Very informative episode on Riviersonderend! We used to drive through it several times in the 80's when I was a kid, but I never knew that they started exploring it in the 1600s! That canon's very interesting and looks very similar to one at the war museum here in Hong Kong!

There is so much we don't know about these little towns. It's fabulous getting some of their history

That's so true, we loved our little excursion up to the canon outside town, we found that incredibly fascinating! 💣

What a magnificent church. Imagine getting married in a church like that! Afrikaans is the most beautiful and expressive language in the world. I also love Nederlands as my Oupa came from Deventer and so my maiden name was Van Wageningen. I went English school so you can imagine what those kids made of that! Riviersonderend was always our breakfast stop at the Wimpy on our way to eastern cape or Kleinkaroo. I am talking 20 yrs ago, Sweeties, when such larney places were not yet there

It was a special experience to be able to visit the church and to meet such a helpful lady who was willing to share so much info about the history of the church and congregation. ⛪ Don't you make a mistake, we love the Wimpy too, especially their relish which we'll put on everything. Yum! 🤤 I can only imagine the pronunciations your maiden name must've gotten. The only Van Wageningens we've ever known of, were the radiologists in the Western Cape. 🩻

I agree, it was a privilege to be allowed to walk around in the church. I especially enjoyed the organ and looking over the pews from the pulpit, it gives one a totally different perspective. ⛪

Reg van die vrou om net ons taal te wil praat. Miskien moet jy ook Akrikaans praat, want jy is duidelik Afrikaans. Moeniie skaam wees vir jou taal

Not ashamed of Afrikaans in the slightest, I love the language. I'm an English-speaking person, originally from the Free State and just more comfortable in English. Thanks for watching! 👌🏻

@@DustBugsTravel I love Afrikaans too. Cant believe there is an English person from the Free State! I am English speaking Afrikaner! My family is Afrikaans and Dutch but grew up with English as the main language but also spoke Afrikaans. I majored in Nederlands en Afrikaans at UCT. It was my best subject.
