- When Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Robert Tapert first came up with the film that would become The Evil Dead, they had no idea that they were about to create one of the most popular horror franchises of all time.
The first movie in the series was shot on a very low budget, but an enthusiastic review from Stephen King quickly made it popular. Audiences soon couldn’t get enough of the campy horror film. Now, the film has had two sequels and a successful TV spinoff, but there might be a lot you still don’t know about the franchise. Let’s take a look at the untold truth of The Evil Dead.

Army of Darkness is easily one of my favourite movies of all time, and the new TV series does not disappoint! You're right...it IS a good time to be an Evil Dead fan!
You know what always bothered me about Army of Darkness? The fact that Ash seemed like he lost about 100 IQ points between the second and third movies and became a selfish jerk. I mean he was never exactly a genius, but in the third one they turned the character into a dim-witted douche. I know it was done for comedic effect, but it's kind of hard to feel sorry for someone who causes most of his own troubles. If you need to remember three words to stop the world from ending, what kind of a moron doesn't write them down?
Yeah. I'm willing to overlook that though. Along with the majority of the rest of the movie! Still...it holds a place close to my heart.

Dutch Dude I actually respected it for what it was .A different take with a much larger budget .I wouldn't add it too my list to watch every Christmas ,yet I enjoyed it enough watching it that one time .

Evil Dead 1 was just a warm up to the brilliance of Evil Dead 2.
In a alternative universe Bruce Campbell is far more known, and ten fold time more respected.

It's probably been mentioned already, but some releases of Army of Darkness had the ending where Ash overslept and awoke in a post-apocalyptic world. The UK VHS which I originally purchased had that ending.
I still have that VHS! That ending is the only one I've ever seen.
I have that version on DVD. I think it's called "Ash vs the Army of Darkness". I think the funny ending from the theatrical version is much better.
That's the ending we got here in México.
I have the trilogy on DVD and it also has that ending!
I had bought 2 versions of the VHS.
1 has the theatrical version and deleted scenes. The other had the directors cut with that ending.

I hate horror movies in general, but I love the Evil Dead trilogy. Army of Darkness is by far one of my favorite movies. "Baby, you got real ugly!" So many quotable lines from Bruce.
Daniel Bell I love horror movies, and I guess day Evil Dead is one of best franchises in the genre.
Nightmare on Elmstreet is pretty cool, too.

You can't really compare them though, they're different animals: Ash vs Evil Dead is an over-the-top laugh-a-minute gorefest while Stranger Things is a tense sci-fi horror series with endearing characters and a lot of restraint.

That movie was rumored to be in the making for YEARS!!!! I always wish it would've happened but I'm much happier with AVED despite it being cancelled prematurely due to our loveable but cheap fanbase refusing to pony up the cash for STARZ despite getting the best reboot. Period.

I can think of few movies other than the first 3 Evil Dead that had such an impact on my childhood. It pretty much molded my sense of humor. I haven't watch Ash vs Evil Dead yet. I will. But this is my favorite trilogy of all of them.
BAD INFO! The Evil Dead was NOT filmed in Michigan - it was filmed in Tennessee. Here's the Wiki on the back-story to that:
"The crew initially attempted to shoot the film in Raimi's hometown of Royal Oak, Michigan, but instead chose Morristown, Tennessee, as Tennessee was the only state that expressed enthusiasm for the project. The crew quickly found a remote cabin located several miles away from any other buildings."

@Robbie H lmao yeah it was so obvious i remember seeing the cellar was huge compared to the cabin even some of the interior shots were obviouly from some place else. A cabin sitting on such a huge cellar would collapse in just a few years due to wood rot. Same thing again in the series when they revisited the cabin all rooms and cellar shots were in studio or random other places. I always found it hilarious and too obvious to miss such details :D

All 4 films and the tv show are amazing...I was very surprised a remake was actually good, I will argu with anyone that I consider the remake is probably the best horror remake in the modern era
Bruce Campbell himself on the Last Fan Standing tour, Halloween Night, told a group of fans not to expect much more of the show seeing how Starz is not making enough back on it due to pirating being so bad of it.
Core Rupt Why aren't they trying to get their show on Netflix or any another streaming service that has the actual audience that their show needs?
Season 3 comes out in Feb. Also you comment about Starz not making their money back makes 0 sense. You don't buy only the show, you buy the whole service. There's no way for Starz to know they're losing money on just this show from pirating.
That is just what I heard from the mouth of Bruce himself, that is where I got my info.
And no, I do not claim to know him on a personal level or have steady contact, he did a meet and greet at a comic book store on Halloween and told the fans there the info and to not expect it much longer. He said Starz paid member viewership of the show was low, but the fan feedback was overwhelmingly positive, which kept them making it. Too many viewers are streaming the show instead of paying the membership to watch. I paid for season 1, then I am also guilty of streaming season 2, which I am changing for season 3 in an effort to try to show support. I am just passing on what he said.

Did anyone ever notice in The Evil Dead. When Ash puts the trash can over his chopped off posessd hand. Then Ash tossed a book on top of the trash can. The name of the book is A Farewell to Arms. By Earnest Hemmingway. That always cracks me up. To this day my brother and I text each other lines from all those movies. We been Bruce Campbell fans since the 80's. Good? Bad? ...I'm the guy with the gun.🤣

when comes to the classic horror movies first thing hits my mind is evil dead thanks to Bruce's badass acting and dialogues.
I saw this at theater in like 1992 maybe I was 13 and loved it. Im a huge fan of Bruce and the Raimi brothers.
Evil Dead was a passion project and it shows in the movies. ED, ED2 and AOD is probably my favorite trilogy of all time.

Absolutely no mention of the English, who as everyone knows recognised the genius of what was then one movie. The film had tanked in America; however, in the United Kingdom ED went straight to number one, it was only after the movie made massive waves in England did US distributors revisit Evil Dead and the rest as they say is history.
