builds beautiful handwired Boutique amplifiers and fantastic effects pedals.

    Great demo, especially the ribbon cable fix. I'm going to use a fine strand copper for jumpers. The "after" sounds like the previous reply said - sweetens and ads harmonics. Your Strat sounds great in the "after" playing.

    My heart goes out to you about those ribbon cables. I stopped taking in these amps for repair, that’s one of the reasons. I will gut them and throw in any circuit that’ll work with the transformers. Single channel AB763 and Lead JCM800 are very popular. Bulletproof chassis/cab/iron in these things.

      Yes, it turns an easy mod into an expensive mod - time consuming. Which the client won't quite understand. But I did the same mod on a Hotrod deluxe the other day without damaging the ribbon cables, but still a pita.

    Cheers to Sean, modded my HRD most excellently. And repaired my old Princeton Reverb II and Wampler DF pedal. The man is a wizard. That Deluxe mod sounds great.

    Just saw this post. This amp was uncontrollable and the drive channel was horrible for me. I installed a Weber Vintage ceramic speaker and the Fromel kit. This made the amp outstanding. The volume was controllable and for me the drive channel is better than any pedal I’ve used. I gave it a vintage cosmetic 1950’s look and added a leather handle. Just wish it was a pine box.

    Solid wire ribbon cable has always sucked. Even if you have an insulation grinder to expose bare wire.

    Had the ribbon cable problem with mine! Replaced them with silicone insulated 16/0.2, but had to drill the holes out slightly. A pig of a job, but you only do it once.

    Greatest mod for this amp is to ditch that shrill stock speaker for a Creme Back !!!!!

    Common guys. I have at least 3-4 of these cross the bench every week and I think I’ve had maybe half a dozen with the ribbon cable leads breaking. And all of those had previously been hacked into by other “techs”. The key…remove the the pcbs from the chassis so you’re not constantly bending the leads back and forth. Common sense apparently isn’t so common.

    why does my Blues Deluxe RI have 2 speaker outputs, internal and external?

    • @SandersAmps
      @SandersAmps  ปีที่แล้ว

      Internal is for the speaker in the cabinet, external is for an extension speaker, just in case you want to add one.

    Nice Mod. I am working on one now. Broke the same ribbon cables. I was wondering if you installed the "Optional" Global Master Volume Mod that is supposed will allow the use of the Master Volume knob on both drive and clean channels.

    Uhhh a big problem with the modern fenders is they use lead free solder. Crappy for tube amps!! Clean up and reflow critical spots.

    It was probably the shellac job that ruined the tone in the first place. 😉 just kidding I like the glossy look!

    My hearing isn't what it use to be, but it sounds the almost the same, if not identical. Maybe it's the guitar and terrible pick-ups, and/or same speaker. Note: You improve amp parts, but your pressing the same gas pedal. A simpler change like changing the speaker will do wonders for the type of style your playing. An simple EQ pedal will give maturity to your sound. Until then - your changing parts isn't that noticeable.
    Yeah, Fender cheapo on the parts, so that's what you upgraded. Finish it with an speaker upgrade as well. Otherwise, same guitar, pick-ups, speaker you get better mileage, but sounds only slightly different. Not enough for me.

    • @SandersAmps
      @SandersAmps  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, a different speaker will make a big difference, no doubt about it. But boy it's fun working on amps :)

  • @dananthony6258
    @dananthony6258 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sounds good. You should try an eq pedal before you do all that work. It might have been just enough.

    • @SandersAmps
      @SandersAmps  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's more fun to mod, and also, with the mod I can still add a pedal for even better result :).

    I tell everyone that will listen to put a Fromel kit in their newer Fender amps. These are the things Fender themselves should have done to these amps, but dropped the ball so badly.

    Hey you sound like a Kiwi :) I'm in Christchurch and have a 90s Deville and are thinking of doing a similar mod. A couple of questions. Are you happy with the mod still? Also what about a speaker swap. Any thoughts

    • @SandersAmps
      @SandersAmps  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heyo. Yep, Kiwi born and raised! From Wgtn, now in Santa Barbara CA. The mod was worthwhile, but I ultimately started building hand wired tube amps because they sound even better, as least for me. I suggest starting with the speaker swap because it will make a bigger difference, but sometimes it's not for the better. I like alnico spkrs that are good for blues, but they can be a bit thin for jazz, while heavy metal dudes seem to like the biggest ceramic spkr they can get. Also, check the white 5w resistors for any burn marks near them on the board. If the board is scorched, it's good to remount them with a 5mm gap between them and the board. They're cheap to replace

    Does the Normal / Bright button next to the input jack work on this amp? I have this amp. I could not tell the difference.

    • @SandersAmps
      @SandersAmps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should hear a difference in treble boost. If you hear zero change, perhaps there's an issue with the amp. However, these amps are already fairly bright in tone, IMO, so perhaps it's not much of a problem?

    • @popitn2nd
      @popitn2nd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure why it should not work. The amp i have is brand new. Is this button for normal and bright for both inputs ?

    it's much easier to swap a speaker and it will sound a lot better, less potential for problems since most people arent techs .after that ide swap the v1 tube at least to something vintage instead of the russian crap.
