    I'm actually pretty sure that Michael Wincott's character was dying anyway. The movie never outright tells us this, but there are several points when it can be inferred (pill bottles in his office, coughing, Angel giving him a weird look). Honestly, I think that it's one of the parts like cutting away from Jupe about to explain his motivations to his wife where Peele just cut out half the exposition in post.

      To me, that’s Jordan trusting the intelligence of his audience. He knows we’re gonna be combing the details, so he doesn’t need anything more than a pill bottle and a look from Angel to convey what another writer/director might have put a direct line and close-up shot in for.

    They showed the Gordy's home incident as an explanation for Jean Jackets behaviour. Just as the several reminders about not to make loud noises and startle the horses. We know that what seemed to set off Gordy was the loud noises of the balloon pops, kind of like when the horse kicks on the set. Also we get the explanation from OJ about territory predatory animals which is told so we understand both Gordy and Jean Jackets behaviour. Gordy didn't attack Jupe because of the table cloth covering his eyes, thats why we got a POV shot of it. He wasn't looking Gordy in the eyes because Gordy couldn't see his eyes and it's the same with his first meeting with Jean Jacket when he explains how dark it was and he couldn't see, he gets eaten because he is looking up.

    I liked a lot of things about NOPE but one of the most interesting things I liked was that the characters were not goofballs or dummies continuing the trope, cliche of being clueless. They're pretty intelligent and figured things out. Even the TMZ guy was smart to the point, he knew something was strange out there, however his greed got the best of him. I don't plan on seeing a blonde woman running through the forest, tripping on a rock just to push the story forward in Peele's films. lol

If there wasn't I doubt you would have felt the need to point out you are black. It was the same with Black Panther, if you were black and disliked it people flipped there shit. If you were white and didn't like it you were just called racist lol.
      Yeah man I agree 100%, Nope is definitely my favourite movie of his so far. Us had some cool scenes, but the story just wasn't for me. Get out I thought was great, very inventive creatively original story and concept. I liked that he was able to tell that specific story tackling such a complex and nuanced issue without it coming across as a all white people are evil message that we get a lot these days from extremists. I say that as a white person lol.
      But Nope was just better than I imagined it would be, and I imagined it would be good. I love movies about aliens and UFO so that alone had me intrigued, I love a good horror movie and the trailer definitely gave off those vibes and the film absolutely delivered on it. Like a horror thriller in the vein of Alien. I liked that it wss also absolutely hilarious at times in a way that still felt very natural to the heavier tone.

A unique presence with themes & ideas intrinsically intertwining with the conceit, plot & events in the film. I saw this movie with a crowd of people who hated it. Being being the only one who liked it ( loved it actually), explained why I enjoyed it so much. I understand for a movie billed as a summer blockbuster that thematic depth isn't always popular but I did find it interesting the amount of people who missed the commentary all together. The commentary in Get Out is impossible to miss, and arguably US is a little ham fisted as well towards the end. I really think this film succeeds by avoiding exposition dumps and connecting the strings for the audience. That being said, some people I was with said they got the thematic point but still didn't enjoy it. I think original blockbusters are in short supply these days and further original blockbusters that aren't overtly trying to be intellectual ( Most Nolan Films) are even more rare. I loved this movie and thought it was an absolute success.

    What I notice is many a people do get a grasp of the movie but miss the stories going on. At the least, there are 4 stories being woven together- Jupes, OJ and Crew, Jean Jacket and the horses
    The chapters are named after the horses and JJ
    We witness how Lucky learns what to do to stay alive and helps OJ survive by him knowing how OJ works
    Hek, we even get told that this all happened by Old Trigger which might have been the first interaction JJ had with feeding on things in the valley
    The best scenes for me were the blood raining down on the house scene as that had so many Easter eggs in it. The green and orange seats being freed from JJ, the two keys that went into the arm rests of the house showing that Emerald and OJ were the new owners after their dad was taken out by the Money Shot
    Even the EXIT sign pointing up that indicates those in showbiz will leave via JJ while those behind the scene will be left behind
    There are others such as the this being a refresher look at the Wizard of Oz
    But imma stop as there is so much more
    Keep being entertained and speaking on it
    Cheers

    I loved this video. It made me appreciate a great film even more.
    Assorted thoughts:
    1. Emerald's complete dismissal of the TMZ reporter was a subtle moment of character growth, given how fame hungry she was at the beginning of the film
    2. Jordan Peele has recently taken over the running of The Twilight Zone - a show that has in its history the deaths of three cast members (including children) due to revolting negligence on part of the director and producers. No idea if that was something Peele thought of in the making of Nope, but I thought it was interesting context.
    3. It's a shame that 'the only way to protect yourself from Cthulu esque monsters is through some form of sensory deprivation' has been such a big horror trope in the last decade (eg Bird Box, A Quiet Place), otherwise the premise would've felt fresher. Not that it matters, as so much else feels really fresh, eg the characters and setting.

    I don't know WHY there is this persistent idea from many "critics" that Gordy killed ALL the cast and crew of the sitcom; there is NOTHING to suggest that that occurred. Just because someone who's assaulted is unconscious doesn't mean they're dead. Mary Jo was at the very epicenter of the attack and the primary target of Gordy's rage, and she made it out alive (albeit horrible injured).
    There is actually a fictional interview online where Peele, playing himself as a reporter for a tabloid magazine, covered the attack aftermath and describes what he learned happened. Just Google it, since any links placed in comments are removed by TH-cam.

    This movie and Bubble (an anime movie about kids doing parkour in post apocalyptic Tokyo) have something in common that makes me love them a lot, which is what you said earlier in the video, ambiguity. In both movies, we never know what the hell the monster is or where it was from simply because both of them are out of our world. It was something that humans never understand and it was also because of the main plot of both movies. In NOPE, all they care about is to take a video or a picture of the alien so they can get famous. In Bubble, all they care about is doing parkour through the post apocalyptic Tokyo, and majority of them are just teenagers with only one scientist that even still doesn't understand what happened to the city because it was something that never happened before. While I do like when the protagonist learns more about the big mystery and obviously in some story they have to otherwise it won't work, I feel like if the movie is about beings like this not everything should be explained. Both movies are realistic in a way that there is no way a human will understand anything like that. It was just out of our world. Another example of this but in the form of videogames are Little Nightmares 1&2. It was such a bizarre, terrifying yet beautiful game. Everything about the world of LN feels like something out of, well, nightmare. And I love it that we don't know everything about that world. Hell, we only know like 0.01% of it and that's ok. Because the LN games revolve around the idea of something that is out of our world, a nightmare. I really wish we get more of these types of story because it is just so fascinating and fun

    • @MiggetyMattR
      @MiggetyMattR ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a "bad miracle", as OJ would describe it. It's such a statistically impossible thing to happen, yet because it DID happen, Jupe kept his eyes off of Gordy's rampage (and by extension, Gordy), and he ended up surviving the event. He looks back on that shoe as a sign from some higher power meaning that he was special and that he had a connection with the chimp, which is why he believes he has a special connection with the "aliens". He didn't learn from the mistakes of the people exploiting him, and in turn he falls down the same path. (Being devoured by an animal you're exploiting for entertainment)

    Why do we call the alien "Jean jacket"?

    • @betterlatethannever4536
      @betterlatethannever4536 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was the name of the horse Emerald was "supposed" to train, but her dad changed his mind and gave Jean Jacket to OJ, then helped OJ train him and eventually took OJ to the movie as his assistant/successor.
      OJ calls the alien Jean Jacket to acknowledge that this time, it really is Emerald's shot at fame.

    I don’t watch horror movies… the last ones I watched (if you can call them horror) were Event Horizon & 28 Days Later… when they came out…the visuals of these movies still haunt me (and yes there were moments I closed my eyes); when it comes to horror, my imagination wakes me at night. I think it all started from seeing The Swarm as a kid and suffering nightmares for years (although weirdly never scared of bees or wasps in real life tho). So after that intro, what I wanted to say was, I feel like I’m missing out, you really sell this movie to me, maybe I should rethink my outright horror avoidance and go see this film? You sold it THAT well to me, I’m really tempted. Great to see another video about you really enjoying a film but I’m ngl I would love to see a video on your thoughts about She Hulk (which I can’t envisage you being as positive about)!

    I really wanted to love this movie. It's visually beautiful and very creative but I really struggled to get the characters motivation especially after the monster (SPOILER) Murders/eats 40 odd people. It to me just made our main characters seem very selfish in their pursuit to capture the creature on film.
    Maybe it's just me but that took me out of the movie.
    Don't regret seeing it as I thought about it for days afterwards.

    • @23rumbble
      @23rumbble ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thats because jupe was feeding the alien hoses and people the whole time and as far as the main characters motive, its only because they was not making enough money to keep the ranch, the motives was to get a good shot of the alien so they can sell the footage, but it became more than that as the story went on

    • @MiniNadez25
      @MiniNadez25 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      In its core, I really see it as a portrayal of how far people will go for fame and money. All of the characters in the movie, in one way or another, are all trying to get fame or recognition, Whether it’s trying to get proof of the thing existing or putting on shows to use the ufo as entertainment. The ending of the movie further developed this theme as they weren’t trying to kill it but actually get a picture of it from the well, although they ended up killing it on accident. The pro photographer got himself killed trying to get the money shot of the alien. It just portrays how far people will go for recognition, but does it in a creative way including sci-fi and horror.

    • @SteveLouisArnoldHR
      @SteveLouisArnoldHR ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MiniNadez25 I understand the characters motivation it's more that I found it a very selfish pursuit. Which is a fine character motivation. But it didn't resonate with me because it made the characters suddenly very unlikeable and selfish. Again not a problem with the story Jordan decided to tell. It just took me out of it and made it not my cup of tea.
      But still glad I saw it.

  • @arisanchez112
    @arisanchez112 ปีที่แล้ว

    15:28 this comparison truly pains me-shyamalan doesn’t deserve mention beside a visionary like peele. i totally get what you’re saying about a strong foundational sci-fi concept, but peele’s flawless execution is more on the level of a director like kubrick. unlike with shyamalan’s work, nothing in peele’s oeuvre is random, careless, or underdeveloped, no line is badly written and left sticking out of the texture of the narrative like glass in the sand-everything is intentional and ideas/moments are carefully placed to produce a specific effect. peele doesn’t leave things unfinished with a shrug and a half-hearted attempt to disguise it as “artistic ambiguity”-his symbolism is purposefully multi-faceted for multiple interpretations and any open-ended portion of the narrative or theme is as meticulously placed as doorways in an architect’s dream home.
