It's a disc detainer lock so he'd just pull out 'the pick that Bosnian Bill and I made'... OTOH, he did have a go at the Titan's Treasure lock, but he admitted that he approached it differently because his hobby is picking lock rather than solving puzzles.
@@MarcSiqueira If the key fully rotates it cannot be picked with that pick. However, LPL would have quickly figured that tensioning this lock is the key to solve this puzzle (pun intended).
@@MarcSiqueira The instructions do say "no tools" and LPL would follow that. However, he would still pick this in a minute or two because it is essentially a lockpicking puzzle
Purse can also mean handbag and that's the shape of the lock. As people have also mentioned it's called a disk-detainer lock, a bunch of disks that each need to be rotated to the right place, when they are a side bar can fall into place,. The sidebar would be the long peice you could see going the lengh of the lock. The pin/tool you got looks like a normal key pin (from a pin tumbler lock, not from a disk detainer), so kinda cute that it's used as a tool to decode the disk detainer. Keep up the awesome work!
Interesting. It is a classic here in Sweden. Everyone had those when I was young. In fact if I go to the attic of my apartment building today, everyone has these locks on their storage door.
At a minute in to the solution I was thinking get the key and slowly rotate and remove after getting multiple and internal barrels into place. It's definitely a lock pickers puzzle due to the need to align/position the barrels inside.
I believe it's because this padlock is shaped like a typical woman's purse and the object is to get a key that this woman accidentally locked inside her purse. But I haven't finished the video yet to see if you deciphered the language
Did the author disclose how the lock was modified in the first place? This lock type should rotate approximately 90-95 degrees to clockwise direction from the starting position with wrong (or partially inserted) key and about 180 degrees to open the lock with a correct key. If the key rotates full rotation the lock core has been modified. One possible modification that comes to my mind is to use thinner sidebar than normally and using the end of the sidebar as the locking part for the lock instead of core cylinder that this lock type normally uses.
If you turn off the sound and show someone the video after the introduction. It looks like the Lock Picking Lawyer is having a really hard time opening a lock. It's shocking!
And we did back in 1994 when I did "lumpen" too. Funny that we lock our weapons using Abloy's minimum security padlocks (which I learnt here in the comments)!
Very often locks are used by military forces not to _prevent,_ but instead to discourage and _indicate,_ unauthorized entry. And at least in most US usage, the equivalent low-security locks would themselves be behind other security measures such as locked doors, fences, and guards and other personnel.
In Engeland a purse is something like a wallet. in America a woman's purse is referring to her handbag. The lock is kind of shaped like a handbag I think the creator ment that with the purse reference.
I would say this is a puzzle meant for somebody who is familiar with lockpicking. They will probably solve it pretty easily, but they should be adviced that it is forbidden to use any external tools!
It's cool, but more a custom lock to pick than what I'd consider a classic puzzle. I'm not saying there's not some overlap since opening a lock with picks is basically solving a puzzle you can't see. Still, there are channels devoted to lock picking where this would have far higher interest than here.
funny ... it`s like you had filmed me solving. tried in the same sequence the same things ... and in the end, solved by luck. was a nice journey with a not quite satisfying end ... but please solve Sashko's other lock on cam. It is great :)
Do you have the straight key or the one I used? It should be not possible to open it by luck with the straight key. I solved the Titan lock already shortly after it was released. I also sent a copy to the LPL and he opened it in a few minutes. 😁 There is a video about it.
@@Mr.Puzzle I have the straight key … worked with the pin in the right way … but solved it more or less with luck, without any understanding. Yes, saw the video of LPL … that was impressive. I needed hours to figure it out.
As far as I can tell. Maybe just me, but if you look at the lock and even has that thing to keep it stand up sort of looks like a purse if you look at it. Which like somebody said here is the hand bags you see people carry.
I'm fairly certain I could have this video on repeat and still struggle to solve it, but cool puzzle nonetheless. Maybe it appeals more to a different demographic but it was a pleasure to watch.
its not every day you see a disk detainer lock picked with a key blank. it's a puzzle that, in a pinch, also serves as somewhat of an introduction to disk detainers, which you definitely don't see every day. As purely a puzzle it's not the best, but it's definitely an interesting idea.
Where I live the shape often associated with a purse is the same shape as this lock in this video, so I immediately knew the lock was the purse, but I hadn't thought about the fact that the common symbol for a woman's purse or handbag is shaped differently all over the world

you did well for it not being your forte. it’s 7/5 on the difficulty scale bc you’re not familiar with all the nuances of lock picking, but you still got steps correct because part of the solve was sequential discovery. My mistake would have been to put the post back together on the swivel end, which would have not led me to seeing the pin hole or being able to put pressure on the shackle. I was like, why isn’t he… and then it dawned on me, you screw the post together and then you can’t put pressure on the shackle. oops. Also! who would have guessed what the meaning of the engraving was?! You did! that was, even if accidental, really cool!
If somebody has this puzzle and is willing to take it apart, you can see how this lock body can be teared down from this video: th-cam.com/video/ufMYIbhH3ao/w-d-xo.html (This video is about modified version of the original Abloy padlock where the official Abloy Classic core has been swapped with Abloy Exec core which has the same dimensions. Abloy never officially manufactured this purse/handbag shaped padlock with Abloy Exec core!) If you tear down the puzzle, I'd love the see video or photos of the inside. I'd assume it has most of the discs replaced with pipe sections and you basically pick the 3 disc variant of the real Abloy Classic padlock using the shackle + small metal part for feedback for the sidebar movement. To pick the real Abloy lock, you have to do about the same but do it for 7-11 disks at the same time.
cool puzzle what no graphic description on paper. seemed more manipulation- less science of understanding on how it was unlocked,.also the one key -doesn't it allow you to unscrew the bolt on shackle as the cut out key does?as a result its a 4/5.
