Jack Buck and Mike Shannon made the baseball games so much fun to listen to. Glad I grew up in the eighties.

If you grew up in the St. Louis area (or the Midwest) in the '70's/'80's/'90's, Jack Buck was part of your childhood. I, of course, remember all of those calls, but my favorite was when I pointed a cassette recorder microphone at the radio and recorded Lou Brock's 105th stolen base as it happened on 9/10/74. I STILL have that 15-minute recording (!) God Bless You, Jack! You were an even BETTER man than a broadcaster...

No doubt. I’d easily put him ahead of anyone not named Vin Scully. Those two are without a doubt 1 and 2 in the greatest baseball announcers of all time, and no one is even remotely close to them.

@@antonfilms4023 Well said. And I listen to the slobbering Mike Shannon whom the Cardinals continue to employ, and wonder what happened to the standards once demanded for broadcasters.
I grew up listening to Jack, Harry Caray and occasionally Bob Costas do Cardinals baseball. The immortal Dan Kelly doing Blues' hockey, the great Bob Starr doing St. Louis Cardinals Football in STL, all on KMOX in STL.
Now it's the ill-prepared Shannon, who doesn't know what day it is... And the lazy Chris Kerber doing Blues' hockey. How times have changed.

I was stationed in Italy in 1998 during the McGwire home run chase, and I tuned in the game on AFN, and usually, you'd get the national announcers on the radio, but for whatever reason, they had Jack and Mike's call on the broadcast. What a touch of home that was! It was a game about mid-season where McGwire was ejected early in the game and the fans were throwing things on the field. Jack remained calm and classy the entire time.

Buck's statue dedication was the following day. During his acceptance speech, he asked the fans to applaud the umpires when they walked on the field that day to show them who Cardinal fans really were. The fans, at his behest, gave the umpires a standing ovation. Few can command that level of respect from and entire fan base.

Dodgers had the best record in baseball in 1985 and were up 2-0 in the NLCS, but St. Louis came back to win the series 4-2, w/ the Ozzie and Clark HR's off Tom Niedenfuer. My dad told me that the Clark blast was the most painful Dodger HR allowed he's ever experienced. I can equal him in pain, w/ the Matt Stairs HR from the '08 NLCS Game 4.

Echoing 'machalot'. This is an 8:31 travesty. Game 6 1991--Kirby Puckett's GW HR "...and we'll see ya tomorrow night!" might be the greatest call in the history of sports. It's the only reason I clicked on this clip. Whoever posted/edited this is clueless.

How many big home runs did Tom Niedenfuer give up to blow big games? He gave up 3 different huge home runs to the Cardinals to blow huge games. He was a real goat.

God I love Jack Buck. I'll never forget his call of the 1991 world series. You wouldn't happen to have his "We'll see you tomorrow night" call of Kirby Puckett's HR in game six in 91 would ya?

Sad news, everyone. As you may or may not have heard, Lou Brock died on Sunday. After nearly two decades, he and Jack are together again.😢
