FORGOTTEN 1964 Fairlane! Will it Run and Drive?

- This Ol 1964 Fairlane has had a rough life... no attention, from sitting outside for many years with one owner, sitting outside for years in our ownership, to being pushed into the corner in the storage barn (literally), endured a flood... it's time to get it running and driving again after sitting for many years!
I grew up in Scarberia....Kingston and McCowan area, north of Kingston. The Fairlane deserves to be revived, making one good one out of 2. Looks like the black one should be the starting point though. Be safe and stay well.
"North Carolina weather" indeed! As a NC native, t's finally warming up here as well. I love these old cars. Tons of body work to do, but definitely worth saving. Thanks Mike!
The first 11 seconds was a rough one! Scratch that.. the first 1 minute. My heart just skipped a beat.
Reminds me of my blue 64 Fairlane 2 door I had in the 70's. It was Vey clean, stick six, I swapped in a 1968 302 2V C4 combo, Hurst shifter, a factory dual exhaust system, and 69 Torino GT rally wheels . Loved that car!
Always look forward to a new video Mike. I would def build the Black Fairlane, the body appears to be much better. Could turn out to be a sweet ride.

Strip the white car,it's well used lol. Build the black car as a nice tuff street car. See if there is a car from an old magazine you can reinvent for power tour next year 👍

That industrial strength vinyl is some tough stuff. My vote would be > Don't fight the rust. I've been around for many decades and pretty much given up on that battle. Especially when it's all over the car. Learned my lesson. There's a reason folks call it cancer. Leave a molecule and it'll be back.
MY suggestion would be salvage the engine,transmission and any and all usable interior, glass and any salvageable body panels for the black one which looks in much better shape.
Hate to say it, it's fairly straight, but it's a rust bucket, esp those rear quarter panels.
I sure am glad my '64 Sports Coupe was originally a California car. Ughh....
I don't know how long you've had the "new" channel name Mike, but I like it! There are so many good moments when each brand had a better idea and put it in a car. Keep finding them and showing us! Subscribed many years ago.

Swap it over. Either way, you'll have to build the black one if you decide to keep it, and a black 64 is a great looking car.
Cool Fairlane I had a 63 Country Sedan. I put a 73 LTD 351 in it. Low riding rat. Not to be a Kern lol when you get closer under the hood it sounds so tinny. Good fix

I have a '62 with 2" lowering blocks. I put a scissors jack between the axle and body and push the axle down to remove my rear wheels.
Just remember, you won't get bored playing with a Ford!
If its strut rot get a 4 door P.O.S and transfer it on over. To make more room for a bigger engine just cut out the fender wells and place a Mustang II coilover IFS kit onto it for a mid to big block. There are websites that provide these kits, just provide them the measurements and they'll make it.
the black Fairlane has a decent striaght body I really like it because it has good bones. It will be interesting to see a nice v8 dropped into it. A 351 cleavaland or a 302 or better yet a Godzilla truck motor they are rippers it would probably fit. it has 5 lug suspension. So it can hold up a v8 maybe? A God zilla would be super heavy and you have to put custom suspension lot of work big 9 inch rear end all kinds of head aches.
The posi idea interests me, did ya cypher the door tag? Is axle code a letter or a number?
If it were me, I’d salvage what I could from the white and transfer it to the black. That poor white car could be brought back but it’ll take a LOT of time. Make one good car out of the two and then you and Dad go enjoy it.

Smell that smoke, it will tell you wether it's engine oil or trans fluid being sucked up the vacuum modulator hose.

'64 Sports Coupe. Those quarters are tragic and I guess the rest is about the same. Maybe it's better as a parts car.
My guess is you filmed this during the summer months due to the leaves in the trees. Don't think Canada has green foliage right now lol!

I say swap everything over from the white Fairlane to the black Fairlane.
White one is a parts car, definitely the black one is the one to build
Strip the rusty one to build the black one, some must die that others may live.
I would take the car into my shop and take it apart and cut and butt weld new metal in it and really show that car some love

The white one's body seems to be too far gone I think.
Joining all those who think the white car is not worth doing up. By the time you'll start to repair all the rust you'd have to take it apart anyway to do a good job. Having restored enough rusty cars during my misspent youth I can only say body repair is the most time-consuming task you can do on a vehicle. Unbolting/bolting is a joke in comparison...
The fastest is to swap it and let someone else fix the white one.
Start fixing the white car if you fix the mustang you can weld new floor on the Fairlane
Yes swap everything over to make one decent car that doesn't have all that rust because you know that the rust means big time trouble on anything that is a unibody

That thing is a mess! I love those Sport Coupes, but that thing will require too much to bring all the way back. Parts car at best. 🙄🤨

Switch any decent part onto the black shell. Why chase rust? Just not worth it. My opinion.

I'm in agreement with the majority here. The white one is pretty far gone. I'd strip absolutely everything including the glass and retire the shell to a scrap yard, or find something who might want it.
The parts can be used to bring the black Fairlane back from the grave. 🪦
