I hope you’ve reached out to Paul and told him what you’ve done. He’s a pioneer and master craftsman, a class act and great person who’s currently going through some real challenges with his life. You’ve got a real treasure and it’s nice that you’ve made it shine again on the trail where it belongs. 🙂

Not to detract from the build, because that’s what we’re here for…but the ASMR aspect of your videos is just as appealing to me personally…HOWEVER, the music after the build is always SO ON POINT, and I thought worth mentioning. Please keep finding bikes with life left in them and sharing your perspective on how they should continue to live. Thank you.

I don't recall ever seeing you mention where you live, but it must be pretty awesome to be able to ride out to a trail with scenery like that!
I love the early mountain bikes. I've never had anything high end like that, or a Ritchey, but I do have an 84 Mongoose ATB that I hit the trails with, and I also have a white 90's Mongoose Switchback, and a hot pink GT Tequesta waiting for there chance to be restored... Love your videos... I actually just learned a trick to v-brakes from watching this one that I hadn't caught before... Backing the barrel adjusters all the way out when connecting the cable... Then turning it back in. I'll be doing that on my next project. Thanks!

I have an early 2000s steel frame Brodie that languished in storage for years as it just wasn't as "fun" or capable as my newer bikes. Out of curiosity I converted it to a single speed setup last year and its an absolute blast to ride once more! Looks like someone else may have had the same idea.

Brodie is oldie, but goldie! ;) Beautiful build and video, I have only two observations. It seems to me that the headset bowls could be put in reverse, then the Chris King lettering wouldn't be upside down (1). And then, next time for us non US folks, if you could switch the scale to kilograms as well just for a moment when weighing so we don't have to recalculate (2). Thanks a lot and happy biking. Cheers from Czechia! :)

My nephew just brought home a 90's CCM (crap) in a similar style that actually has a very nice aluminum frame with replaceable deraullier hanger and really clean welds. I am going to show him this, and your channel in general, and see if he shows any interest in building it up. He likes my bike but I dont think he has the confidence yet to even think of building his own and I would like to get him started. Just starting with some new handlebars/grips/pedals/chain/sealed bearing BB and some new cables...stuff that looks cool, though mostly, so that he stays interested. Eventually though, I would like him to be doing things like rebuild the fork, bearing pack a headset or wheel, etc. I think the frame he has could easily be built to around 22lbs...I had a chromoly rigid 26", a cheap bike, and it weighed around 22lbs stock. My current bike, stock, a 2010 Trek 3700, weighs around 27lb or so (just guessing, have never weighed it). If I removed replaced the 3x crank with a 1x, got some lighter wheels, and replaced my steel handlebars with aluminum, it might be down to 25lbs. Also...those are the tires I have planned on for ages...I am in the middle of building an ebike, and those are probably the coolest looking tires I have found that dont cost more than my bike.

Kinda torn on this one. I'm not a fan of 1x drivetrains on old bikes - but I very much like the 10spd thumbshifter. I also don't like V-brakes on frames that have so much effort put into cantilever cable routing - but using the front derailleur cable housing stop for the rear V-brake is inspired.

@paulbrodie - nice bike Mr Brodie. What was origin of its name? Flying Purple People Eater II? 😅 Or let it remain a secret.🤫

hate that you talk about brodie like he's no longer with us. he's alive and well, ya know. putting out youtube content just as often, if not more often, than you do

I’m sorry it came across that way to you, that was not my intention. I am a huge fan of Paul and his work and content, I love his way of teaching and his easy going attitude. He is a legend. I’m sorry it offended you so much.

@@oldshovel i'm not offended, sorry my comment came across that way to you, that was not my intention. just a head scratcher that you're referring to him in the past tense when he's still building and repairing bikes to this day.
