- I finally watch a classic in ELLA ENCHANTED (2004) for the FIRST TIME!

Movie Summary:
As a baby, Ella (Anne Hathaway) receives a visit from Lucinda (Vivica A. Fox), her fairy godmother, and is bestowed with a magical talent that requires her to obey anything that she is told to do. This proves to be more of a curse than a blessing, particularly once her mother dies and she is forced to live with the cruel Dame Olga (Joanna Lumley). Eventually, Ella embarks on a journey to find Lucinda and break the spell, accompanied by the handsome Prince Charmont (Hugh Dancy).

Cinder-Ella and Prince Char-ming. Yeah, it's a retelling/alternative version to Cinderella.
And it is based on a YA book, though the book is a lot different. The godmother also gifts the father and step-mother eternal love so that's why all the loathing she had for him for being poor gets transferred to Ella. And Ella and Char in the book become friends when they're younger, at her Mom's funeral and they kind of have a pen pal relationship so they already know each other before they become romantically involved later.
Anne Hathaway was born in 1982 so she would have been 22 years old in this movie. I am in my mid 60's and I love this movie. "Uncle Edgar" was played by Cary Elwes who played Westley in "The Princess Bride".
Fun fact about the actress that plays Hattie ( Lucy Punch) has always liked the step sisters and prefers to play one of them whenever she can. So far shes officially been the step sister in this movie and "Into The Woods"
Four times, actually! And I'm pretty sure she would have wanted to play one of the step-sisters in the Amazon Prime retelling as well 😂

One is in a episode on a tv show called Fairy tales and the other one is in a tv-movie called Cinderella
Lucy Punch, who plays Hattie, keeps getting cast as versions of Cinderella's stepsister. She's great at it. LOL. I recommend people check out the deleted and extended scenes on the DVD of this movie. There's one about Ella trying to find Lucinda's whereabouts in the Hall of Records and an extended ending that gives more closure to the various characters, both of which really should have stayed.

I just noticed the villian is Westley in The Princess Bride.

This movie is 4 years older than Twilight, and this baby looks INFINITELY better than Twilight baby.
I have a theory for why Hattie and the uncle figure out Ella's secret before other people. They are bad people who tend to tell other people what to do, where as her friends most likely wouldn't do that as blatantly. They would also be constantly looking for ways to manipulate people and would see she was easy to control.
Those types of people do exist in real life! I’ve dealt with toxic family members like that and a few narcissistic females… from 2000-2012 😊
The first song "Strange Magic" is a cover of the original, this one sung by Darren Hayes of solo and Savage Garden fame. I love his cover of that song! And this is a movie I adore, it's so entertaining every time!

Love this movie so much! Can’t say it enough. And yes this is a retake on Cinderella. I feel like in the early 2000s there was a lot of remakes/retellings of Cinderella, which I love that bc I always find it interesting what other ways people would tell the story but at the same time stick to the original story we all know and love as much as possible. Everyone in this movie did amazing! The stepsisters definitely got on my last nerves. Love the videos! You do an amazing job!

Let me answer to your questions :
First, Lucinda is supposed to be a fairy godmother but according to Mandy and Ella's mother, she's known for giving the worse gifts.
Second, Ella noticed she forgot her purse next to the place the prince bumped into her (when he tried to escape the girls) and he asked her to stay here when he goes to find it. But, because of the order, Ella was kind of stick to the floor and couldn't move away.
Third,Mandy explained that she accidentelly turn her boyfriend into a book after trying a new spell for cutting his hair.
Fourth, the three " witches " have buttons because Ella gave her flowers with poison ivy 😂
Fifth, about the balls, I don't think they still exist.
I mean, normally there were organised by riches people for meeting potential suitors for their daughters.
Today, I think the closest thing to balls are parties always organised by riches peoples (but I don't know how it works because I'm french)

I realized this movie manifested as my life in the past two decades… I do know a real life “Hattie” more like Chucky. Ella didn’t have boundaries, and there’s lots of narcissistic abuse in this movie. I am Raquelle from Barbie as a human since 2020. ❤
