Nice to see all of you in this profound time. Zakir has been a huge part of my life as well. I met him a few times and witnessed his mastery many, many times. His rhythm is so deep. The depth of his left hand filled a room, and then his right hand danced away in ecstasy for us all. I wish I could see Shakti, but I will listen with new energy and focus now. Bless you all. This beloved man blessed the earth and now moves on to the next concert in the stars. All gratitude 🙏 Zakir bhai 🕉
it gives me immense pride when my fellow tamilians talking about the maestro who knew him not through the media or hear say but they have seen him and been with and learnt from him in real flesh and blood and i can see their pain and anguish and emotions overflowing uncontrollable, yes as all these people said it is going to take a while before its sinks in and they can come to terms with reality and a life without him which was a beacon of light guiding them in their association with that genius, Unfortunately i have not met him or seen him live performing but have heard a lot from some renowned musicians a parnter of MS Viswanathan the legendary music director of tamil films uncle jo whom we used to call his name was joseph-krishna and i used to go and listen to his many team players who played different instruments practicing for hours whom 2 brothers who played guitar lived just diagnoally opposite to my house in royapettah chennai and uncle Jo's 3 sons and his more famous drummer Tony and many more from where i might have learned a bit here and there to understand the vastness and versatility and impact of music which brings in one''s life. Thank you guys for sharing your experiences. Vanakkam nanbargale.
I saw shakti live in copenhagen summer 1976,and I went to india in october that same year ,,hellbent on learning to play this magnificent instrument,,iv'e seen Zakir Hussein numerous times live in india,,one time in dharamsala Mcleoud ganj when he and Shiv kumar Sharma gave a free consert for Dalai lama,,thats how humble they were ,,unfourtunally both of them have left us. I have recordings of Zakir bai live concerts which I enjoy a lot,, My tabla teacher late sri Shuni lal is from the same village in punjab as his father ustad Alla Racha Khan Zakir was the most talent tabla player in our time when it comes to sangeet ,the art of lifting a rag ,,sangaat aswell but his sangeet skills are unparalleled! I say are not was because his music will never die❤
