Brian according to a vague website, that house was built by Hommer C. Kenner. He was 12th of 14 children to James & Gracie (Miller) Kenner. He worked the family ranch with his brothers & sisters. He married Clarebelle Elley in 1954, they moved into that log cabin house in 1967 while they built the new house, construction on the new house started in 1968. That log cabin was built in 1894 by Hommer's great grandfather. In the late 70's he moved his family to Minnesota to take a teaching job with the University of Minnesota. He died Jan. 11, 2020. The Kenner Ranch and that log cabin and house were all donated to the State Of Colorado. From the early 1980's to mid 1990's the house was used as a hunting lodge.....
KELLY ! What a nice surprise ending ! ... Very nice video Brain , I loved seeing the old abandoned homestead that was in the valley. Thumbs UP to you :-)
Oh my heavens it was so cool to see Kelly at the end. Love it when you go on the adventure hikes and looked to be a relatively newer home due to the siding and roof. Apparently someone lived there at one time and what a place to live at. Hi Kelly Brian enjoyed seeing the area. Take care and hugs to both.
What fun - I love finding abandoned homes out in the wild. It's a reminder of how much has changed as the West continues to dry up & its cool to see how independent people used to be. Think of all the skills people had to have & the planning it would have taken to get by between trips to town! Hi Kelly! Nice to see you. Those empanadas with all the veggies looked great.
What a beautiful fine to find abandoned house if those walls could talk and tell you the stories of the people that used to live there Simply Beautiful peaceful and tranquil
Cornish pasties, smothered in brown gravy... good old immigrant northern Minnesota and Michigan ore mining grub! Best food around! 😋 Here's an interesting Duluth MN bit of history: used to be a long standing stripper bar down by the lake shore named Club Saratoga. Attached to the building was a little diner that fed the local workers for lunch. It was the industrial area back before tourism took over. They served the best pasties one day every week. Only place that made use of the word Pasties in both ways that I know about. 🤣
Brian that place looked magical ! Great idea wearing that hat. We want you around for a long time brother ! Your content is inspiring! Nice little surprise with Kellie (sp?)at the end haha. That made me laugh. Safe Travels Amigos !! 👊🏼👊🏼
I bought mine a year ago, stayed in my van and I finally used my Fireside Outdoor Pop-Up-Pit for the first time over the Thanksgiving holiday. What a gem of finding that old ranch house, if it could tell of the stories of the past.
Brian, the orange hat is very smart! However I wanted to tell you that most hunter regulations call for at least 400 square inches of orange, so I would recommend you also get an orange vest. Keep up the awesome videos!
YAY! Kelly is back! That was a great find, (the old Kenner Ranch) thanks for sharing. Also, I recommend next time using pie crust for the meat pies, they looked really tasty. Take care and stay safe. Peace.
You made what the Yoopers call a pasty .meat potatoes carrots onions rutabagas and lard.. it's what the Scandinavian silver miners brought with them from the old country to the upper peninsula of Michigan they would pack them and take them into the copper mines for lunch and they heated them on their shovel over their lantern . If you want to eat the best ones on the planet and you're ever in the upper peninsula again stop in munising at a place called Muldoon's. They have the best ones I've ever eaten.
Yup, we're all wearing orange now! Colorado strikes me with it's variety of terrain. Noticed that fire tray, good to hear you like so far.👍😎🇨🇦🔥 HI Kelly! Nice to see you!
Was so happy to see a new video posted!, my husband walked past the tv & heard your voice and his eyes lit up & he said,” he’s got a new one already?” The ending was wonderful seeing Kelly’s face, we looked at each other in excitement 🤣, good ending!
Cool area to be camped with the canyon right out your back door. The one lonely tree down in the canyon still holding on to its leaves in fall colors really stood out. Hi Kelly ☮
Kelly, glad to see you made it out west! Brian, I bought the 12 x 12 pop up pit in June. It has the grill grate on top. I really like it. Awesome video!!
Thanks for another fine video, Brian. :D I think the pop up firepit is an excellent idea. You'll be able to have fires in many places when ground fires are prohibited. Years ago I used to carry the lid from an old metal garbage can for the same purpose. I always loved having a fire in the evening. I'm happy to see Kelly back too!
Great adventure started with breakfast went on a walk came upon a mystery house watched the sunset treated with dinner and a peek of your traveling companion .
Having grown up in flat lands of Eastern VA, I always find the vistas available in more variegated terrain captivating. I need to get out there and see some of that in person. Thanks for sharing!
I remember when I lived in Silverthorne, Colorado, I would hike the mountains, and would come across old camps and abandoned mining towns. It was great.
Fascinating canyon. Brian, the explorer!! Thanks for sharing. Too bad we couldn't peek inside. Probably nothing there, though. Yay, Kelly is back. I missed you, Kelly. Such a sweet smile. Great company.
Great video Brian! What a beautiful location. Broke into a big smile at your special guest at the end! 💗😊 Hoping to catch up with you in Jan. We're camp hosting at Padre Island right now. Happy trails!
Your videos combine Van life, hiking, outdoor adventure, and culinary! Great combination and your storytelling always draws us in. Thanks again Brian (or “Brian Beets” as I refer to you!) Namaste
Great find, I noticed the basement door was ajar ... just say'in. I just made Spaghetti Bolognese with onions, mushies, fresh baby tomatoes and Italian tomato sauce ... yum.
Hey Brian..was wondering about your portable fire pit..looks pretty cool 👍 Great place to explore..nice to see Kelly caught up to you ! Take care and enjoy 😁
Such a sweet ending. But let's back up. And to think when you dropped in on this place you were just wanting to find a spot to camp. You seemed to have no idea what was there and now look. All that amazing stuff is there.
Thanks! That was very interesting. You could spend a while exploring that canyon, a very picturesque area. I think at least one of the Kenners moved to La Junta. A hundred miles east on highway 10 there is a Kenner Ranch on flat land: 28109 Co Rd Y La Junta, Colorado
Awesome episode. Those meat pies did look goooood! I always try to wonder how hard it must have been to live out there especially in that old cabin, great find.
Hi Brian, dang what an experience thanks for taking us along! I’ve always loved sitting back and thinking about who settled in places like that, so fascinating. I’m digging the pop up fire pit also. Nice addition to your menu great idea and simple. Oh what a surprise Kelly lol! Also, if you could spare the time to let me know what kind of video camera you use, I would appreciate that! Safe travels 🦅✌🏼🙏
Love it! WOW I really enjoyed this video I love getting out and exploring new areas. Keep showing us new recipes. I'm definitely going to try that meat pie Looks delicious You should have a segment on cooking while camping exploring different recipes. Thanks 👍 Thanks Bud.
Yay!!! Kelly is back. That was a great surprise. I enjoyed this video. Definitely an adventure going to see the house, and you're right about the water traveling through the gulch. The drone video was wonderful also.
Thanks for another awesome video! You made me really hungry seeing the steak and eggs and the meat pies. The sunset was absolutely beautiful. Great way to end a video...sneak peek from Kelly! Hope you two have a great day! ☺
