Gary (at MacMost :) You are the Bomb! I know I'm stating the obvious here, but, You. Are. The. Bomb. I actually had to stop and pause the video and write this. Thank you for being so reliable as my go to guy for all questions Mac. I'm learning so much from you!
Hello Gary, I just found your channel on Mac. I am learning so much from you about Pages. You do a great job and it’s much appreciated. Subscribed to your channel. I have a lot to get caught up on. Thanks Nick
I found your video very useful - you really helped me to do what I was needing to do which was to put my own picture as a background. You gave me what I needed and so much more. Great job!
Thank you for this video!! Such a simple thing that I have spent HOURS trying to to find info / figure out how to do it. Your video is extremely appreciated!
@macmost Great content as always! We need a video in which typing using english language (left to right) & Arabic language (right to left) can be written with respect to cursor position. What is split cursor? & other keyboard shortcuts?
Thanks for the video but my pages do not show the format & document in the same place as yours, making it difficult to follow. I wonder if its because I am in UK?
Gary, thanks for your very useful videos. I wonder how I can create one single page with Landscape format in a document.I have been searching this very simple function but I failed to find any help. Note: I only want a single page Landscape in a very large document. Thanks.
You can't. The page size is the same for the entire document. You'll need to create that one landscape page in another document and merge them in Preview afterwards. th-cam.com/video/vnJNqZc6Hz8/w-d-xo.html
I have a digital newsletter. I have a nice photo for the cover, but even playing around with different colors for text it is difficult to read. Is it possible to make like the bottom quarter of an image more opaque than the top?
Thanks for this tutorial. I'm trying to move from Word, which I've used for years, to Pages. Can a Pages document with a border design that is on the edge be converted to a fillable PDF? How can that be done? Thanks for your help!
Thanks for this very clear and concise video! Quick question...I've dragged a few backgrounds into pages from my desktop. Are they automatically saved in pages for later use or do I need to keep them stored on my computer?
I was hoping to find out how to add color fill to background of footers. I've searched for hours but still can't find a way to do it in Pages version 11
@@macmost Thanks. I couldn't find out how to do that, but finally solved the problem going to layout, borders and rules, paragraph background, selecting my color, which only filled out behind text but not entire footer. I then switched to style, where I was able to extend the color to fill the entire footer element by hitting the space bar at the end of the line of text until the color filled the whole area in. For anyone else struggling with this!
This is neat, but did they have to screw up the section editor to provide it? Ask to create a new section after an existing on and the new one appears BEFORE the original. So, to add a new section after an existing page, I have to go to the page AFTER where I want the new section to insert the new page. Likewise, when I uncheck the headers and footers box, it affects the previous section instead of the one I'm in. Being able to do quality book layout was always one of the best things about Pages, especially when you don't have time to learn Adobe. Now it seems like I have to relearn something essential every time there's an update.
Thanks so much, i've just subscribed. Question - is there a way to export to pdf with transparent background? I've set the background to transparent but when I export to PDF it's on a white background. Is there any way to keep the transparency in export? For example, I placed an image inside a round object, I want just that round image exported with transparent background, but it always opens in anything else with white background. Thanks in advance for answering, if you decide to do so :) ✨💖✨
I don't think so. Pages is always going to think in terms of a digital paper document and put a white background behind it. I don't know what your goal is here, but you can use Keynote to export transparent PNG files created with the same tools (images, shapes, text) as Pages.
Pages is currently at version 11.1. Are you sure you have version 5.6.2? If you have Big Sur, I'm pretty sure Pages 5 won't run on that. Assuming you have the latest version of Pages, this definitely works (it is a relatively new feature) but it is in Document, Section now for Word Processing documents and Format, Page (click on the background to see Page) for Page Layout.
I'll add it to my maybe list. I'm probably not the one to do that as I don't use iBooks Author (at least not professionally) and have never used any template like that. Is there are particular feature in that template that you are unsure how to create in Pages?
@@macmost The Gazette template has a builtin choice for changing the page layout. One page type consists of a smaller text column column on the left side that I use for adding notes and references and the main text page on the right. When I come to the end of the main text page (the right hand side text box) it automatically creates a new identical page with he same two columns. I trust this helps. I watched your video on backgrounds and it is good. I will use it to paste a paper type of photo. You are a great instructor. Well done. This is my first time I came across your videos.
Nice video. I put a background image for a food menu that I email to a client. But, the background picture is not contained in the file :( The client has Pages 9. How do you easily to solve that?
In a Word Processing document, the background applies to all pages in the section. In a Page Layout document change the Page Template background color to have it apply to all pages using that template.
I am really puzzled. I have Pages version 10 (6748) extractly as shown in the video, but when I start new file, I don't see the line containing Format and Document plus all the rest like View, Zoom, Add Page. They're just not there. Where am I going wrong?
@@macmost Thanks, there are so many features in Pages that I find it difficult to get round to trying them. Besides, if I click on something and find I don't like it, it can be hard to back off and get back to where I started.
@@thomaskember4628 That shouldn't be true. Anything you do that actually changes your document you can simply use Edit, Undo. And any menu you change like Hide Toolbar, you can switch back by using the same item, Show Toolbar in this case. You shouldn't feel afraid to explore and experiment. That is exactly how you learn how to use software!
@@macmost Okay, I'll take your advice and experiment with everything (almost everything ) on Pages. But first I'm going to backup all the files I am going to experiment with. Backing up should be one of the first things that is taught in computing. I back up the files I'm currently using on to memory stick (no it's two memory sticks).

You'll need to use an image editing app for that: Pixelmator, Acorn, Affinity, Photoshop, etc.

How does one curve the text around a photo?
What type of file can be used for image fill?
Any standard graphics file should work? jpg, png, etc.
I have Pages 10 but I don't see the "format" or "document" icons. At the top of my page it says "text".

So, this option is gone for 5.6.2, is that correct? The "Background" field is not visible in my version. My OS is MacOS Big Sur 11.5.1.

can you make the background transparent?
In what way? A Pages document can't be transparent (showing what behind it?).

how to apply it to all pages in the document after its done?
In a Word Processing document, the background applies to all pages in the section. In a Page Layout document change the Page Template background color to have it apply to all pages using that template.
why cant we change the coor of the image fill
