Legends of Chutney Pt 4 - Featuring - 'D Rani' Rasika Dindial

Southex, producers of CSM, licensed WINTV in 2013 as part of a contract to produce a series of shows showcasing the 'Legends of Chutney'. The 'Legends of Chutney' was going to be a highlight of the annual competition in 2013, and these 'Living Legends' at the time, were being recognized for their contribution at the annual competition. The shows, hosted by Shirvani Sookhai delve into the backgrounds of each artiste and highlights the contribution that they have made to the development of the Indo-Caribbean musical art forms, especially as they are related to Trinidad & Tobago. They are historical in nature and gives a good perspective of the early days of Indo-Caribbean culture in Trinidad & Tobago.

Although I enjoy some of the new “chutney/soca chutney“ with English words, I don’t consider them chutney I just call them “ remakes” because most of them are local versions of Indian film songs

She is a treasure. Remember when every Indian wedding had this type of singing for the Hardi night and then Sunday for the Lawa. She is keeping this genre alive and we are enriched for being witness to her talent.

Shivanee, thank you for doing this interview. The Rani is a special being, no one can walk in her path. All her songs has meaning even the comical ones. She is keeping this culture alive and it's so sad that that the people of TnT do not appreciate it. The varied competitions she has entered I will out rightly say it, the Rani was cheated. I will like to ask the powers that be to pay tribute to her and give that so deserve recognition. Keep up the great work.
