- Best Ever Kirra ? Must be One of the All Time Swells !! - Your Opinion ? , One Year ago today 4 July 2021 a cold winter swell hit the perfectly formed sandbank and kirra hand 100 meter freight train barrels running down the point , the tubes in this video were about 1/3 of the barrels we saw that day . i know some of the older Local Surfers might be able to share some of the best swell they can remember at Kirra in the comments ... :)

Don't live there or surf there, but it would appear that wind, tide, and swell came together for waves about as good as any surfer anywhere would want. Certainly EPIC. You lucky buggahs!
Lady at 2:56 had one of the best barrels I have ever seen. And I am a very old person who has watched way too many surf vids and clips. Mad respect for making all those sections.

Unless you witnessed every swell in the 70's, 80's, 90's and subsequent you have no right to make such a definitive claim!
During many swells not only were there fuck all surfers, there was virtually no spectators and photographers, especially mid week.

for the little tourists no doubt flying on those carbon spewing jetliners in swarms to see the little surfer monkees
zipping through a tiny section of the original Kirra, f'n gov agencies who want money from tourism, bastards.
It was called Kirra for a reason, because it was literally KIRRA, just roll it as if the r's were L's and you get it..

He's just click-baiting mate with the title n trying to get more engagement in the comments to make some cash.... Decent waves no doubt, BUT early 90's cyclones were easily better again. Double overhead at a minimum in the peak of each cyclone, clean AF, no jetski pussies, paddle out or you don't get out... Cyclone Betsy from 92 - Burleigh, Kirra and The Alley where all cracking. Cyclone Dorian good, but not as perfect.
Good swell and it can still get good but you can’t compare it to the old Kirra before the sand pumping. Old Kirra came out of deeper water, hugged the point,doubled up draining below sea level and had a thicker lip and broke perfect the whole way. Now it breaks out wide because there is too much sand,has sections and is sweepy as. But that’s just my opinion.

@@aarms108 they almost completely destroyed the wave there's even been fund-raising groups called "bring back the old kirra" because of how iconic the old break was. It truly was lucky they didn't ruin it for good

Half the planet will be there tomorrow. For me the pre sand dredging days in the early 90's looked better. Below sea level barrels. This looks like another super bank, which is still insanely good. Awesome to see it breaking!.

Can't beat Kirra in the 90's. Bugs still owning multi-generational respect from everyone; Chappy flying; China being grumpy if he didn't make his 10 second barrel; Bruce Lee tripping out at anyone not local; and not to forget Margo being a dog and burning anyone he could. Kirra drained HARD, and at least there were no ski's burning everyone with tow-ins. Good to see the boys on ski's showing restraint in this vid too.
Awesome day up there with one of the good days but in the 70’s & 80’s I caught & seen sessions like this all the time minus the crowds but old Kirra before superbank was the best right point in the world Kelly Slater designed his wave pool off old Kirra 🤙🏻😎 love ya work & footage keep it up 👍🏻

Yes...1974 around...a month of swell from 3 to 6 foot. A tenth the crowd and better than the superbank setup these days. Including Snapper through Rainbow into Greenmount.
I was living there as they moved the sand pumping pipe. Watched as the sand returned to Kirra. Epic waves.

Kirra point was way better before super bank! No matter how many of us signed petitions the still did it for the beach front apartments? Best memories of snorkelling along Kirra point on a high tide with clear visibility.. when surf was dead flat ! Rocks were submerged held fun for hours

You need Rabbit in there and China as well... WTF happened to him anyways? I was out there surfing with China in 1995, we wagged school and had it to ourselves (pretty much), for hours, only about 4 foot, but still/.. Word got out, Work ended for folk, School's out... Session was pretty much over!

It’s a brilliant swell everything linking up perfect conditions perfect swell but not all time when you have paddled out at Kirra prior to the groin there were days I saw angles 😇😂 or maybe it was the Mushies any way there has been epic days forever

Something the young bros would not have seen or surf was the left handed just a couple of degrees north of the Club house last time I had a few good left hand barrels there some time back probably around the early nineties earlier years sixties and seventies broke regularly n a the higher tide … goofy ❤️ my left handlers.

Yeah this is beautiful. World class waves 100%. Dream waves. But certainly not the best ever. Unbelievably, it did used to be better. Seen and surfed it bigger and better by a couple of feet at least..
At least 100 surfers out.... means if you get one wave per hour you are good. Giving junkies a surf fix, this is how kirra works.
