Hi Travis ! I guess you could try this suit since you made this video. I am wondering if this blueprint suit is strecht as a « regular »hyperfreak suit, especially for the middle part and legs ? (Where it s different from a hyperfreak suit)
Hey Thibaut, Appreciate the comment. To answer you, the Blueprint is not as stretchy as the Hyperfreak. The blueprint is warmer cause of the smooth skin - it’s a new product also from O’Neill. And the smooth skin is still kinda stretchy and goes from the chest to the knees. This lets in less water and is more wind repellant. But the hyperfreak is still the stretchiest and (I think) best wetsuit on the market, just do to it being really comfortable and flexible. Hyperfreak just has its regular wetsuit technobutter material that goes down the whole suit (no smooth skin at all). The blueprint also unfortunately started to peel and crack kinda quickly on the smooth skin, and I had to send it back for warranty. I think they may discontinue the suit since it prob is a common issue. If you wanna try a suit that’s a bit warmer then Hyperfreak, there’s a new Hyperfreak Fire that just came out. It has fluid weld seems on the outside that keep water out better, but it will make it less stretchy. So if you don’t get cold easily, I’d recommend the Hyperfreak in 4/3 or 3/2 and call it a day.
Great review! The hyperfreak is my atf wetsuit due to the flexibility, however it takes awhile to dry. Does the inner lining of the smooth skin section of the suit that covers the torso have any quick drying benefits?
Thanks. The Blueprint dries about the same time as the Hyperfreak (they are 4/3+s). The Blueprint 'inner' of the smooth skin looks like reddish - technobutter. And it feels the same, almost like its the technobutter and the outer smooth skin coating is layered onto it. I think the Hyperfreaks dry super quick though haha so I'd say around same time to dry. I always rinse with water and hang 'outside in' overnight and the in the AM turn it back normal. And it's usually kinda dry by the next session. If your shopping around, the Blueprint is warmer than the Hyperfreak cause it has seal'ed wrists and ankles and the smooth skin goes all the way to he knees and is warm, best smooth skin I've worn. I do think it deterioates pretty quick though, but I surf 5 days a week. So both good suits. Just got a hyperfreak 4/3+ as a nice second suit to finish off the witner haha
@@TravisVarga thanks for the detailed reply. i surf about 3-4 days a week, twice a day. I have 3 suits i alternate with to keep a dry suit. 4/3+ hyperfreak and a 4/3+ hooded hyperfreak, and a rip curl e6 flash bomb. I'll alternate between the HF to dry then and if I'm unsuccessful, I'll use the rip curl as a last resort. The perfect suit would be quick dry feeling material in the upper legs and torso, and techobutter on the shoulders and knees and below which is what i hoped the blueprint would be. Question, even though the HF and HF BP dry about the same time, does the inside material of the BP feel less wet to the skin due to the carbon material used?
@@kayandmarcos3271 Thanks for the feedback and description of your gear. Sounds like you got an epic quiver of suits haha. Good stuff. The the material of the blueprint smooth skin (which goes from chest down to knees) inside does feel a bit dryer, since the outer material doesn't get as wet. I never noticed it to dry anymore quicker than the HF ( I wasn't using them at the same time though) but in retrospect maybe a bit. Just because like I said, it doesn't soak up as much water as the technobutter cause it repels it more, so the inside material doesn't feel as wet against your skin. Also, a nice effect the smooth skin has is it kinda 'heats up' a bit when out in the sun. Even a bit to the touch, so that is an added bonus with the suit and adds to keeping you warmer and maybe the inner material being dryer too. I'd say overall if you got the money its a fun suit to add to the quiver. Maybe sell the Rip Curl and go all O'neill 😎haha. Cause your right, once you wear the Technobutter it's hard to wear other suits anymore haha (not as good).
Hey Yue thanks for stopping by. I love the Hyperfreak O'Neill suits and they are all I wear now. You are right though, the 'smooth skin' on this suit in particular (Blueprint) did go kinda quick (I surf 5-6 times a week though). It is for sure warmer than the Hyperfreak suits though that don't have the smooth skin. O'Neill does have a great warranty on their wetsuits they will honor (1 year) so if you get a suit and have issues with in it a year, they will repair or replace it. They actually replaced this suit when I sent it back after the winter due to the smooth skin peeling moreso than normal and causing some leaking into the bottom areas. It is a recycled material and is new to O'Neill, so I bet the next version will be even better. Also kinda cool they are starting to implement recycled materials into a lot of their other suits now too (like the Hyperfreak short arm full and long arm short). The 'technobutter' materiel does go a bit quicker than a normal wetsuit, but that's because it is by far the stretchiest and most comfortable. It is like wearing clothing, and why I switched all my rubber to O'Neill suits with the technobutter 3 and 3x. I prefer the performance I gain over longevity. Hope that helps!
Hi, loved the review! stuck between this and the hyper freak. Would you say this is like “noticeably” warmer than the hyper freak. As I am looking at the hyper freak just due to the fact I’ll probably be doing more than just surfing in and was told the hyper freak is the most flexible, wondered if could help on the matter :)
Hey TF Media, Thanks for stopping by and the comment. I’d say this suit is warmer than the Hyperfreak. The smooth skin material does a better job at cutting wind and also let’s in a little less water due to its repellency. BUT - the smooth skin goes bad kinda quickly, I had to send mine back for warranty cause the smooth skin gets cut and torn really easily - even more than the hyperfreak technobutter material which is also a bit fragile. The upside to both suits though outweighs the delicacy. If your doing kitesurfing or kinda windier sports, blueprint could be good. Again though- the new smooth skin material seems to be an experiment O’Neill was trying that I think they will definitely refine and make better. There’s a new ‘hyperfreak fire’ that has fluid weld seems so it’s like a hyperfreak, but warmer. But the fluid weld seems on the Hyperfreak Fire make it less flexible, so it’s another debate between those two haha. I’d prob get the Hyperfreak Fire instead of the Blueprint though. If your in water tat doesn’t go below 57/58 (F) I think regular Hyperfreak 4/3 is good. Let me know what you choose or any questions. Either way, all the O’Neill suits that have ‘technobutter’ are awesome and it’s all I wear now haha. Peace.
@@TravisVarga Thank you very much for the feedback! Ended up going with the Hyperfreak as there was a very good deal due to the newer hyperfreak fire coming out and it is serving me well :) It is more than enough warmth even for my cold British swims, well see how they improve on the blueprint I guess.
@@tomfodenfilm Epic man, glad you pulled the trigger and dig the suit. Now you won't be able to wear any other wetsuit brand cause the technobutter is the best haha. Enjoy those British waters.
