It's helpful. I was in special ed, and it ruins our lives. One of my disabilities is that I have parents. I can laugh now, but there is no escape for us, no future. They did things like take me out of the classroom to do a bunch of packet work, and I missed class only to be tested like everyone else. Loads of testing. I've had several predatory teachers. They put me in multiage, different math classes that confuse everyone, kept not working on the reading when that was what messed me up in class. I taught myself how to read with the "Mind Warp" series, learned basic math on a toy computer, and I learned how to type and write basic stories thanks to "Read, Write, And Type." Now I'm hunted for fun and have schizophrenia and many other issues. I'd record the meeting. This detail here had a strong impact on our lives. What is the point of ABCs with us? The other children hate us, too. You fall into the wrong hands, let's put it that way. Corey Johnson was obviously disabled and slightly retarded. He killed a drug addict and had issues with a rival gang, killing several of those people. The gang leaders and drug addicts are the people Blue Stahli is supposed to kill. They get Corey. I get to fight Jeris Johnson. No, I am not attracted to Mr. Johnson. It's like, are you seriously going to use that against me again? I became even more disabled as a teen and adult. I can't fight back or try to explain. Everyone says I'm doing way better since I've been in the facility. They've tried a few things.
I am so glad I found your channel! As a special ed. teacher I get very frustrated that schools do not make the student services a priority. If more parents invoked their rights schools would have to allow teachers the time that we need to give those services.
Speech therapist here drafting some documents. THANK YOU for doing this!! you are awesome. All special education teachers, service providers, administrators and evaluators should be required to listen to you!!
I really appreciate everything you are saying, IEP meetings give me great anxiety, and you must have at our IEP meeting. it's really hard and mentally draining, i worry about my daughter every day. she's 7 years old, and it breaks my heart 😢
Hi, thank you for all this informative information. So this past school year I had a problem at my child’s school. In the beginning of the school year (2022-2023) I set a meeting with my son teacher letting her know there was some changes in his behavior and academics. I told her that her rewarding system chart wasn’t working for him if anything it was stressing him out and shaming him in front of all his peers ( he would come home stress, saying his a bad listener, a bad boy, and he would his his head) and all she said was for me to come up with a different strategy and when I do, to let her know. At that moment I felt like she left me aloud instead of coming up with a solution to help my child. Moving forward, for every parent conference we had she kept telling me about his behavior, how it wasn’t improving, he kept disrupting the class because he wanted to answer all the questions not giving his peers a chance to answer the questions, he would get up from his seat very often, he wanted to take breaks in between because his hand would hurt and his brain would hurt etc. Not once she told me to get him tested for an IEP. Instead at the end of the school year a parent over heard my sons teacher sharing his academics information to another parent and teacher, laughing, and saying how my son was a misbehave student and didn’t deserve to be a star student. Anyways, I just feel like if she would have help me this would’ve never happened. I really feel like she neglected him. What can I do? I mean, I don’t know about you but I feel like some people shouldn’t be working in this profession if they’re not coming from an understanding place or not willing to help the parents.
I love this. We feel like an army is colluding against us with my daughter. I'm telling us they want what's best for my child. When Dave showed they don't even know much about my child after spending 6 hours a day with her. They didn't know my daughter knew her letters, shapes or colors. So yeah I love your attitude
Could you please do a video about SPED- LEP parents RIGHTS and TITLE VI. People need to learn about this and topic, use of interpretation, can this be done with over the phone interpretation, virtual or in person service? Can a school district use a bilingual staff or even de teacher or bilingual principal to interpret the ARD Meetings? What are the rules? Translation of documents? What is supposed to be translated, interpreted? Who is considered an able person to interpret ARD meetings. What are the specific rules from TEA, IDEA about all this. Thanks for doing this and taking the time to help others with your knowledge.
It’s not the end of the year, they put misinformation on my child’s record to get back at me for telling the truth about illegal actions the principal did. They targeted him I got a ard advocate, who couldn’t help with the discrimination or harassment and they gave bare minimum support and continued to punish punitively for repetitive behavior relating to autism and adhd stressing my kid out to no end. Putting him in the nurses office for recovery every chance they got. They already gave the state the misinformation on the record and I wish I got a discrimination lawyer.
Actually she’s right on. I’m only discovering it’s a nation wide epidemic that kids aren’t getting their IEP implemented therefore kids get suspended or expelled for the very accommodations they’re supposed to be getting but aren’t
Our ten-year-old daughter has medically diagnosed Autism, ADHD, and Anxiety. She has a current 504, a documented history of falling behind academically, has meltdowns, and elopes. The school has held our first PPT meeting so we can implement an IEP for her. Last week she had a meltdown and was subsequently given an in-school suspension. Other special needs parents we talk to say she should have an IEP now (given her standing diagnoses) to serve her educational and safety needs, and that it can be amended after the 45 days of testing. Should a school implement an IEP in such a case?
I can tell you just how bad my IEP messed me up mentally for my last 2 years in high school. Not to mention the thousands of dollars my parents ended up paying because of my good old IEP. Let's start with telling you I'm Dyslexic and have ADHD. Really sucked at spelling and reading, and certain kinds of math . a problem at times. I was just a normal kid. So I always hated school from a young child just hated it, often come home crying just because the school wanted to label me different from normal kids. Fast forward to high school , now im very depressed and dealing with horrible anxiety. Something I still battle with at times. Parents got divorced was a big part of it. So Truancy came finally for me. Now, the court and school are involved . I ask to be able to do online school because they just had started to get popular back in 2009/2010. I was denied because of my IEP. They told me and my parents straight up basically to dumb in other worlds .to different from normal kids lol, so what happens instead to me . Well, I was looked at and treated like a criminal, basically. I broke the law so bad that they put me on house arrest for over 5 dang months, parents had to pay 85 dollars a day, while I had that stupid thing around my ankle. My mom and dad tried for months to let me just drop out and let me do online classes. Well that's when they found out they never had parent rights over me. That stupid IEP took that alway. There was nothing they could do. School and court made that perfectly clear. Once they said they could have control me till I was 21. We were all dumbfounded when they said that. To emd this story with a big BANG!! As I was on house arrest like the bad criminal, for being depressed and Dyslexic. I finally got super depressed, and I can only imagine why ,right? lol. On the 5th month on house arrest. I gave up and stayed home. Until February 13th. Then my Dangerous self had to go to court. Told the judge, crying in front of her how depressed and being on house was mentally messing with me. Even had a psychiatrist note. Stating that putting me juvenile jail was not the right way to do things. You know what this horrible judge told me. " who cares that you're depressed and deal with anxiety? Do you think you're the only person that deals with that?" Then, for some reason, she had the nerve to say" your gonna be 24 and have 4 different baby mommas, and you're gonna be a dead beat dad. " Half the court room was stunned after that was said. So then she sent me to juvie for 14 days until I turned 18. That 375 dollars day to stay, on top of my 5 months of house arrest.. that's how my IEP ruined my life for many years after. i'm thirty-one now. And I still battle with those horrible memories and how I was treated like a criminal. I've never been to jail since all that happen. Nor have I knocked up any girls either, lol
My child’s last school retaliated against me last year and messed up my child’s iep in a cover up of their lies on my child’s record, retaliating against me speaking to the school about the principal scratching me. Should I address their lies and issues with new school in hopes of fixing the iep?
I had my very first IEP meeting mind you. My kiddo is 3. Since day 1 of evaluation the school and myself have had disagreements because they are rude. I stop them before doing anything to my child and ask to explain what they are doing. It’s respect, boundaries and consent. You cannot just come up to kid with something to insert in her ears to do a hearing test without telling what you’re doing. Needless to say they absolutely hate me. IEP meeting didn’t go great we disagreed so here I am doing my research because I refuse to sign anything 🫣
i just found your video and I live in FL during an IEP meeting yesterday i asked about recording I was responded with the meeting are not recorded and I do not have permission to record. Is that their right since fl is a 2 way record authorization state, what does this mean. sorry just started looking in my right because this was th e 1st pushback encountered where they want to stop speech service and i feel the need to continue
We have had a sub that was not qualified for special Ed classes for the last 6 months I requested an iep meeting because I don’t feel his needs are being met and he’s been giving food he is allergic to and not allowed to have so on the iep meeting invite they have his speech teacher labeled as the speech and the special Ed teacher is that allowed even though she is only in 1-2 times a week ?
Should a gen ed teacher attend if they do not know who the student is? Teachers at my site are required to attend 6 IEPs per year. Knowing the student is not a requirement. I used to be a sped teacher, however, I allowed my credential to lapse (I now teach AP and IB courses for college credit). I do not mind attending, but I have always wondered about signing those IEPs when I have no understanding or educational involvement with the student and I simply do not know them. I am there for my signature only. Could this come back on me?
I just found out last meeting IEP that my grandson accommodations have not been implemented from beginning of school. He’s been punished for the very accommodations he’s supposed to get
I ve been kicked out of school during i.e.p meeting cause I was jumped on school campus my 12th grade not to mention that they lost my transcript from the other school
Hi. For the first time I started working as a One to one School Aide of a 6 years old boy whom parents don’t recognize he is special, he runs and tries to scape from his desk must all the time.. and I have to chase him in the classroom to try to help him to do his works. The rest of the class is regular students. Any recommendations for me as a lawyer as profession, but practical experience as mother with children? Thanks
Is a Conditional Certification valid to teach special education. I looked up my son’s teacher and she only held a Conditional Certificate for General Special Education. Is she qualified to teach Special Education?

This is very insightful. I hate that parents have to go through this.

You have given me so much knowledge, where to start, where to go, and my childs rights
NEED a video on rights when a child has medical issues. When the child is not able to attend school all the time.
I just found you and I am a loyal follower. Thank you for educating all of us to be the best that we can be. Knowledge is empowering.
Thank you so much for this!

Hi, Thank you for your question! Please email me at advocate@specialeducaionacademy.com
If districts get special education funding per child, why are they so reluctant to diagnose? This is such a frustrating mystery to me.
Because they funnel the money into their own pockets and pleasures.
IEP cost $2500 a year or a month?
I think someone did violated my rights
