    One of the cons that none of the video blogs talk about is the crime in Oahu and how it is increasing. I follow both KITV 4 ,Hawaii News Now and KHON2 and there is always something at least several times a week like shootings,stabbing, raped, children going missing, corruption with politicians and law enforcement. Everyone gives the perception that these aren't happening and everything is Aloha. You also mentioned the water but no one says anything about the major water contamination with jet fuel. And that every time there is a major storm you can't go into the water because of a brown water warning. I am trying to be negative but truth in advertising!! Because everyone gives this perception that's a mainland problem.

    living in town (Ala Moana area) one huge con for me are the inconsiderate people with loud motorcycles, mopeds, trucks, racing cars, and boom boxes that purposely rev up their engines and accelerate frequently throughout the day and night. The motorcycle clubs with 20-30 guys parading throughout town are the worse. Drives me nuts and makes my blood boil!

    Just wanted to note how weird it feels to watch one of these videos while I’m actually in Hawaii this week.
    We all know the pros…Hawaii speaks for itself when ur here. The sun, ocean, air, mountains and cheap plate lunches everywhere speaks for themselves.
    The cons that come to mind for me in my two days here thus far are sunburn, how it sux to be a bad swimmer…and the biggest are that the roads and streets are hard as $#&@ to figure out because they are narrow, not logically planned and many are one way streets that will need to be learned over time.

    why dont you guys have solar? I keep hearing you guys say that electricity is expensive. Why isn't solar bigger there? It seems like an easy solution to the price tag of electricity.

    • @movingtohawaii
      @movingtohawaii  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is big but if you don’t plan to keep or occupy the home for decades to come, it makes less sense. Also if you can’t sell excess back to the electric company it makes less sense.

    • @9-1-juan6
      @9-1-juan6 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@movingtohawaii hi Derek, about the electic company not buying excess - is that true for all of Oahu (or even for all of Hawaii)?

    • @michaellatta
      @michaellatta 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are 23parts to solar: reduced utility bills, 2) improved property value, 3) do good for the environment. If you are a heavy electric user 1 is about a 10 year payback. 2 is easier the higher the electric rate and thus the bill of a buyer. 3 is how much you feel good about it. We have guilt free A/C because of solar. We are about 5 years in, so if we stay here 2 more years all 3 will be about equal. Our utility is proposing to triple our prime rate, that would make it pay off sooner. It is about 10% of our housing cost, so a nice luxury but not a high burden. The 30% deduction helps a lot.

      Definitely a pain, but with the right resources it’s not too bad! I think we started our process around February and we got here in May, but we could have started later and still been okay. The Hawai’i DOA pet import checklist is a lifesaver and outlines everything you need to do for whichever island you’re headed to.

    I just moved here from NY about 3 months ago and there are so many pros but I’d have to agree with the dating in a small pond scenario as being a con. I’ve bumped into so many people in such a short amount of time from Walmart & shops to bars in Honolulu. Waikiki itself is like the size of Timesquare and outside of it there doesn’t seem like very much to do.

  • @markettradinggenius
    @markettradinggenius 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    yeah, hawaii in general and Oahu specifically isn't very diverse. For example, hawaii has lots of asians from different parts of asia which is the 'majority' of the islands. But, here in Virginia, we not only have regular everyday living 'civilians'(not military people) but we have lots of people from hawaii, asians, lots of hispanics, lots of africans from different parts of africa, etc..etc...So, in that respect, Virginia is way more diverse than Hawaii and very few people, here in Virginia, will ask you 'what is your ethnicity' simply because everyone has seen so many different people from everywhere else that it's not even a 'common sense' question to ask. And, being that I am from Oahu and went through all the ups and downs of living in such an environment, I can tell you that when I first moved to Virginia(it's been 2 years now that I've lived here in Northern Virginia), it was like 'heaven on earth'. As a side note, I found out that Virginia is a "high tech high touch state"; meaning that Virginia has more internet Nodes than any other state in the nation, beating out California, and that 70% of ALL internet traffic in the world passes through Virginia ! It all started with AOL internet company setting up shop here in Northern Virginia then other internet Giants followed in AOL footsteps and it simply had a snowball effect. With the elevated rail being built, taxes will continue going through the roof while more and more people continue to do what I did, and that is to migrate out of Hawaii into places like Virginia, Texas and Florida which will continue to put a bigger and BIGGER burden of the tax on a smaller and smaller population. The weather, as I must say, is perfect on Oahu, but the weather won't pay your taxes or your rent....lol....by the way, I have yet to be bitten by a mosquito here in Northern Virginia(I live in the Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania area of Virginia)

    Love your videos. Have a lot to say. Happy New Year, Everyone 🎉 !
    1) Kahe said HI has no poisonous animals, but you do have spiders, scorpions and wildlife that will chase you, such as wild pigs / boars and those damn cane spiders!
    2) Derek, please never choose rabies over ‘roaches because rabies is a baaaad buggah, and the shots you have to get if you are exposed to the disease are many and each, painful.
    3) Hawaii’s rainbows are lovely, intense kine though.
    4) In Hawai’i, rust invades everything metallic, and the closer you live to the ocean, the more it does. Yeah, just one fact of life.
    5) I love Hawaii’s food and ZIPPY’s!!!! No can eat da buggah, SPAM. Mystery meat it is: nuclear, radioactive, incogmeato (not neat-o!). Da “meat” will last longer in your pantry than Cher and cockroaches.
    6) So, if Hawai’i is so fertile and things grow so well there, why don’t you grow your own fruits and veggies? Why is so much fresh food imported? You got cows there, too. Beef should also be produced in the islands.
    7) Pro and Con means that everything revolves around hiking and the beaches. So, if you live doing those things, great! If you do not, well, you may be a bit hard pressed.
    8) In Hawai’i where you wen grad high school says a lot about you. On the mainland, where you to college MATTERS most!
    9) Cons are drugs and gangs. Plenny “ice” ova on da West side Oahu. Sad, shame. Kids get bored, feel hopeless too.
    10) I do not know how anyone can live without A/C in Hawai’i, unless you live up in the town called Volcano on da Big Island. There, you need one heater!
    11) Yes, swimming in fresh water is inadvisable after a rain and when the fresh water cannot drain out. The falls near Waimea, on Oahu are especially prone to being infested with fresh water bacteria.
    12) Just like mainland does not have ZIPPY’s so to does Hawai’i notngavevTrader Joe’s or IKEA, etc. Life is full of trade offs.
    13) I ❤ ❤ ❤ the aina in Hawai’i too, but what has saddened me over the years is seeing locals and native Hawaiians littering, too. Just throwing garbage on the ground and out a truck window, too. Really shocked me.
    I love your content, Guys.
    Happy New Year to you and yours!

    Would the Hawaiian Homelands Casino at Ka Makana Alii Mall at the End of the Rail line be a Pro or Con to the Islands?
    If it creates housing for the Hawaiians, huge pro.
    Make it a program that the Hawaiian kids are the future Home Builders of Hawaii. Give them something worthwhile and motivating to learn vs the School to Prison pipeline you see with the dropouts.
    Imagine all the tourists that would take the Rail to the Casino.
    Biggest Con - would Gambling Addiction destroy the Locals?
    You know Sam Boyd in Las Vegas don't want Casinos in Hawaii.

      EV's are a waste of electricity. Low mileage and the batteries are not safe to dispose of anywhere. My neighbors have two and they can only go to and from work. Most of the time the cars are charging. Then you see the EV brainwashed charging at the stations waiting, waiting, waiting. Lol. CO2 beneficial to plants as they thrive on CO2. Don't be fooled by the climate change alarmists.
