    The best way to ride safer is to stop riding like an idiot. Riding alert and responsively eliminates most dangerous situations. Riders can create their own dangerous situations or they can prevent most of them by driving sensibly. Rarely do I see riders in these videos who aren’t 100% responsible for their crash. If car drivers drove like these riders, they’d be arrested for reckless driving and suspended.

    Lane splitting is not a passe or casual feat. Yet online it is unintentionally presented as a right rather than a privilege. The people having issues with vehicles in front of them while lane splitting are not using the escape that is ALWAYS there. That is the space you occupy-- Use the brakes. Just like the guy that hit the curb at night, if you can't swerve to one side or the other in a pinch, you are too close to something. Stopping is the only recourse if you don't have a high power engine.

    A highly traveled road near me is in disrepair and by that I mean they keep applying bandaids. Their method is to fill with tar and then sprinkle what seems to be tiny gravel on top. Due to this, both lanes where the large bandaids are applied to low spots disperse this gravel across the lanes creating extremely hazardous conditions for all motorists and I will be filing complaints about it.

    • @abhibeckert
      @abhibeckert 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @craigmackay4909 You're talking about "lane filtering". Lane "splitting" specifically means going between moving traffic. Wether or not it's a good idea is a complex issue because you're relying on rider judgement as to the safety of an individual manoeuvre. In Australia you're allowed to split with another rider at any speed, and can split with a car in certain conditions (not the ones in this video).

    • @dancarlin5434
      @dancarlin5434 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I disagree, splitting and filtering when properly used are a highly effective tool for greatly increased rider safety, the root problems are it being improperly used and 4 wheelers reacting to it most poorly.
      Many people's driving skills have taken a sharp decline in recent years as well as thier has been a sharp increase in road rage, we need to find out why, and find ways to correct both.

    So being a Dutch bike rider myself, I was drawn to this part at 27:28 situated on a Dutch road😊.
    Myself would never overtake when approaching an intersection.
    But it seems like you dismissed the fact that not just the indicator lights weren't on, neither seemed the brake lights to be working when the car slowed down heavily.
    Defensive driving gets harder when people don't keep their vehicles in shape 😅
    I don't know how it works in the US but this car would not pass the mandatory anual checkup (or APK) if not fixt, or risk getting a fine for not having working brake lights.
    Good video.
    Agree on the road signs awareness, reading the road helps alot for having a safe ride.

      @broworm1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey man, fellow dutch rider here, im 90% sure the car just used engine braking to slow down there. we do this all the time too on the bike, not unexpected with car drivers. (Personally in bad light conditions/traffic behind i still tap the brakes for the brake light). APK/vehicle condition discussion is a bit of a stretch imo.
      The only reason this was a dangerous situation is 100% the rider imo, he could've expected a slow car at an intersection == turning car, though obiviously the car should've indicated. If the car turned left he'd be fucked. It's illegal to overtake on an intersection anyways, which imo is a more dangerous offense than not indicating..

    The husband and wife should have a Cardo but still it's not always a rider in your group behind you. She needs to learn how to exit a road safely and in general that means don't turn across the lane like that. In my country moving as far over to the edge of the road as you safely can isn't just good advice it's the law and you need to demonstrate that (unprompted, they just watch your technique at intersections) or you will fail your license test.

    One bit of advice for riders, car drivers are not mentally trained to judge your speed and distance. They can judge the spacing of a cars headlights, the wider they are the closer the car. With duel lamp bikes at night, all they see is a distant car. The driver can also judge the closing speed of the oncoming car during the day by how quickly that headlight spacing widens and they can't do that with a bike. Thankfully, 95% of the time I find that cars just wait even though they had plenty of time to enter traffic (they expect me to be speeding). It is the other 5% you need to be covering your brakes for.

    • @neonsamurai1348
      @neonsamurai1348 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Smaller objects are also much harder to gauge closing speed and distances, as they don't visually get bigger as quickly vs a car or truck (all of this is made more difficult when using a mirror). Also most drivers do not expect other vehicles to be going much beyond the speed limit. This is one way in which speed kills. I always find it ironic when motorcyclists in these videos get mad at drivers "cutting them off" when the rider is going significantly faster than the posted limit.

    Dan be not paying attention sometimes. That clip with the silver tacoma he sayin "if he slams on the brakes" when he already did, he brake checked the bike. And that leads me to believe he really was intentionally swerving into the bike because he was already road raging.
    Of course the clip begins before we see what the bike may have been doing to get brake checked, but it was a road rage incident.

    The guy that ran over the deer at 9:15 (and presumably got guts and blood on the underside of his bike) reminds me of my wife, who ran over a dead deer that was in the middle of the highway at night. She had her 2007 Toyota Yaris (which has like 4 inches of clearance) and she was going about 80 mph, so she had no time to react before running over the deer. She quickly pulled over and called the highway patrol. She told them that the deer was laying in the middle of the road, and the officer replied, “Not anymore!” It did $4,000 worth of damage to the car and the mechanic said that first he had to power wash the skin, guts and bone out from the undercarriage! It can get quite messy.
