Great review, Gabe‼️ As a S62 owner, this Epix2 def has a much better screen. One more feature this new watch is lacking is the CADDIE feature on the S62⁉️ It’s the main reason I chose the S62 over other Garmin watches, you would think CADDIE would be included @ $900⁉️

    • @LetsPlayThru
      @LetsPlayThru  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

You are spot on Jon. If you want the Caddie the only way to do it is to get into the approach S62 right now. This watch really is not a golf watch which is why they did not include it, but the screen and other next level features I think would work for many - Especially those considering S42 but want a more feature-rich experience

Brilliant snapshot review and glad you're returning to full health Gabe.
I have the S62 and I love it...I also took the plunge on the beautiful Epix 2 as a multi sports watch with golf included...hoping it would have all the features of the S62 so I could recoup some of the money and take the sting out of the Epix price.
Unfortunately the Epix is missing 2 feature that I've found so far, wind speed/
direction and the Caddie assist. I love the Caddie assist and all the options it provides including club selection, particularly whilst calculating wind speed and direction on those challenging windy days here in the UK.
Not sure I can justify keeping both, but the Epix has other features that I require and that OLED touch screen is amazing, bright, vibrant, colourful and clear. The golf features are almost identical, just not sure I can live without the Caddie assist....or am I relying on tech too much? 🤔
To be fair I need all the help I can get playing this game 😅 and I love technology, both watches are amazing but serve different purposes.. just wish one watch had it all, especially at the premium price.
    Thanks again Gabe 🙂

My favorite feature of my s60 requires the club sensors. Now, when I pull a club out it tells me my average yardage with that club. Very handy. It also auto tracks which club I hit, which lessens the post-hole work.

Thanks for the video. I have a Garmin Fenix 7X and it's similar to this. I've only just started playing so couldn't be bothered using the watch to select each club etc after each shot and mess about selecting scores after each hole. I didn't think it was worth all the hassle especially when I'm spending a fair bit of time looking for balls etc. Haha. Might be worth noting that you can just select not to keep score at the start and then can have the 'measure shot' on for the duration of the round. So you still have the map and distances to the green as well as having the measuring shot feature which is all I require at the moment. Understandably the point of the video is to demonstrate what the watch can do, but maybe beneficial to somebody such as myself that you don't have to use all the 'bloatware' just yet.

You probably already consider this in your reviews but maybe you could consider the text size etc the next time you review a hand-held GPS to help us long-sighted folk.

I just got the apple watch and used it with arccos for the first time this weekend. It was a lot nicer than having to rely on my phone. Having the yardages right on your wrist, being able to set the pin location with the watch as you grab your ball from the hole. Still had to use the phone a little bit to get yardages to hazards etc.

What a great review. Went right away to your supported site because I've been thinking about upgrading my watch, but $1000, it's more than any latest driver, I'll have to see where it will best help my golf game. But seems like it's probably the best full-featured watch that I've seen including the s62, so will be looking for any sale or deals that might happen in the future! :)

In fairness, the S62 has the same features. Body battery, stress monitor, the sleep monitor on this one grades your sleep, which the S62 does not. There’s no virtual caddy on this one? That’s one feature I really like from the S62. As you know, after it knows your averages with clubs over 5+ rounds, it’ll recommend the club to use including with elevation. Your review of the S62 helped convince me to pop on it. Don’t know if I need to necessarily trade “up”, particularly if it’s missing the caddy. Great review though! Lee it coming Gabe, and if you wanted to draw my name for the giveaway from last week, I’d appreciate it! 😂

Interesting to note that the Epix doesn’t have the Virtual Caddy. I’ve had the Approach for a week and was thinking of upgrading to the Epix because it has running features the Approach does not. But I’d rather have the caddy, and track my runs without using the courses and navigation….for half the price. Does Garmin not make a watch that has everything?

Great video thank you. I own a Fenix 6X Solar. Just a quick piece of information for those not familiar with these watches. They are hugely comprehensive. Running, cross country, swimming, cycling, surfing, gym work and so on and so on. It’s incredible. It will generate running routes and guide you in seconds, it will monitor your health in far more detail than other smart watches. It locks onto satellites in seconds, far faster than any other smart watch I’ve used. It is very much the Swiss Army knife of sports watches. It will also store about 8 hours of music onboard as well too. 😂 So yes they are very expensive but for the features they give (and if you are serious about using it) I would say go for it. I am considering upgrading to the Epix just for that amazing touch screen display. 😆 I think if you were only using it for just golf it might be a waste, you need to really be an all out sports person I think.

I use a Garmin Venu for my daily wear watch and also for golf. It’s hood, but two areas they need to fix:
1: a better explanation of the stats in Garmin golf
2: a “pin collect” feature similar to ShotScope. When you putt out you press a button on the watch as you collect your ball. This tells the GPS where the hole is, and then you would get some meaningful putting data (NB: I use the CT10 club sensors, which mean you don’t even have to tell the watch which club you hit!)

Had the Garmin S62 golf watch and ended up selling it after one season. The thing I didnt love was that it was not accurate with regard to distances to the flag. It was more like “front, center or middle” distances vs my laser which is deadly accurate. I think this is true with most of these watches. Fun to look at and super clean graphics, but too much variability on distances.

I had the s60 and was going to get the s62.
Good thing the s60 did was , as you play more and more, it builds up a history of how far you hit each club, so after a drive and it gives you a yardage left, it will suggest what irons to hit , like a virtual caddy so no need to scroll through all clubs, just press on club or adjust club up or down from its suggestion if it uphill or down hill, into or wind assisted.
One tip, when setting up your golf clubs on garmin , add a club you don't use, for example a 2 iron. Choose this for small chips onto green or out of trouble..
This will keep small chips from bringing down your average yards for each club you use in your bag.

That is one of my biggest frustrations with my Venu2. I didn’t realise they had feature disparity like that across the range and while I am more than satisfied with it, it irks me that those features are locked away for me. What Irks me the MOST, is I can tell that the watch keeps track of yardages based on the club selection screen once you take the shot. If i took a shot from 170yds away from the green, that club selection screen will roll to my 170yd club. (Didn’t in this video, which I think is because he hasn’t tracked enough shots yet, not because the Epix2 doesn’t do it). Also still shows you club averages in the app.

Gabe..….first of all, I am happy that you seem to be fully recovered. Your videos are some of the best on TH-cam. Very informative and relevant. In addition to Garmin, I would love to see a video on how to maximize the Apple watch as a golf watch……if you are looking at future projects!
Also, glad to see you are a man of your word and still using the PXG driver. Do you feel that it is more forgiving than your SIM?
Finally, I would love to see you review the Callaway Rogue ST Max driver and how it compares to your PXG and the SIM. It looks like the Rogue is an incredibly forgiving driver.
Keep up the great work and thanks for the information that you provide!!!

I bought this watch based on your recommendation. A couple of comments. You bought the higher priced model and for golf, I think this is overkill with one caveat. I own the Garmin Approach S60. One of my biggest gripes with the S60 is how long it takes to find satellites. The only reason why a golfer would need the Sapphire version of this watch is if you are especially prone to scratching watches or if the multi satellite mode on the Sapphire is significantly faster at picking up satellites. Have not tested my watch to see if it is slower picking up satellites than the Sapphire model in the video, but would be surprised if there was a difference. Can’t see why a watch would take longer to pick up one satellite as opposed to multiple ones, but we will see.
The other major gripe about the S60 is the low resolution screen. It just isn’t very good. I put up with it because the battery life was really good compared to my other watch, the Samsung Galaxy watch, which lasts maybe 2 day with average use and is hardly a golf watch. The Epix is expensive, but it appears to do everything. Great screen, great battery life , fitness tracker and golf watch. You just pay for getting all this in one watch.

Epix Gen2 is just much faster and the screen looks amazing but the price is almost higher than my handicap.
After 2 years I discovered my S60 has most of the golf features you mentioned. It even comes with the same gripes and criticisms you have about it missing shots. It even uploads my stats to my phone.
Even if I had the money, I still cannot logically justify the upgrade in my head. I surely wouldn't complain if I got it as a present though.

I cannot see the reason to pay $300-400 more for the Epix when it has essentially the same golf features of the S62. The S62 also has all of the health features that you discussed that are on the Epix. It is the best health features of any watch. My brother bought the iWatch for the heart monitoring features which are also on the S62. I love your reviews but I think that the Epix review is a little overhyped. I am happy with the S62 which I have had for 10 months.

    • @johandutoit9324
      @johandutoit9324 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The S62 doesn’t have the same depth when it comes to other activities. Eg. You can select strength training and with the Epix2 you can follow an existing workout or just let it detect what exercise you’re doing, it will automatically detect your reps, it can even show you how to do the exercises if you follow an existing workout. Same with running for eg, the epix has super in depth running features, including finding routes for you etc. The S62 has basic tracking on some activities like running, but nowhere near the depth of features over such a breadth of activities as the Epix2.

    • @Narvon

As a Golf Only watch, the Epix2 or Fenix Series watches are over built for most people. Also, they don't have Golf Tempo, Wind Speed and Caddie. However, that's not the point. Gabe was pointing out that his Epix2 watch was great for golf (not perfect). For people like me, the Epix/Fenix series watches offer many more things I use (and many I don't). Thus the cost.....Besides Golf (I Play, but not well), Features S62 can't do for me - Open Water Swims, Pool Swim (No Pace, Stroke, Laps, Drills, etc.), Indoor Bike (No Smart Trainer Connectivity), Outdoor Bike (No Power Meter, Pre-Course Map, MTB, etc.), Power Boat/Sail (everything missing, Charts, Waypoints, Navigation, etc), Hiking Trails (No Topo Maps, Backtrack, Altitude, etc.), Diving (Free/Scuba - 5ATM vs 10ATM) and Sapphire Glass vs Gorilla. I had a Fenix 3 and scratched the hell out of the glass. My last Fenix 5X had Sapphire and held up great.
To get most of these features (while still missing quite a few) you'd have to buy the S62 $500 + Instinct $350 = $850
