Awesome video and thanks so much for sharing. It has been about 50 years since I flew to this unique airport. If I recalled, this airport was surrounded by wealthy retirees vacation homes.

I was at this airport just a day or two before you flew in. Fun to see all the different acrobatic planes. I like all your videos, your commentary is always great.

I give you so much credit for this being your first XC, I went to Twenty Nine Palms and I was nervous enough 😅.

@ I grew up in and around there. I also had my first power off on departure there. One at 500’ and one at 800’ during training to try and make it back to the airport. I was able to do 800’ and make the runway in a pa28. 500’ couldn’t do but was able to make the turn around and end up short.
I don’t fly there when windy kind of like tonight’s winds.

@@RaceMentally Oh wow, that is pretty cool you did those power offs, if there was any airport to practice at, it is definitely that one. 😅

@ I learned fly it to the closest straightest flattest area to land that you can. DONT turn around!!!

Great video! Way back May of 1990 I was flying right seat to my friend in a PA-28 from TOA to L08 and back. We wanted to fly there because the company we both worked for as ramp agents at Skywest (formally SunAire) flew there out of LAX in the early days. So we wanted to check it out. Boy.... the approach to RWY 26 there was all moderate turbulence all the way down. In fact, it was so bad we went around to try it again, as trying to maintain a stable approach was extremely difficult (and we both had 400+ hours at the time each). We tried the approach again and decided it was not worth banging up a rented PA-28. The VSI was pegged on the approach, both up and down at times! I did get a good pic of Palomar Observatory on the way back.

Oh that's such a cool story. Funny, on the way there my wife looked outside and saw the observatory too and now she wants to go. Credit to you guys for making the decision not to land, the question is ultimately, am I safer landing or not landing. 😅
Did you every find your way back to L08 eventually?
      Oh and thank you🙏
